— Carpe Diem! | Everyday, Jiho works with carpe diem as her mantra. She doesn't like waisting any time and tries her best to be productive whenever she can. If her situation begins to look tough, she reminds herself that even if she's facing hardships at that moment, tomorrow will be a new day. — Living the American Dream

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jiho lived a pretty good lifestyle. Before she was born, her parents decided to move to the US from Busan, in hopes of having a better life for their daughter. Her father managed to open up a traditional Korean restaurant in the heart of LA, where Koreatown is located. At night, their restaurant would turn into a street food stall where they would offer the different types of streetfoods you would find along the streets back in Korea. Her parents are very loving and supportive with whatever dreams that she chased.

—  Dance is who I am

Since everything was so easily accessible in LA, there were many things that had caught Jiho's attention growing up. She never really stuck to anything. She tried playing sports, but she quickly got tired of it. Jiho tried playing an instrument, she couldn't sit still all the time. But at the age of eleven, she was introduced to dance when her best friend asked if she wanted to come along with her to a dance class that he had found interesting. Seeing as there was nothing else to do, Jiho gladly went along with him and they took a workshop at IDA Hollywood. It was something that was out of her comfort zone, but something that she really enjoyed doing. Jiho also found it as an outlet whenever things got to overwhelming for her. Seeing that it was something that came natural to her, she consistently trained herself while her best friend pursued more of singing. She eventually became a regular and a part of the studio's dance team. Her best friend and classmates would always deem her as "the dancing machine" of her friend group because she'd never stop moving or dancing. Jiho grew to be known in the LA dance community and she had even got invited to perform a solo at one of the well-known junior competitions in the area when she was fourteen. Since there were so many studios in LA, she trained with a goal to be versatile dancer.

— Family always comes first, along with new beginnings.

When she was fifteen, Jiho and her family had to move back to Korea because her grandmother on her mom's side had fallen ill. Because of her mom being an only child, they had to go back home to help take care of her. Her father planned to also open up his own restaurant after the move. They moved back to their old neighborhood where her mother was reunited with her best friend and her daughter, Choi Hyojin. Once Hyojin found out that Jiho was a dancer, she introduced her to the Korean dance community. It was Hyojin that became her mentor in Korea and helped her adjust to the Korean lifestyle. Every day after her classes, Jiho would attend all the classes and often spent her time making friends with the underground community. It was there that she found her crew members: Cho Haru, Kwon Minhee, and Jung Jihoon. They were the people she was closest to in the community and one day decided to make a crew while hanging out with them. the four of them soon became known as Playm8. Their name came to be because they're all mates and love to have fun. It also became a play on Jihoon's personality because he's a playboy and loves to flirt with other girls so the four of them would always joke around saying it's based on Jihoon as their mascot and the girls are the mates, like Playboy. They danced on the streets by doing dance covers of the hottest songs in the K-pop scene and competed in local, underground, and neighborhood dance competitions. They're also familiar faces that people would see on the class footage that 1Million would post on their Youtube Channel and would use the studio as their practice space. 

—  Me? You want me as a trainee?

After one of Playm8's performances at the Han River, she and her crew members were being congratulated as the second place winner when a talent scout had approached them. He had his eyes specifically on Jiho and had told her that there was something about her that could make her a potential idol and handed her information about SM Entertainment's upcoming auditions. He further asked her questions about her dance history before encouraging her to do it and left. Her members were very supportive of her and wanted her to do it because it was an offer that doesn't come by. She was iffy at first, but Jihoon reminded her of their constant conversations of what it would be like to perform in front of thousands of people. Her dream was to constantly be on stage and they had often said that being an idol was an ideal life because you were always recreating and pushing yourself as an artist while getting to travel around the world and being constantly on stage. So, Jiho brought it up to her family and they was all for it. Hyojin was proud of her and introduced her to her childhood friends: Hoya and Feeldog, who were also idols, to look after her.  A couple weeks later, Jiho attended the audition at the age of sixteen and passed.

