Stories by blue_fairy : Now, Then and the Future (part 1)

Hello, dear Fairies. I am blue_fairy.

I'm currently on writing the final episodes of The Heroine's Best Friend. I've been busy for a few weeks now; between fasting, juggling patients, transferring into a new department and other things, I'm quite occupied. Writing is one thing that keeps my mind off these things so when I can't even spend five minutes to type or stare at my laptop for an hour but unable to come up with even one word, it drives me crazy.

So, in this rainy day (plus using the mini table I just bought), I'm taking my time off to share the history of my writing. It doesn't matter who reads it or not, I just want to get it out of my head. Here it goes.

I never had a clear goal in my life. My English teacher-slash-aunt (she married my uncle) taught me English since I was little and I was proud to have something I became good at. I'm not saying I'm a pro but I'm pretty fluent. I liked the way she taught me and my cousins so I decided to become an English teacher when I grow up.

When I was twelve, there's this reality singing program called Akademi Fantasia. My teachers used its theme song, Menuju Puncak (trans. Going to the Top) for motivation program. My classmates and I danced to the song for Achievement Ceremony at the end of the year. I found that I like dancing since then.

Don't get me wrong. I still wanted to be an English teacher (with added reading and dancing as my hobbies)

In the same year, they organized a Jawi writing competition. I participated with a story of me and mybest friend and submitted the Malay version to my language teacher for proofreading.

"You're good at this. Keep practicing, you'll be the best." She said. I still remember.

I submitted for the first time and won.

Back then, Indonesian dramas (we called it sinetron) were trending in my country. I remember one of my favorites, Bawang Putih Bawang Merah played by Revalina S. Temat and Nia Ramadhani. I don't know, I always find school-themed dramas to be interesting. Probably because I wished my school years to be like one. FYI, I'm a total geek plus nerd.

I'm still into writing, more to short stories. It was after watching sinetrons I gave a try on novellas. The idea was to make the story longer with elaboration. I used to print it in papers and let my friends read it. One time I adapted my friends into the characters and created a story of school life. Too bad, it went unfinished.

My ultimate goal was to get my story printed in the school magazine. Unlike fictions, academic writing requires in depth thinking. Think how a beauty queen answers a question during the final version but with the length of 2-3 A4 sized papers.

All the writing competitions I've entered so far were only at school level. Victory wasn't always by my side but I'm glad I took part in them.

I did it.

Skipping all the boring parts. Here's how I started with fanfiction.

My roommates introduced me to K-pop. She made me listen to SHINee songs and a few days later, another friend introduced me to Idol Army. That's where I saw SHINee and boy, I didn't know they were that young. I mean, five singers around my age that sounded like 10 years professionals was mindblowing. Plus, Minho was love at first sight hehe...

I have friends who devoted herself to 2PM and another to Big Bang. They filled me with a lot of things, basically how K-pop works. The friend that declared herself as VIP introduced me to fanfics.

Creating a desirable storyline consisting of your favorite K-pop idols as the main star? I must say, it's quite tempting.

Tempting enough to create my first story. Voila!

SHINee Girl was inspired by Hello Baby but instead of a baby, I adapted myself as the one. A foreign girl who came to study in Korea, offered to be in a variety/reality show as a housekeeper living with famous idols SHINee. I posted it on winglin and Asian Fanfiction under a different name.

The feedbacks were something I never expected. I didn't expect to have people other than my friends to like what I wrote. It's a whole new experience, boosting my confidence and from that day on, I was determined. I'm going to keep writing.

The story went on until 50 chapters or so. What I like about fanfics is the two way communication between the writer and readers. You will be able to see whether his/her material is worthy for reading, also the readers help to contribute in making the story better.

But unfortunately, I put it on hold at the end of 2010. I didn't finish the story and it was one of my biggest regrets.

It was also the first story I put up in this site.

October 7, 2010. This was the first day of blue_fairy.
