APPEARANCE

kang haneul is long and lanky and thin - a body type that kind of stands out amongst her shorter members ( what is she doing during 1cm -- ). if her height of 170 cm doesn't bring attention to her enough, let's zoom in. haneul likes to joke that she's two-faced because she has the physical qualities of it - on the left side of her face, she has a monolid and an attached earlobe. on the right side of her face, she has one dimple deep enough to make up for the normal cheek on the left, one very prominent double eyelid, and an unattached earlobe. the earlobes and dimple are something she embraces as her charm, but she uses double eyelid tape for schedules. luckily, her group's concepts hasn't called for any drastic hair changes, so her long, black hair is healthy and normal, probably to balance out the rest of her weirdness. haneul has a birthmark on her inner right calf that looks like islands and a scar on the front of her left calf from when she fell on a knife. yeah, don't ask.

STYLE

haneul likes the very loose, comfortable style. this means things like oversized tops, distressed clothing, mom jeans, flannels, boyfriend jeans. and as much as she likes looking good in these styles, she also doesn't mind going simple in adidas pants and a sweater. she likes vintage-y contemporary brands as well as street style brands like stussy and thrasher. idk, man. her one and only rule is that she must be comfortable, which can vary from street stle to a more hipster fashion. she also likes accesorizing casually with things like chokers, rings, and woven anklets ( more than things like dainty chains, she likes braided bracelets ). she just likes outfits where she can breath and freely sit with her long legs sprawled like always, so skirts actually aren't her favorite thing. she'll work a tshirt dress or a button-up suede skirt once in a while, but it's rare. she doesn't like being revealing, so crop tops are kept to a minimum as well as tank tops with no cardigan. mostly because armpits are weird --

PERSONALITY

wow okay i can fEEL the contradictions !! but allow me to explain - haneul doesn't like awkward or uncomfortable situations or atmospheres, so she's always working to make people feel comfortable with her. and it works - she has a pretty bubbly personality and is very talkative and amiable, what with being dubbed the happy virus of her group. she's very caring and compassionate for other people, always making sure she's not pushing them or any boundaries because she's a very big people pleaser and she doesn't want people to not like her. being kind just comes easy to her, maybe because she's very observant and she can pick up quickly what type of person you are, and so she behaves herself accordingly. she's very adaptable in that way, and some people might see her differently than others see her, but it's just because she acts however she thinks is most comfortable for the person she's with. this means that she can be very good at small talk and the polite kind of humor that makes people feel comfortable, but she can also be weird and outgoing if the person she's with is just as loud and crazy. she also tends to not be scared to take initiative around people who are naturally quiet and she's just very compatible with people !!

but, alas, it's hard on her. sure other people may recognize her efforts, but it usually goes unnoticed enough that haneul gets stressed very easily about whether or not that person took her words the right way, or whether that person heard her mutter a thank you, or whether or not she reacted the right way. she's very easily anxious because of this, and while sometimes she can just file the overbearing thoughts away to dwell on later, she can also tend to overthink things and she gets worrisome over the smallest things because she's so desparate for human approval. this is a major flaw because it holds back her own growth !!, but sometimes she just can't help thinking about one thing she did wrong, which usually leads to her remembering that other thing she did wrong oh and then that one personality trait she can't fix and she just overwhelms herself very easily. this is ALSO a problem, because however much she gets overwhelmed by these feelings, she doesn't share her feelings to anyone. people are so used to relying on her, and she knows that, so she thinks that she herself can't talk about her problems because then it'll make her seem weak and then who are her friends supposed to turn to ? since she doesn't really talk about her emotions, haneul can be very independent, eager to show that she can take care of herself. being so reticent is never good, though, and it shows in haneul's depression. no one would ever expect happy virus haneul to be depressed, but she's the living proof that you should not judge a book by it's cover. she's just so good at hiding everything behind a smile, and sometimes she can even fool herself into thinking that things are okay. but it's very easy for her to sink into herself when she's alone. at 1am in the dark of her dorm, haneul lays awake, thinking about how imperfect she is and how undeserving of all this she is. these feelings don't take over her life, though, thank god - haneul truly is a happy virus and she loves making other people happy and she loves her members and she loves what she does, but it's just very very easy for her to beat down on herself when she's alone.

