Problematic Exo

I love Exo. Don't get me wrong.

However, I won't be watching this comeback.

The dreads on Kai, no matter who chose it, are unacceptable. I keep saying that you shouldn't blame him and that makes me wonder. Who are you to blame? The culture in which multiple parts get stolen by artists? The culture in which is "trashy" or "ghetto" when someone who is African American wears it, but is suddenly "trendy" and "cool" when someone with a paler skin tone does? His dreads are a problem. Simple as that.

However he isn't the only one in the group who has ruined this comeback for me. Mr. Byun Baekhyun. He has made some comments in the past that are racist, such as saying Kyungsoo smelled/looked burnt when he got tan. Or having Jongin's name in his phone as "Blackie." Or the fact that he wore a white power shirt.

I mean idk, somehow that mullet is awfully fitting for him.

Pretty sure many exo stans are hypocrites just because exo are their "kings" it's irritating because they turn a blind eye to so many things, specially cultural appropriation which isn't the same as cultural appreciation, something many need to understand. And it's the same things with other groups. Sk has different beliefs than US (where I'm from) so a part of me understand their ignorance but at the same time they need to catch up.

If they gave Jackson, bts and other guys for it (which they deserved if I'm being honest) then exo shouldn't be left behind. And it's okay to apologize and UNDERSTAND why it's wrong and change your ways.

This isn't just about Kai's hair that's happened more than once but the comments some of the members have made throughout the years. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Baekhyun say something along the lines of Kyungsoo getting tan and smelling burnt? Or how they joke about Kai/Tao's skin on variety shows as well as showtime? This may be in the past but it shouldn't be forgotten.

& the one thing I see so much (twitter) is how exo stans will just say "It's just hair" "I'm a colored person and don't find this offensive so people need to stop being so sensitive" and many more which just make me shake my head. People have a right to be offended. I'm a poc and get offended when people appropriate Latin holidays and the stereotypes and yet bash it.

All I'm saying is that it's okay to make mistakes, we all make them. We just need to understand and learn from it. Sadly, exo has made some throughout the years and the fact that there's more fans justifying what they did is sad.

I no longer listen to them so I will obviously not follow their comeback just because, but, kudos to their success and etc.. & hopefully both the guys and the company understand why there's some backlash and learn from it (sooner or later they'll have to)