— Mentor/Older Sister Figure • Choi Hyojin / 25 / choreographer / spunky, outgoing / 9.5 / She looks up to her as an inspiration/older sister and Hyojin is the one that constantly pushes her to evolve and grow as a dancer. Whenever they're together, they become so loud that Hoya and Feeldog often try their best to shut the two up. But with both of their outgoing personalities, there's no stopping them. Hyojin is who she goes to whenever she needs advice.

 

— Older Brother Figure • Lee Howon (Hoya) / 25 / Infinite Member / witty, playful / 8.5 / He's always constantly teasing her about her height and often jokes around with her. Whenever Jiho hangs out with Hoya, she can never stop laughing because of how quick he is to retort and react to things. The two are always bickering at each other and would often place bets to see who would be the winner.

      

— Older Brother Figure • Oh Gwangseok (Feeldog) / 25 / Bigstar Member / caring, affectionatel / 8.5 / Jiho's safe haven whenever she's together with the three of them: Hoya, Feeldog, and Hyojin. While Hyojin and Hoya are often teasing her or playing around with her, she'd always go to Gwangseok whenever she needs to chill down. Although he is quite playful himself, the two often like to casually hang out at cafes and have heart to heart conversations. 

      

— Best Friend • Hong Jisoo (Joshua) / 20 / Seventeen Member / outgoing, funny / 10 / The both of them are childhood friends and have always been together at the hip. Even when she went back to Korea and he became a trainee, they still managed to stay in contact with each other. They are each other's foundation when things look tough and always leans on each other whenever needed. The two are always playfully arguing/making fun of each other as their way to show that they care. Since they're from the US, they aren't really shy with skinship and often do a lot of it, especially hugging/giving each other piggy back rides. She often teases him after watching Seventeen's video of doing girl group dances and makes him learn her choreography or other groups' routines. 

      

— Crew Member • Jung Jihoon / 22 / Playm8 Member/DJ / flirty, cheeky / 9 / He was the first person that she met in the underground community and immediately tried to flirt with her. Jiho was easily flustered and this made him want to constantly tease the girl. The two became close after their first encounter with Jihoon breaking the ice and gets on her nerves. He's a student, along with Minhee, Haru, and Jiho at Dongah Institute (majors in electronic music production and ususally makes their mixes for competitions). Their relationship is like Tom and Jerry but at the end of the day, they deeply care about each other. Because they are so close to each other, they would occasionally collaborate with each other for choreography. Some of their friends within the community would often mistake them for a couple which Jiho would immediately deny even if everyone ships them. { x x } {fc: kim jisoo} 

      

— Crew Member • Kwon Minhee / 20 / Playm8 Member/Choreographer / sassy, confident / 9 /  Also met through the underground community, Minhee is the moodmaker of the crew and she would often help Jiho with choreography whenever she needed it. Majoring in Theatre, she's usually in charge of coming up with staging and themes for their performances. The two are like yin and yang. They balance each other out with Minhee as the more calmer one between the two. She's who Jiho goes to talk to that guys can't relate to if Hyojin is busy. Minhee is usually the first one to notice if something's wrong with Jiho and tries her best to be there for her. {fc: twice's momo}

      

— Crew Member • Cho Haru / 18 / Playm8 Member/Fashion Designer / quiet, shy / 9 / Haru is the maknae of the group and the last to be recruited for Playm8. Jiho was the one who approached her after seeing her constantly at the underground battles and at 1Million. She found it adorable how shy Haru is but changes to a confident young woman whenever she dances. As a fashion major, despite her young age, can confidently put together Playm8's costumes and usually the one the crew asks for fashion help. Jiho thinks of Haru as a younger sister and loves to dote on her. Jiho would always act really affectionate towards her and treat her to meals while enjoying a calm day out together. {fc: lee hi}

         

— Close Dongsaeng • Liu Mei Ying / 14 / Universe Member/Trainee / adorable, endearing / 8.5 /  When they were trainees, Jiho was immediately drawn to the young girl. She immediately approached the girl and tried whatever she could to help her settle down comfortably with the training. With Jiho's outgoing personality, it was pretty easy for them to get along with each other. Jiho loves to dote on Mei Ying while treating her like her own daughter by always making sure she's keeping up with her meals and giving her small care packages during training.

