PERSONALITY :

Baekhyun knows he's under constant surveillance. As the crown prince of Norta, it's in his job description. The people look to him to lead but the people also look to him to spot his weaknesses and shortcomings so they can attack and drag him down from his high pedestal. That's why he is harsh and merciless, to make examples of other people and to show that he's strong enough to become their ruler. He's determined in this way, to keep his social standing, to keep the respect - though it might be the fear - of his subjects - and inner court - constant. He's been doubted all his life, he's not a particularly brawny man - though he's not completely useless in a fight either - he utilises what others around him fail to have; a brain. Though not the textbook definition of "a lover not a fighter," that's as close as you can get to describing Baekhyun. He knows his way around politics, around social etiquettes and can charm the pants off anyone he pleases, keep him in their favour. He's not king yet, such things are necessary to buy himself allies and loyal supporters. But of course, you can't expect Baekhyun to be handing out cookies and cupcakes with "vote Baekhyun for king" frosted on the top. Being nice and appeasing those he wants on his side isn't the only way to get what he wants. He finds the easiest and most successful way of getting what he wants - for Silvers are forever power hungry bastards no matter how hard he tries to be nice to them, they bring it upon themselves, really - is to be manipulative and conniving. A little whispering into brains here and there, ransacking information from their memories, bringing to notice people's darkest thoughts and fears and desires; it all works a treat. He keeps his court in order by observing his subjects, watching their every move, reading their every thought and using it against them.

"I heard your daughter is pregnant with a bastard baby - quite the scandal isn't it? I suggest you sign these papers now if you don't want word getting out about it." 

Despite Baekhyun's "utter brilliance," there will always be people who want to tear him down, who are after his crown, who pick and pull at him in hopes of him coming undone like a thread. He doesn't. He won't ever. Not in the public eye at least. To these people, he is nothing but merciless. He makes examples of them, unleashes his wrath on them, turns them inside out with his powers and then leaves them to rot. No one dares go against him for fear of receiving the same treatment. It's how he keeps his people in check. "It's the only way to rule," his mother had told him once. He finds it's one of the most reliable things she's ever taught him. 

Though you may not be able to tell from first glance, Baekhyun is extremely loyal. To those people he holds feelings and affections for, he would burn down the palace to protect them. Unfortunately, however, he is not good at expressing his feelings and affections for people, for fear of those feelings then being used against him. He no longer knows how to show emotions after keeping his own locked away for so long. The people he considers precious to him or as friends or allies barely ever know what he thinks of them. But he prefers it that way. His enemies would be quick in using those people against him so he doesn't show outward displays of affection to anyone at all. However, if any harm were to befall upon the people he loves, be prepared to see him bring down the heavens in grief and anger. In a world where nothing matters besides "strength" and "power," such feelings would be seen as a weakness to be used against him, which is why he keeps them tucked away.

Strengths: He'd say everything. He'd be right. 

Weaknesses: He'd say nothing. But his loved ones are his weaknesses, the only problem is the world does not know who he holds dear. 

BACKGROUND :

Baekhyun has only ever had his mother. His father, the king, died early on in his life. There have been rumours that his own mother had pushed his father towards his death and he can't say he doesn't believe the rumours, but nonetheless she is his mother so he really couldn't care less about what kind of a monster she is. She has always loved him, he was her only joy in the palace where she could love nothing else, however, this turned into coddling. His mother was also a cruel woman, ruthless, evil in many ways. She turned inside out those who opposed her son, spoke for him in court and was even prepared to pick the winner of Queenstriel all by herself ("the Kang girl will eat you up. Go for the Animos girl. She'll be easy for both of us to control.") and this made him seem like a mother's boy. A weakling. Though at the same time, she also made him strong. She whispered to him words of hatreds about the reds, told him how a king needs to rule with an iron fist, told him that intelligence is just as lethal as physical power. She made him into who he is today so he cannot resent her. In fact, he loves her. But in the public eye, he has shunned her. He has taken a stand against her for her coddling made him want to live on his own, made him determined to win over his country and keep it in check all by himself. Though it is true he wants to be independent from his mother and cast out the rumours that she still holds his leash, his coldness towards her is also an act, he pretended to outcast her and hate her to protect her from being used against him later in life. "To look powerful is to be powerful," she'd once told him. Taking those words to heart, he became the man who was his mother's son and yet so much more; more merciless, more cruel, more evil. 

She'd tell him she's proud of him if they ever spoke anymore.

She's content with how he's acting in court and looks over from far away. A sweet relationship it would be if they were not both such monsters.

▸ If someone were to be saying this to him, he'd say, "I wouldn't blame you."  

▸ If he were to be saying this to someone else, it would be on their deathbed so that they'd never be able to remember his loss of pride as he burnt Norta to the ground. If someone is truly worthy of his love then they'd be worth everything to him, they'd own every inch of his shrunken, blackened heart.
