KOREaboos and entitlement

ahoy welcome to the first edition of -baymax talks about. i really wanted to talk about this for a long time but i haven't gotten to cos it never went to a huge extreme, but now it kinda did. i'm gonna try to be rational but all in all i'm really confused rn about a lot of things - a bit taken aback too.

anyways what is a koreaboo? are koreaboos boo seungkwan's korean fandom? are koreaboos ghosts koreans dress up as for halloween? what are koreaboos???

there you have it.

honestly, seeing this happen is probably flattering to us at first because "wow, look at their enthusiasm for our culture!" but it's the suggestive, sultry comments you throw at us just because we are korean (which led to me making another account on this site for me to escape, but that's freaking different, you know) or making us feel like we're toys to be reviewed and graded, and the 팔도강산 is like some sort of franchise to you, like that one time somebody called me a "boring seoullite" "i wish you were from busan then you would have hot satoori" "why aren't you from daegu like s.coups" like... what the actual heck.

first off, the weird romanticism that you have towards korea (i mean this can go to probably any other country, but i mustn't speak for them because i'm not part of any of them rather than the country y'all know) used to make me feel nice inside, but now it makes me sick. we are another race of people with our own country, and our own language (which i'll be talking about a little later), and our own culture. yes, we do have celebrities here, and they are quite well known, but unlike what you guys think, none of us prepare sanctuaries for agust d or something. our culture does not revolve all around kpop. in fact, k-hiphop, k-indie, and other genres??? are??? a thing too???? like???? koreans aren't all unhealthy kpop enthusiasts like what you guys like to make us to be just cos of one freaking genre.

I REMEMBER SOMEBODY SAYING THEY HAVE A SECRET FANTASY OF DATING A KOREAN SCHOOLGIRL. I REMEMBER SOMEBODY SAYING THAT ALL GANGNAM WOMEN ARE FOR UAL ADVANCES. I REMEMBER THE EXACT SAME SOMEBODY WHO SAID BOTH THINGS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED SAYING THAT THEY HAVE A FANTASY ABOUT DRINKING IN KOREA WITH RANDOM KOREAN PEOPLE FOR THE PURPOSE THAT THERE'S A BUNCH OF KOREANS AROUND. you are taking something that is so, so common in korea and making your own ual fantasies with our culture is something i can never sympathize with. it makes me uncomfortable, but do you guys care? no! no you don't! i would say "um that makes me feel uncomfortable" but you entitled people would be all "i don't feel uncomfortable, though!" yeah, you may not, but it makes us feel rather so because of how erted your minds are not to a single, good looking person, but to a whole entire culture.

and about our language, we actually fought for it. and i'm sure many other koreaboo rants have said the same thing but we fought for our independence (check out japanese imperialism and comfort women... and check out the entitled wonwoo stans on tumblr making jokes about the torture and trauma these ladies had to go through!! but "typical annoying carats" are probably another thing i'm going to talk about but not rn) and you boiling it down to a simple aesthetic or accessory that would look ~*~*~rather kyeopta*~*~* on your profile is the most hurtful thing you could do to us.

speaking of language, why is it okay to make fun of korean accents and their incorrect grammar??? like why???? is that okay???? i mean yeah like "you got no jams" "kimbap kidding"  "tree color is... green" and stuff can be just fun and games until you actually try to downplay idols' intelligence with it and actually say really rude things about it that hurts all of us in general just cos they don't speak english correctly. idk if some of you koreaboos understand this, but they are not learning english just to talk to you entitled fans. and they actually try to do it, so you entitled fans getting disappointed cos your oppar isn't matching up to your fantasies in which he speaks perfect english is again something i cannot sympathize with.

AND again to all the entitled kpop fans, ESPECIALLY YOU KOREABOOS, ARE NOT ONE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR CULTURE. YOU HAVE NO KOREAN BACKGROUND WHATSOVER and you don't go acting like some sort of god above the heavens just cos you disagree with our beauty standards, the plastic surgery industry here, or how provincial we look to other societies. heck, i can list 10 different people ik who have received plastic surgery, and just cos you don't agree with it doesn't mean the whole world agrees with your opinion too. it's all based on the different worldviews different cultures have, and you guys can't force us to change it. (yeah, i disagree with some parts of our society, which is why our suicidal rate is so high and such, but this doesn't mean you guys just automatically assume that korea's some sort of deserted dystopia from the giver quartet. we have faster wifi than the united states, so beat it.)

i can't believe being part of a culture where the music industry is internationally known can have so much disadvantages. if you just respect the way we act and the way we work and just open your eyes and stop being super superficial to us, then maybe things can work smoothly. if a korean tells you that they're feeling uncomfortable cos you're too busy accusing an idol for using the n word when they were using dialect, don't put them on blast cos that doesn't make somebody feel vulnerable, sad, or angry. it just makes them downright confused.

"we have faster wifi than the united states, so beat it." lmao this line i love.
but yes, go girl.
i'm not bragging or anything but i don't think i ever got to the stage of being a koreaboo. calling someone oppa, and i being an intl fan, just makes me cringe.