 

— Friends • NCT,  / varies / idols / loud, childlike / 8 / She became friends with NCT when they were all trainees together. They love to joke around with her and treat her as "one of the guys". They're not afraid to play rough with her, whether it'd be placing bets on who could hold their plank longer or playing a game of basketball. But even if she is seen as one of the guys, they're still pretty protective of her. She's closest to Taeyong (bc rap line), Ten (helped him w/learning Korean), and Win Win (bc dance line).  

 

— Close Sunbae • Amber Liu / 23 / f(x) Member / carefree, funny / 7.5 / Jiho met Amber when she bumped into her when looking for an empty studio to practice in. The two immediately got along when Amber approached her warmly and found out that she had stayed in the US for a while. The two like to play around and pull pranks on SM Town whenever they could. When she's performing, she always loves to look for the camera and does gestures towards it, performs to it, or looks right at the camera lense. She loves to joke around and members as well as do fan service for all her fans and supporters. Jiho would do a lot of interactions with them in between transitions if she could just for the heck of it because she loves to have fun on stage. She'll also be the one who brings up games in order to figure out who'll end up doing the dishes or if they ever end up with their own variety show to settle who'll end up doing whatever needs to be done.

— After passing the auditions, her trainee years were an eye opener to her when she finally got see just how cut-throat it was to be one. It had woken up the competitive drive in her and she constantly pushed herself to become the best artist she could be. She worked hard day and night, never wanting to fall behind from the rest. She had entered with mainly dance as her strong point and had a lot to make up for her singing and rapping abilities. As time went by, her rapping improved because it was always something Jiho was deeply interested in. Hiphop culture is very popular in LA and with constant hiphop music playing over the radio/having most of her biases in the industry as rappers, it was something that she wished to accomplished. Jiho eventually found her own style and flow when it came to rapping. Although she's pretty young, her lyrics have a certain depth to them. Since singing was her weakness, she had often gotten criticized the most for that portion of training. She was known to take whatever critiques were given to her and improve by the next monthly evaluation. Jiho would usually be one of the last ones to leave because even if she was really good at dancing, she would always practice everything by herself until she's satisfied with her personal recordings due to her perfectionist personality. 

She got along with trainees and always tried to liven up the room because it was her way to ease the tension in the common tense atmosphere. Most of the time, Jiho would try her best to stay out of the drama that would sometimes spark between the other trainees from time to time. If she were to pick a side, Jiho would always stay on neutral grounds and ignore the gossip to practice. But even as a trainee, Jiho tried her best to keep up with Playm8 activities because without them, she wouldn't have been where she was at the moment.

"Oh wow," chuckles. "It's really something that I can't imagine but I've trained alongside these girls and I'm so excited to finally being able to perform on stage with all them. We've worked really hard to achieve this dream of ours and I can't wait to share our music and passion with the world." Eyesmiles and gives two thumbs up before laughing. "Watch out for us world! We are coming for ya. You ain't ready for us." 

 

Do you think the group will be a hit?

 "Definitely! With the lot of us and our work ethic, we will definitely live up to the expectations everyone has for us. I mean that's what I hope for it to be..." Smiles sheepishly and shrugs. "Everything that we do from this point on is an accomplishment or a lesson to me. But I know we'll be able to rock the world with our capabilities." 

 

 

who do you think people will compare you with?

— Purses my lips and shrugs. I guess you can say they'll probably just think of us as another girl group but I don't wish for that to happen. I hope that we won't disappoint their expectations of us because I've seen and fully know just how hard the girls and I have worked for this opportunity. I want to prove them wrong with our works and leave a lasting impression on them. We're very playful and I hope that our image can be refreshing in everyone's eyes.

 

 

are there any rivals you have in mind?

— Looks up in thought and purses my lips. "Definitely Twice and BlackPink." Nods my head as I continue to say, "Since they're from YG and JYP, I feel like they would be our biggest rivals. Then again, there are so many other great groups like WJSN and I.O.I that are pretty active."