as time passes, though, she becomes more aware of how unhealthy her mindset is, and so she starts trying to change herself. she tries harder to focus on the good things in life - her fans, her members, her family, her friends - things she's always been aware of but realizes she needs to give more credit to - and talk things out with herself and other people instead of bottling up her feelings. haneul's very creative ( which can mean a variety of things - she's very good at playing with kids because of her creativeness, and she tends to contribute to candy's quirky choreos a lot, and she's p innovative in her ideas, and she also tends to frequently hold conversations with inanimate objects. this is where a lot of her humor comes from, mostly because she's very good at playing by herself and so she gets very excited when with other people who relate to her humor ) and she starts using her talents and passions as an outlet for her feelings because she knows it's healthier. sO YEAH THERE'S YOUR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT INSPIRATION - but on the surface, haneul's a very outgoing girl who's known for her outstanding talents, loud presence, and rather unfeminine qualities numerous charms. i hope you don't misunderstand and think haneul's being fake all the time, because she really is a happy person who loves making other people happy !! it's just when she's alone that she's very prone to getting caught up in her emotions that she usually holds back. ( wOW I THINK I ACTUALLY DID REALLY GOOD ON THIS BUT IDK YOU BE THE JUDGE )

BACKGROUND

so haneul likes to think she's had a pretty normal life, and i guess eh has idk everyone's different. but let's start off by talking about how haneul was raised kind of as the man of the house. her parents divorced when she was 3, leaving haneul with her mom and her grandparents. this is why she's so independent and boyish and tough and it's also why she keeps her feelings in because she's been feeling responsible for people since a very young age and she thought she needed to man up in order to take care of them, even if she was the maknae of the family. so it was just a lot of pressure on her and school didn't help, either. haneul's smart, no doubt, and she always had passing grades, but her work ethic was just not there and she procrastinated a lot and had no motivation and school just stressed and exhausted her to the max. her depression started, being fueled by all that stress, and it wasn't even high school yet. but along with the age of 14 came nEW BEGINNINGS WOW PRETEEEEN !! music had always been the highlight of haneul's life - it was her outlet for all the stress and emotions she had piled up over the years and kpop was her main source of happiness, of course, but music in general is something haneul appreciates a lot because it means so much to people and it can cross boundaries and reak barriers and like even if she doesn't like i.e. country music as much as her kpop, she still lowkey feels for it because it's mUSIC AND THERE ARE OTHERS WHO FEEL FOR IT and music is literally her life and it's gotten her here today if you know what i mean. she's always wanted to be in the korean entertainment industry, because nothing else appealed to her as something she could do and love, and her actor cousin dongwon helped a lot in convincing haneul's mom that it was generally safe and that nothing good was going to come out of keeping haneul from doing what she wants. so there she was, at age 14, a young trainee who didn't start off well since her grandpa had just passed away. that event made her trainee years a lot more difficult than it should've been, but thanks to friends and her lovely members, lookit her now being one of the modern rookies who debuts at like age 5 and she's now super successful and a lot happier and yeah she's just grown up with very rough mental situations and so she's learned to appreciate the little things in life and idk man she's had a tough life, but now nothings too tough anymore bc iN THE END HARDSHIPS REAP GOOD RESULTS OR WHATEVER IDEK

