Authors Q&A

So a lot of fanfic writers have been doing this lately and since I'm bored out of my wits and a fan of procrastinating, I'm joining in ^^ [questions are copied from sunflowerpots]

Author Questions:

Is there anything you regret writing?
There are some parts of stories I regret writing as they tend to mess up the plotline sometimes and once posted I can't change it anymore, but generally, as a story I don't think I regret writing anything so far.

Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Out of all the fics I've written so far, posted and yet to be posted, I think I like Marooned the best. Why? Because I spent a lot of time doing research about it and because I just think the idea behind it isn't that common in fanfics. It was just interesting and fun for me to write it.

What's your most popular fanfiction?
That would be Love Me Right. Which is honestly quite a shocker because I wrote the epilogue the day we got the first football-themes Love Me Right teasers and it just blew up.

How do you come up with your fanfiction titles?
That's honestly something I have trouble doing - for Love Me Right I just took the title song's name. For Marooned, I really liked the sound of the word when I watched Pirates Of the Caribbean so I wanted to write a fic named "Marooned". You can basically say the entire fic is based on the word. As for the sequel, Mutinous, I was just looking for another word that would start with the letter M and would have a similar theme.

Titles, I just sometimes pick them randomly and sometimes I might end up not liking them all that much but as I continue writing the fics I just get used to them I guess (example, Horizon, like what did the word Horizon have anything to do with the fic????)

What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
As much as I at choosing titles, I feel like summaries are the death of me - I don't think I've written a decent summery up until now, mostly because I end to write chaptered fics and because I honestly don't know sometimes what will happen in the fic so I just end up winging it.

If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Hm, I feel like people would draw art for Love Me Right because it is by far my most popular fanfic. KaiSoo in football attire I guess.

Or maybe Marooned? Jongin dressed as a pirate, Kyungsoo as an officer from the Navy and Jongdae lying on the ground surrounded by empty alcohol bottles? I could imagine haha

Do you have a beta reader? Why/why not?
I don't have a beta reader. A friend of mine used to proofread some of my fics but she is busy now with life, so no, I don't have a beta reader.

And honestly, I am always so pumped to share a fic update right after I've written it so I oftentimes do not proofread the stuff I post. I feel like having to wait for a beta-reader to read after me would make me go crazy hah

What inspires you the most?
Food? Movies? Music?

There are a lot of stuff honestly, I might be just walking down the street, I might see some shop and think damn man, wouldn't it be cool if I wrote a scene in a fic at a shop like this? Just random stuff, everywhere.

What's the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Honestly, every comment I get on my fics I appreciate deeply. I have gotten tons of nice comments but it would be a hassle to go through all the comment pages to look for them, so I just took out some comments from the first comment pages of my fics. Honestly, I appreciate every singe comment and every positive word has me grinning like a fool at home while scroling through them :')

Your writing is really nice and fluid, it's so pleasant to read - andyema (Love Me Right)

This story was written so beautiful and realistic way that it made me feel like I was there seeing and experiencing it all with them. - WaffleHyung (Love Me Right)

Your stories are quality. Thank you. Sincerely. - ReadTheGems (Horizon)

Really, it's so difficult to say something about autor skills and writing when all you feel while reading is Feelings. - Hungryoni (Brightest Star)

The most phenomenal story ever. Truly perfect. - Animeliebe19 (Marooned)

(Me after reading all that all over again...)

Once again, there are many more comments I'd like to share in here, but I feel like this is the general thing that makes me happy - people genuinely enjoying my stories. That's what matters to me the most. Oh, and when people say they're re-reading a story of mine it makes me feel truly happy because !!! they enjoyed it enough to read a second time it's truly amazing ;-;

Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
Music sometimes confuses me while I'm writing, like I'd get carried away and jsut end up jamming to the songs. So if I'm listening to anything it would be instrumental music with no lyrics to distract me.

For example, while writing Marooned/Mutinous I'd play the full soundtrack of all Pirates of the Caribbean movies or the OST of Fairy Tail (ex-weeb, bear with me).

Or sometimes I'd just listen to song instrumentals, just so that there's some sound playing in the background.

Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
I tend to write mostly multi-chapter fics, trying to mostly keep it at 15-20 chapters. I feel like I can't really write oneshots because I write a  lot of descriptions and stuff and that would make a oneshot way too long.

What’s the word count on your longest fic?
Unfortunately, I never really kept track of word counts, because I don't save the chapters I post on my computer. But my longest fics are Marooned and Love Me Right, each with 23 chapters. And usually I write updates with 4000-5000 words so that would mean an averege of 100k+ words. Wow...

Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I don't really write drabbles, no :/ As I said, I tend to be very descriptive and that's a no-no for drabbles.

What's your favorite genre to write?
Hm...I feel like angst? I feel like I just know how to write stuff so that they sound angsty. However, i do enjoy writing other genres too. I like comedy stuff too, and fantasy.

First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
Third person, because I like to think of the characters in a story I write just as characters. They're their own entities and I feel like writing in third person helps me keep things seperated. (I mean, as in characteristics of the people involved in a fic, their personalities, backgrounds, hobbies etc)

Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
Hm, I prefer writing with canon characters. I have a few OCs introduced in some of my stories but they don't have any major roles.

What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Pain and suffering and maybe igniting some feels. Or just plottwists.

I don't really feel like I should be the one answering that question, I feel like that's something the people who read my stories should say.

What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
I don't really struggle with much things. Once I feel like writing I just sit down and write and it goes smoothly. The thing I struggle with is actually sitting down to write. I procrastinate so much wow.

Fanfiction Questions

Oh, boy I'm exposed. i mostly read things in the evenings before I go to sleep so I tend to stick to shorter stuff. But some of the ongoing fics I am currently following are:

Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
Almost everything in the fandom inspires me, honestly.

What ship do you feel needs more attention?

To be fair, I'm not really much of a shipper

What is your all time favourite fanfic?

All time favourite? There are so many - Anterograde Tomorrow, Arbitrage, The Faults in Byun Baekhyun, The 27th of October, Revolution...

If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

It depends what type of story they'd want to read. I don't usually really like recommending my own stories, it makes me feel really insolent, but lesgo

If they're in for just a light read - Love Me Right - it is just an easygoing story, it plays like a movie in my head sometimes haha

If they're looking for something unusual - Marooned and then Mutinous - if you like pirates and adventures and fantasy then this is the way to go~

If they want to read angst - Horizon - wanna cry? cause of all the typos? then this is the story for you (also you might cry cause of the angst but i personally cry at the typos I never got to fixing)

Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
Yes! If I liked the fanfic, I make sure to leave a comment because I know myself how great it feels to get that notification for a new story comment and how amazing it is to know someone out there really does appreciate what you're doing.

Do you care if people comment your writing? Why/why not?

I do care, I appreciate it a lot when people take the time to leave a comment and tell me what they liked about an update, or what they disliked. Even if it is just a word, I appreciate knowing that they have something to say about it. Be it positive or negative.

How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
Once upon a time, i was a huge weeaboo and there wasn't an anime I hadn't seen. I read my first fanfic ever when i was like 12, and it was a Naruto fanfic on fanfiction.net

That's also when I started writing fanfictions, Naruto fanfics haha, before I discovered all the joys of kpop.

Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Love: I love how in the world of fanfiction people aren't prejudiced against same- relationships. I feel like if there's one thing people can learn from fangirls it is to be more open minded. About anything, really. That's the beauty of fanfics - you can find anything out here, every genre, every setting, every pairing, every kink.

And if you can't find it then you can write it yourself. There are no limits.

Hate: This isn't something about fanfics i hate, per se, but I don't like it when I'm in the middle of reading something I enjoy and then remembering I have to leave for university/work/shopping or something like that. Thus, I am only limited to reading fanfics in the evening.

That, or there are certain things I avoid reading. Once again, it's not hate but there are just themes I dislike and avoid reading if I see them. Everybody's allowed to like different stuff I guess so there's that. There are audiences for everything and you can't possibly be a part of them all, I guess.

Did you make it all the way to the end? Wow, thank you haha~
