I ing can't with AFF anymore
There, I said it.
I tend not to judge, except when I really do, and this time I feel it's quite justified.
On an unnamed review shop is a featured story on its front page, claiming that a story was so flawless that it got the max score. Intrigued as to how it can be so good when it doesn't appear to be as such from its foreword, I checked it out and LO AND ING BEHOLD. It's a story that's about two fathers teaching their two disabled, gay CHILDREN to each other in the most explicit and ographic ways possible. The two fathers later each other, too, 'cuz why the not.
[inb4 "lol it's ok cuz theyre not real people haha"]
?????????
I mean???
Why???
Why would you ever think that this was a good topic to write about?
WHY DOES IT HAVE ALMOST 20 THOUSAND VIEWS
AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO DOESN'T CONDONE LITERARY IA AND STATUTORY ????
?????????????? AM I??????????????????????????????????????????????????
WELL?????
Lemme just... Lemme take a breath.
Listen.
I've taken such great care in trying to accept the fact that AFF seems to attract ually frustrated, absolute nutjob tweens who have the writing style of someone who has never opened a book - but guess what? This, right here, this is where I draw the line.
I'm so ing over this place and it's ridicule of everything that new-wave literature has the potential to become. When will I read a story that doesn't cater to the desperate fantasies of someone who is writing about themself in third person? When will I read a story that isn't filled with ia-fueled nightmare material on "how to fall in love in school with that boy that you hate but secretly love"? When will I ing read a story that doesn't contain blatant ism or harmful stereotypes? Huh? WHEN?
Lemme tell you.
I won't. I won't read one, because I'm not gonna stick around.
The climate of this place is getting to me. The other week I left a comment on a fic which was a painfully obvious case of theft and infringement on intellecual property, but when I stated this and made the author aware of the fact that they could get hit by copyright claims, the author not only deleted my comment but also replied with something like "nu-uh, it's not, 'cuz, yeah".
I'm sick of finding endless and yet endless supplies of gay/lesbian a or straight romance for no reason other than "this is what people want to read". I'm sick of finding tropes stacked on tropes. I'm beyond sick of the ization of human beings and their culture and the bastardization of logic and reasonable thought. Lastly, I'm sick of people being individualistic enough that they hail their own opinions as gospel and others' as trash. Be respectful of each other, BUT DON'T FORGET TO LISTEN.
This brings me to my final point. I think fanfiction has gone too far in a number of aspects, the main one being that we as a comunity no longer care about who the people are that we write about when we write about them. I'm guilty of this reasoning myself, but I realized early on that I'm basing my story on nothing but a borrowed face and name, the two opening up for my fantasies to roam free on a sheet of paper. I'm not going to write fanfiction anymore, because I'm not writing about the people - I'm making an original character with a stolen name and face. Essentially, this is what most of us are doing; we're not taking aspects of their real personas into our stories, we just want them to star in the movies that we direct.
I in' swear.
I'm too old for this and I'm too old for this place and whatever the is happening to it.
I'm not sorry for this rant.