LIKES
 ─ POTATOES idk, man even she doesn't understand this obsession. the word just makes her laugh and she loves fries and she wants a kawaii stuffed potato doll -- idk. she's always comparing herself to a potato and bringing potatoes into conversations, even if it's not relevant - but believe me, she'll make it relevant. ( and hey, now the scandal will make sense )
 ─ GUDETAMA who doesn't like gudetama, though, honestly. everyone can relate to the lazy egg who is adorable and japanese and this is also probably why haneul excels at japanese hAH
 ─ KIDS or babies, to be more specific. haneul's very good with the younger ones, even if they can't talk. she somehow communicates with them very well and understands what they want and such, which is probably why she handles jaemin a lot better than jungkook. the five year old doesn't talk a lot, but she understands him and his needs and knows when to push him and when to leave him be. #momandwifematerialmanhmu she is also iN LOVE with the lee twins and the triplets and the soda siblings, all from the return of superman show.
 ─ JUNK FOOD dieting was so very hard for her. hot cheetos and ice cream are her main sources of guilt happiness. she rEALLY REALLY LIKES ICE CREAM AND WANTS TO TRY ALL THE ICE CREAM INVENTIONS IN THE WORLD
 ─ ANIMALS especially baby animals !!1! she always gets distracted by dogs in the street and she always wants to pet that stray cat near her dorm and she's just so weak ack she falls in love with animals so very easily. like...all animals, honestly. she thinks baby pigs are cute, she thiks bulldogs are cute, she thinks baby tigers are an ideal pet. she just loves animals.
 ─ CLAM CHOWDER IN SOURDOUGH BREAD BOWLS yes

DISLIKES
 ─ SAUCY ~ unless it's neccessary like pizza sauce, haneul does not like sauce. she doesn't like lots of pizza sauce in the first place, she spreads her cream cheese very thinly, she hates ketchup and mustard and mayo and all of the above. and while were at it, she doesn't like whipped cream or frosting, either. the taste is just too...gross otl. like, if just one dot of ketchup gets on her fry, she won't eat it. so of course, sometimes jungkook "accidentally" drops haneul's fries in ketchup so "oh how sad i'll just eat it for you"
 ─ BEANS ew who likes beans, honestly. this includes red bean, so she isn't a hUGE fan of bingsu, but she still likes the other ingredients of the icy desert. when the trio goes out to eat bingsu, haneul leaves the red beans to her bois.
 ─ AEGYO haneul's boyish, no doubt about that. one quality that shows that is her opinio on aegyo. people can be good at it. people can be very good at it. haneul is not very good at it. she personally strongly dislikes girls who try too hard to be cute and she doesn't understand them, either. on variety shows, whenever anyone does aegyo ( honestly, aNYONE i'm not even kidding. unless it's a kid -- ), haneul's cringing. it takes special talent to make haneul do anything other than cringe and watch in pure horror. she hates being asked to do aegyo because it makes her feel desperate, and she tolerates her member's aegyo the most. which still isn't a lot.
 ─ CHEESE now hey, in meokbangs and food videos, cheese is glorious. but to haneul, it's not all that...beautiful. the smell sometimes suffocates her and it's like sauce to her -- the feeling / taste / everything is just...not her style. however, she will sometimes give in to like 110% melted cheese like in cheese ttokppoki or something. but usually, she doesn't care for it.
 ─ GETTING DIRTY okay, if it's like a show and she needs to play in the mud, she'll go all out for it, but if it's clearing the table at home, she doesn't like touching the food at the edge of the plate. she basically is very picky about the little things and doesn't like being dirty unless it's something she just has to embrace in that situation. so it's basically all or nothing.

HOBBIES
 ─ WATCHING FOOD VIDEOS tasty, tastemade, insider food, asmr recipes, whatever it may be, haneul loves watching it. she can spend hours watching those sped up 30 second videos on how to make a dinner for two and it's one of her favorite pasttimes. but alas, she doesn't learn anything and is still hopeless in the kitchen.
 ─ PLAYING PHONE GAMES haneul really likes playing games, like candy crush and cookie jam and otome games all those other things - she likes trying out new games, but she's mostly consistent on cookie jam - lEVEL 569 COME AT ME JEON JUNGKOOK. of course the two get very competitive against each other with these things.
 ─ NAIL ART this is probably the most girly part of haneul - she really likes nail art and she just has a thing for hands in general and she usually leans toward more classy designs than cute designs, but yeah she really enjoys doing her nails. she also would like to someday do jungkook's. she does it herself to help her stylists, and she did it once with jungkook and jaemin watching her. she allowed jaemin to draw with her colors as long as he didn't spill or get it on himself, and jungkook simply sat next to her and tried to mess her up, soon giving up and just laying his head on the table, staring up at haneul's concentrated face.
 ─ DOING NOTHING yeet couch potato for life. haneul's either crazy or lazy there's like no in between #rhymemaster she loves her bed and has a small trash bin right next to it so she doesn't have to get up to throw her trash away. she always grunts and makes dying animal noises habitually when she's getting up and honestly she just wants to spend a full day just lying on the couch with jaemin. unless jungkook provokes her, bc no way is she backing down to win over him in something.
 
