I ing can't with AFF anymore

There, I said it.

I tend not to judge, except when I really do, and this time I feel it's quite justified.

On an unnamed review shop is a featured story on its front page, claiming that a story was so flawless that it got the max score. Intrigued as to how it can be so good when it doesn't appear to be as such from its foreword, I checked it out and LO AND ING BEHOLD. It's a story that's about two fathers teaching their two disabled, gay CHILDREN to each other in the most explicit and ographic ways possible. The two fathers later each other, too, 'cuz why the not.

[inb4 "lol it's ok cuz theyre not real people haha"]

?????????

I mean???

Why???

Why would you ever think that this was a good topic to write about?

WHY DOES IT HAVE ALMOST 20 THOUSAND VIEWS

AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO DOESN'T CONDONE LITERARY IA AND STATUTORY ????

?????????????? AM I??????????????????????????????????????????????????

WELL?????

Lemme just... Lemme take a breath.

Listen.

I've taken such great care in trying to accept the fact that AFF seems to attract ually frustrated, absolute nutjob tweens who have the writing style of someone who has never opened a book - but guess what? This, right here, this is where I draw the line.

I'm so ing over this place and it's ridicule of everything that new-wave literature has the potential to become. When will I read a story that doesn't cater to the desperate fantasies of someone who is writing about themself in third person? When will I read a story that isn't filled with ia-fueled nightmare material on "how to fall in love in school with that boy that you hate but secretly love"? When will I ing read a story that doesn't contain blatant ism or harmful stereotypes? Huh? WHEN?

Lemme tell you.

I won't. I won't read one, because I'm not gonna stick around.

The climate of this place is getting to me. The other week I left a comment on a fic which was a painfully obvious case of theft and infringement on intellecual property, but when I stated this and made the author aware of the fact that they could get hit by copyright claims, the author not only deleted my comment but also replied with something like "nu-uh, it's not, 'cuz, yeah".

I'm sick of finding endless and yet endless supplies of gay/lesbian a or straight romance for no reason other than "this is what people want to read". I'm sick of finding tropes stacked on tropes. I'm beyond sick of the ization of human beings and their culture and the bastardization of logic and reasonable thought. Lastly, I'm sick of people being individualistic enough that they hail their own opinions as gospel and others' as trash. Be respectful of each other, BUT DON'T FORGET TO LISTEN.

This brings me to my final point. I think fanfiction has gone too far in a number of aspects, the main one being that we as a comunity no longer care about who the people are that we write about when we write about them. I'm guilty of this reasoning myself, but I realized early on that I'm basing my story on nothing but a borrowed face and name, the two opening up for my fantasies to roam free on a sheet of paper. I'm not going to write fanfiction anymore, because I'm not writing about the people - I'm making an original character with a stolen name and face. Essentially, this is what most of us are doing; we're not taking aspects of their real personas into our stories, we just want them to star in the movies that we direct.

I in' swear.

I'm too old for this and I'm too old for this place and whatever the is happening to it.

I'm not sorry for this rant.

I kinda get what you mean, although I'm pretty sure I'm in the category of authors you hate but anyways.

That's a pretty disturbing plot, it must be related to some kind of kink I'm unaware of. But since I'm not the most vanilla person ever I'm not gonna say anything as long as nobody is hurt and it has all the proper warnings.

What called my attention in your blog is "I'm making an original character with a stolen name and face. Essentially, this is what most of us are doing; we're not taking aspects of their real personas into our stories, we just want them to star in the movies that we direct. " This is exactly what I do! But why do you think is wrong? I don't know, I'm just curious. And bored, lol.

I was reading this with my sister and she almost threw up. I've been on AFF on two different accounts since 2012 (I'm 20 now) and honestly it's getting worse; from plagiarism to rude koreaboos and the story you talked about is one of many. it's absolutely repulsive and disgusting and it's one of the reasons why I don't connect on AFF often.
we understand that some are trying to reach original content, but wth??!! this is plain crazy and sick!! And what's worse is that it got featured on a review shop; just because it gets good feedback from equally sick readers doesn't meen that it's appropriate enough
almost all the fanfics here are mpreg, I have to use filtering so that I can find something worth reading, while some writers spend time producing some good , it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
I would have left if it wasn't for some good stories that deserve to be appreciated.

First and foremost, that is gross. How do people seriously sit down and feel the need to write such a story. Are others by the situation or something? I've seen mpreg on a lot of stories and I always feel sad cause it's probably a well written story that I won't be reading cause I'm not comfortable with the tag/genre/idea. Even if I find a nice clean story with a decent plot, it either sounds childish, can't understand it at all due to terrible grammar (not that I'm all that great either, but at least semi-descent), or is unrealistic. It's so hard to find a good story on this site. I'm surprised I lasted this long as well.

Everything is always mpreg on here. Even trying to look through the tag that ISNT Mature, I end up with ty stories. At least in AO3 you can filters you, but if you leave this stuff out you hardly have any stories to read. I'm also tired of these sorts of things too.

You legit have right to be angry. This is sick.I have nothing against gay people but micing it with disability and paedhophilic traits- Lord Bless My Life.
There are teens here who are broken, suicidal and stick to genres like male pregnancy, omegaverse and arranged marriage. Its sick but the views are sickening as they rise more as we speak.
Where are the days when we appreciated healthy romance, comedy , fluff and angst?
And the content that AFF moderators are putting up on features just because of views, I highly doubt these. Based on views and upvotes and comments- please update authornim- like i could open thousand accounts and get my fic feautured.
Previously, a few kids went to tell their parents about disturbing content on AFF. I just hope history does not repeat itself.

YALLLLLLLLL WHAT THE FREAKING HECK??? THATS JUST A ED UP STORY IN GENERAL CAUSE WHY IN THE FIRST PLACE A HUMAN BEING WOULD WRITE A STORY ABOUT THAT? SERIOUSLY I WOULD REPORT IT

holy that is disgusting
honestly, i've been sick and tired of these fics for a long time and i really don't know why i still come on. i basically just stick with my set group of friends that i know write quality and un-vomit-worthy fics
the rest of aff is like uncharted territory full of dangerous and kids

OH and report that e content or let me know, and I will happily do it!

I feel ya! There are many clueless children on this site. They don't understand the reality of things. I can think of one particular user who enjoys posting horrific stories like you described. They just don't understand.
And of course there are users who think they are allowed to copy other people's published books or fanfics and change the character names. They believe it's okay because they gave credit to the original author.
I feel your frustration.
I'm not sure how old you are, but I suggest finding some folks your age with your temperament here on AFF. They do exist! Other fanfic sites allow such terrible content. I think AFF should have stricter guidelines about content, but no such luck. But, I do appreciate that they have more than say AO3, for example. ANYTHING goes on AO3.
I usually write fanfics the way you described--borrowing a person's face to put into my story. Though, sometimes I write about a TV show, etc.
If you want to chat and vent, I'm available!
I'm way too old for this crap. There are plenty of us around!
