What's with all the hate nowadays? The kpop community is becoming ill:( #EXP #letsspreadlove #noracism !

First of all, I have to admit that the thought of non-Asian K-pop idols always sounded weird to me (just like non-asian kpop fans talking about wanting to audition lol) but I would give them a listen and then decide whether I like it or not (otherwise I would never ever hate on someone in public without knowing them personally and just keep my thoughts to myself or rant with friends but never I would spread hate comments or something which they could end up seeing and be hurt). As a friend on here already said, Kpop is not about being Korean or even Asian at all, it is about the language.

I gave the guys of Exp a listen when stumbling over an mnet performance clip on instagram and the boys are not really attractive to me but who cares, I was surprised about their good pronunciation and they have amazing voices! Even Suju (some members were there as EXP performed SuJu's U - gosh I love this song, good old kpop days ..) started to kinda fanboy about their performance! as well as the audience!

Now, I already had quite a few discussion with haters and saw many hate comments and post (why can't you people just keep it to yourself if you don't like them?) and I can't relate to what they say ... One girl even said Asians were not welcome in the 'white' music industry and so they built their own? What about Asians going solo in America, what about K-idols working together with 'white' or also 'black' people? An unnie of mine even told me that Jay Park first came out in the US with mixtapes and started his career there which I didn't know about before.

They are non-Asians

A friend on here already posted a blog about this matter on here. Kpop is not about being Asian, not even about being Korean at all (all those Thai and Chinese idols and there will even be a Filipina idol next!) it is about the language! My Unnie also told me the boys of EXP learned Korean, so they seem to be able to read and speak it, hence also the pretty good pronunciation. Don't have Chinese trainees like Tao or Lay or other non Korean idols have suffered enough by bullying during trainee days? Everyone of us hates this fact that they have been bullied because of not being Korean or Kai who has been bullied a lot because of his skin tone, yet those fans are doing exactly the same with these boys? (I think it's the same issue with Jayden Smith) That's kinda hypocritical don't you think?

Their name sounds too much like EXO

Ever thought that it could be an abbreviation for something or been made out of fun? I heard from my unnie that it started as a uni project. Did Exo buy this name? You know that Exo also has different meanings depending on the field? Exo doesn't own that name and for example, in chemistry, Exo is an abb and describes a chemical reaction which produces heat (I could be wrong, I don't know the exact definition anymore, chemistry was 3 years back lol).

They haven't gone through trainee period and suffered like all the other idols

Do people have to suffer and sleep on the floor with many other trainees or hide in the bathroom to eat cake in order to become a K-pop idol or singer? This is an Asian mentality and the fault of the companies themselves as well the delusional idol types in Korea. These people knew what they were getting into and still chose this period of their life voluntarily. I feel sorry for them, yes, but it's what they chose to become a K-pop idol. Also these boys are kpop singers not idols. The definition of an idol is different, they are trained in many different fields, hence why they have this trainee period before debut. These boys are just singing in Korean, nothing else. Maybe the life for trainees will also start to become better in the future. In my opinion, trainees are way too young nowadays anyway. They need to be allowed to be kids first (okay, then again many children in their teens already read and watch pronographic materialal or pretend to be adults ..), they need to know what this all means, they need to know what life costs (of course the companies can't pump hilarious amounts of money into them if they don't know will these kids really debut and be successful)..

I never thought people could be so racist (not only Asians but 'white' people themselves). Racism is wrong in any kind of place. You dislike them because of the things above and didn't even gave them a listen? Keep it to yourself and don't spread ill thoughts and fire among the community. You gave them a try and still dislike them? Okay, that's fine, at least you have tried, yay! Among you guys who are willing to give them a chance, please spread the word and some love for the boys. They still need to learn a couple of things in terms of performance to keep up with kpop idols but they are really good already.

Or just spread the #noracism tag because that's what people are being right now, racist.

Personally, I will follow them a bit on their future path and see what else they will do:) Let's see what Jayden will do:3

l never bother check them out despite all the hoopla about them from kpop fans...mostly...negative hoopla...but seeing this post...n that they sing U...made me quickly went to check the perf...the argument abt them not suffering the way kpop idols do is the silliest of all...though the other things come close too. i mean...what's the point of suffering training for years and then come out and still sound bad? not saying all...but i find myself scratching my head when fans boast about oppar/unnir trained for how many years when the end product don't even sound bragging worthy...n then they'll bring up difficult choreo or whatever else excuse they can...and like who cares if they're after all named exp as parody of exo...it's not like they're named exo2...that'd at least be worth a debate...but this....puh....when popular groups use name already in use by nonmainstream/less popular ones...nobody said anything or even defend the more popular group...i'm just....eh...bleh....don't even start with the race thing bcuz idk why when Japanese, Chinese, Thai, etc member....nobody said nothing....when it's not Asiapop...it's Kpop....yet they could somehow justify it, but when it's not Asian....big hoopla....i'm Asian too btw, but the arguments are often too silly for my tolerance. anyway, the perf was actually good...i'm anticipating them. maybe the fact that they got much hate will make me even more interested now...thanks to this post, now i have a new one to look forward to.

I didn't really know much about them until an unnie of mine sent me this long rant about it but I didn't look into them. I finally saw them when I watched EXP's performance of SuJu's U and I was actually impressed. I am very curious as to how they'll do in the future. To me, I feel like the entire music industry, not just Kpop and the American industry, should be diverse with different people from different cultures. Music is listened to by everyone and if there's no rascism in the music, then it may begin to spread into everday life. Music can be used to learn about different cultures so if we allow diversity, then there's a better chance that people will becoming more open minded and understanding.

Well said. Personally I have never seen an Asian artist break into the Western pop scene, but that's not saying I wouldn't LOVE to. So these guys, well, it's all about the music for me and they're not to my taste but I do hope the gate on them stops. Otherwise it's just THE SAME THING WESTERN MUSIC DOES TO ASIANS by not giving them a chance and bullying them. We're Kpop fans. Korean language pop music. WE ARE BETTER THAN WESTERN MUSIC FANS. PROVE IT

Kpop is Korean pop so technically when Chinese , Thai , Taiwanese and Japanese people debut in a kpop group, it is no longer "korean only music". A major risen of rise of k-pop is not because of their music but because of the "yellow fever" or as I prefer to call it "Asian-". Exp gets hate for being "white" and are often labelled as "koreaboos" but then following that logic the Chinese,Japanese or Thai k-pop idols can also be called "koreaboos" as at the end of the day they are non-koreans. And even in the "Kpop is asian" trend the arabs, browns(India,Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and etc) and even a huge population of Russians are ignored. You can check the map of Asia to get what I mean. End of the day a lot of people have "yellow fever" or a attraction towards mongoloid race. That is why non-korean but being in "mongoloid race" receives love but being a "white" gets have.
As for their talent, they sing and pronounce better than me.........
Well their name is something else but who cares. The entire exp is just a project

Exp is seriously what exo autocorrect to for me lol
But as an Asian, it really bothers me when white ppl want to be kpop idols. I'm sure there are some who aren't like this, but enough are like the following to make me uncomfortable:
- koreaboos (enough said)
- weaboos/chinaboos who don't know the the difference
- want to get into the new trend

And as for the "don't have any Asian artists in white music industry" thing, that does play a part in why I like kpop and cpop. Cpop is the only reason why I decided to accept my identity and culture...I really don't want white ppl to get into it...

So basically, I agree that there should be less hate hut I also have to politely disagree lol