HABITS
 ─ BLANKET BURRITO this is a very frequent sight in the candy dorm. haneul loves the feeling of being wrapped in a blanket and just not having to move, so you can usually walk into candy's dorm to see a rolled up blanket on the floor or the couch or wherever. and sometimes, if you roll it over, you might be lucky enough to see the sacred face of haneul-who-looks-like-an-egg-because-all-her-hair-is-away-from-her-face
 ─ BEING WEIRD she likes playing with the edge of fabric, be it a pillowcase, her clothes, or someone else's shirt. she does that last one unconsciously at times, and her members always make fun of her because if she's just grabbing onto their arm, she'll just start playing with their sleeve and they're like wtf -- so she tries not to do it as much otl but it's satisfying to her and of course she does it to jungkook accidentally too and he's like wth but then she explains and he like nonchalantly lets her continue the next time she does it unconsciously bc it's a sign of affection, believe it or not !!1!
 ─ MAKING PUNS i was gonna include this in the nickname section, but haneul is the only one who calls herself a pun master...sighpies. but i don't understand why no one else acknowledges her talent ?? she is always ready to jump in with little plays on words and she's always aiming to make a pun about pretty much half the things she talks about and she's pretty good at it, too. more than making jokes, she's impromptu about it, jumping in with the occasional "haiku ? more like bYEKU HAH HANEUL OUT"
 ─ MAKING DYING ANIMAL NOISES uh...yeah. yet another of haneul's unfeminine qualities, yaaay !! haneul's voice is deep in the first place, and she just finds it hard to laugh anything but loud cackles and she doesn't make pleasant noises of surprise, either. be it when she drops her food or when a bug flies in front of her face or when she's stretching or when she trips or when she's in any sort of pain, haneul's instinct isn't a high-pitched ( or even normal-pitched) squeal - instead it's something that sounds like a mix between a hippo and an elephant. i.e., "uUUUAAAAGAHHGSDFJLSJL"
 ─ YAY MORE WEIRD NOISES haneul has a habit of making gagging noises whenever she goes over bumps in the road. even if she's talking, she'll pause in order to make the throw up noise. who knows why. she just feels the need to. she does it all the time in candy's van and keeps it in around strangers but ofc the day comes where she's in the car with jungkook and it just happens and he's like wHAT THE FRICK MAN I ALMOST CRASHED WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU so of course now she does it all the time.

FEARS
 ─ SPIDERS insects in general, really. she really can not handle them. if she sees one near her, she'll book it, but if it's already on her, she'll just stand still, paralyzed. she can't kill bugs, so she has to wait in utter pain until someone can get it off of her. she can't even kill ants - not with a tissue, not with a shoe - well, not her shoe. the most she can do is drop a heavy book on it and wait until someone comes so they can clean it up bc she is not wiping up bug guts. bugs are the number one for sure thing that will make haneul cry. if it's on her, he'll cry, if you use her shoe to kill it, she'll cry, if you kill it on one of her things, she'll cry, if you make her kill it, she'll cry ( and won't do it, btw ), etc. she hates peole seeing her with spiders because of this crying instinct, but idk man she can't help it. and it's not like a girly scream cry or whatever idk it's legit she's covering her face, paralyzed, and not move, until someone hugs her and says it's okay. her members have learned not to mess with her about it. there's no "oMG HANEUL DON'T MOVE THERE'S A BUG ON YOU" in candy unless it's true. oml, just that sentence makes her tear up.
 ─ CLOWNS who's nOT scared of clowns ??
 ─ THE DARK let's be real - pretty much everyone is scared of the dark. haneul's no exception. she doesn't like the feeling of nOTKNOWING WHAT'S WAITING FOR HER ASDF and she gets paranoid about that horror stuff a lot and she just doesn't like walking alone in the dark. see, late night walks near the peaceful hankang are different, but having to go downstairs for a glass of water ? nah, i'll just hope i don't die of thirst as i sleep.

 ─ DIMPLE QUEENS her and wheein are an unofficial unit. usually, though, it's 95 line, unni line, and then haneul...i mean, sure, more screen time, but she gets lonely. "i want to make a heart with someone instead of sitting in the center doing it by myself ;;"
 ─ IDEAL TYPE the typical answer she gives is something along the lines of 'taller than me, has the same type of humor and a nice body'. it's not like hat's not true. haneul really does want someone who has similar humor because even if she can still get along with someone who doesn't, she doesn't want to date someone she can't be eNSURED LAUGHTER WITH ! and of course she wants a tall, muscular guy. towering over her members all the time makes haneul stick out a lot more than she'd prefer, so she likes being with her taller guy friends who are just bigger in general and help her feel more comfortable instead of the lanky awkwardness she feels around her perfectly sized members. but getting more deep, haneul wants someone who she doesn't have to sacrifice for. her personality allows her to adapt to other's personalities, but she wants someone she doesn't have to try to be comfortable with, someone she just naturally relates to. wHICH IS JUNGKOOK
 ─ YES CHEF haneul is literally hopeless in the kitchen. she has no common sense when it comes to food and since she overthinks things, she has too many questions for her to get anything done, but nOW SHE IS A WIFE AND MOTHER. she really reaaally wants to learn to cook not just for her, but for the sake of her smol bois who need to grow, so she's determined to learn how to make food that actually tastes good. she knows she can't be excellent overnight, but this is really something she's worried about even predebut because what about her future family ?? her first attempt isn't...er...the best, and jungkook makes sure to express it, the little punk ( ofc he says later that he was kidding and that he appreciates her lack of wife material skills ). but as time passes, her boys notice the food is getting better and jungkook likes to call out "yes, chef !" whenever she asks him to do something while she's cooking. "i don't think i've worked so hard for something since debut" - haneul, wHO IS REALLY TRULY PROUD OF HERSELF SHE MIGHT CRY MOTHER LOOK I'M NOT USELESS ANYMORE
 ─ CALLIGRAPHY haneul has been blessed with the talent of calligraphy !! she doesn't have any special tools, she can do just fine with a fine point marker. which is all she has. for her birthday or something, jungkook buys her a legit calligraphy pen and in return, haneul writes him something meaningful < 3
 ─ GNO see, the thing is, none of candy is very feminine, at least not as much as other girl groups these days, and haneul doesn't mind that, because that's not how she herself is. however, there's always times where haneul sees things like kstyle tv and idols doing makeup tutorials and she yEARNS. she doesn't know how to do makeup herself, but sometimes she wANTS TO HAVE SLEEPOVERS AND MAKEOVERS AND SHE WANTS TO TRY ALL THOSE COOL MAKEUP PRODUCTS AND BE PRETTY AND ASDF. lowkey want to have a girl's night out w her bois --
 ─ SPICY ~ she's very very good with spicy food.
 ─ PLEASE AND THANK YOU haneul always always always says please and thank you and it's okay and sorry and you're welcome and all the stuff you say to your friends and strangers alike. sometimes, though, it doesn't work out, because she'll mumble it very quietly and then stress over if they heard her not. or she'll say sorry when she's supposed to say it's okay and then start stuttering. or she'll say it's okay to someone who didn't even notice they bumped into her and then she'll die of embarrassment. moral of the story is, haneul is v mannerful - probably too mannerful for her own good bc no one even hears her half the time. and note : she still says bless you to people unconsciously. korean people don't say bless you, but having grown up in america, it's a habit for her, so she tends to yell out bless you to people who sneeze and then she's just like oops --. she's gotten better at not blurting it out and she only uses it with her members and close friends and american friends, and then of course she uses it with jungkook as well as jaemin, who asks her one day what it means and when she explains it to him he just nods and the next time she sneezes, hE SAYS IT and she's like aSDF

 ─ PERIOD CRAMPS haneul gets pretty bad period cramps on her first, let's say, two days ? they're actually pretty bad, and honestly it's nothing but a miracle that she's never fainted on stage once a month. but yeah, the pain can vary, but lowkey she gets cramps while filming for wgab and jaemin's like "hey, daddy? i think mommy is crying." and jungkook's like wAIT WHAT -- and she's just lying on the couch, covering her face. she's not making any noise, but he like crouches down and like leans close to her and he's aCTUALLY SUPER WORRIED BC HANEUL'S ALWAYS BEEN SO PRIDEFUL OF HER STRENGTH LIKE SHE'S COMPETITIVE ENOUGH FOR JUNGKOOK TO FEEL CHALLENGED DAILY and he makes her move her hands, which she does because she doesn't have the strength to fight it, and her eyes are scrunched closed and there are tear stains on her cheeks. she never cries because of period cramps intentionally, it just comes out naturally because of the pain. so jungkook like shows his soft side and is like "can i get you anything?" which he can't bc the most haneul can do is just wait for it to go away so he just holds her hand and sits next to her and jaemin walks in the room and jungkook tells him to come and help mommy feel better.
 ─ ACTING-DOL haneul wants to go into acting, too, mostly being influenced by dongwon as well as being fairly good at it. probably because she's so good at hiding her feelings otl --
 ─ KEEPING UP WITH THE TRENDS no, not the kardashians, sorry. everyone knows how 'in the loop' korean idols are from the way they dab on stage and have playlists of recent american music and do the running man into their waiting room. haneul, along with the rest of her members, are no exception. they sing to rihanna's 'work' pretty much all the time and wheein is dubbed the 'miguk dance' teacher, and haneul is of course her star student. candy can be seen 99% of the time blasting 'work' in their dance room and doing all sorts of dances wow.

ok, so yes, the two were out at the same time, but not together !! they were both out for personal business and had coincidentally met at an outdoor mall. being the good friends they are, they were more than happy to see each other and naturally hugged and decided to walk together and window shop and walk around a bit more before parting to attend to their own matters. it was a good memory, until dispatch, who had third wheeled the whole thing, released "picture evidence" for blogs like allkpop and koreaboo to use and gush about the "short but sweet date the two shared". it only took 2 days max for the two companies involved to deny it and explain the situation, but there's never not hate in dating scandals, like come on. at first, haneul and vernon laughed about it, because honestly, it was all so ridiculous. after making sure the two really didn't have feelings for each other, they personally thought it'd be over, but apparently not - especially for haneul. from negative comments on candy's videos to violently slashed potatoes left on their dorm doorsteps, haneul's new antifans made it their job to ruin her life. and they almost did - this was one of the first times fans had reacted so violently against the female participant of a dating scandal, but no one knew why. this was during candy's promotions in early 2015, and it was very hard for haneul to go up on stage and in front of cameras and smile her pain away. it didn't help any more that the fan chants seemed quieter than usual. the scandal and hate messed with haneul's mental state a lot, but in due time, and with the help of her loved ones, she was able to get over it. in the beginning of the scandal, vernon was busy promoting, too, so they didn't get that much time to talk things out, but after their promotions, he made sure to call her up and make sure she was okay and promise her a dinner - or is that a bad idea. and there were her members, who helped her to look on the bright side of things and helped her to laugh it off and feel encouraged by secretly bashing on the antifans -- and all the staff involved with candy was very kind to her because everyone knew it was false and it was truly hurting her. there was no reason to be mad, anyways, since rbw doesn't have a dating ban, so honestly, everyone was just mad at the netizens hurting haneul. and if you look back on it now, there's probably twice the amount of supporters now than haters then. so hey, who's the real winner here?
