ELSA when you've been stuck in a hell hole before f(x) even debuted, you're bound to be one of so-called golden trainees who earn nicknames spread by the other trainees. unfortunately, vivian's icy behaviour is a ing legend at sm ent- and with the release of the hit that is frozen ( who contains a character named elsa almost too similar to her ) you're bound to get an overhyper johnny seo blasting let it go from his phone while mark and jaehyun throw leftover fake snow from miracles in december filming all over her. "let me go, els-" — johnny seo, 2013, shortly after vivian places a chokehold on him for spreading the nickname of elsa around.

ILJIN THUG this is the only nickname vivian's quite proud of, don't ask why. she gave it to herself- jokingly, but it turned into an inside joke between her close trainee friends and then it spreads like a game of whisper challenge amongst trainees who know her and those who don't. but of course, vivian never wins because some blockhead trainees actually thought that it meant she was a part of the iljin gang and spread rumours about her supposed engangements.

MEMESEO " out of all the ing things i get turned into it's a meme. " the image of pepe is a face vivian needs to imitate because technology isn't hurrying the up with displaying pictures via hologrom. how else is vivian going to respond with memes? the answer- become a meme. unfortunately vivian forgets people have this thing called cameras and social media- regardless, the international fans all tag posts of her with memeseo- meme + her korean name seokyung.. vivian isn't sure whether or not to cry or laugh.

"I'M NOT GOOGLE TRANSLATE" lies. as the daughter of a respected linguist who in his free time, loves to explore and discuss the theory of korean being related to chinese— it tends to rub off on vivian. if dolce was a real group and not a lineup- vivian would be the "international" member who leads introductions amongst other things (swearing) in different languages.

FLUENT KOREAN — her second most strongest language- what was once her native language has been reduced to british accented korean that makes her sound like a foriegner ( which is precisely why vivian doesn't introduce in korean ), words she can't remember ( but seemingly, can remember in japanese and english ) and improper pronounciations. 

FLUENT ENGLISH — english is the closest thing she has to a native language despite it not being her native language— but to be more detailed, specifically british english. "you bloody arse, go die in a ditch you ." it's been 10 years since vivian has lived in britain for more than three months at a time- she doesn't know if she should be happy that her british accent hasn't worn off or worried.  it is by far, her strongest language along with chinese.

FLUENT CHINESE — vivian would've been fine with just being fluent in korean and english- unfortunately for her, chinese is her father's favourite language to study and speak. vivian's first word was actually chinese which naturally- sent her mother into a frenzy throwing korean at her while her father did a happy dance. regardless of which, vivian grew up with chinese for a long time and was fluent by the age of nine. it's her strongest language alongside english- and her most favourite language due to it's complexity and the term "cao ni ma" ( read : depending on pronounciation, cao ni ma can either mean mythical grass horse or motherf*cker. easy to understand why vivian loves mandarin. )

ABOVE AVERAGE JAPANESE — being fluent in korean, chinese, and english is one thing. japanese is another whole demon to conquer on it's own. having a hell of a lot complex grammar and alphabets compared to chinese ( japan better discontinue the use of chinese characters- kanji, or so lord help her ) despite that, eight years and two annoying brats name yuta nakamoto and chan hina is more than enough for japanese to rub off on her. it's her fourth strongest language.

BASIC FRENCH — when you've been seeing nothing but characters your entire life- you learn to appreciate the latin alphabet. but also when you're surrounded by people who speak the same language as you- it's pretty hard to swear. vivian was having a great time swearing in french until mark lee and son seungwan came along- and together they forced her to learn french so "you can say you actually know five languages." vivian isn't that bad in french and can hold a conversation with say- cl or jackson. ask her to read a story or watch a movie and she'll need translations herself.

"there goes our resident elsa. god i swear she thinks she's better than everyone else." before you ask- no, vivian is not the third sister of the jungs. although her ice queen facade is incredibly reminscant of them, isn't it? her eight years at sm have taught her not to let her guard down at all; to build a stone wall around your heart. regardless to say- vivian has taken that advice a bit strongly. known to be the ice queen of sm- it's not hard to guess her personality traits. rude and snappish at first- incredibly cold,   bashful and snappy to people whom aren't in her inner circle of friends— she posses a "devil-may-care" attitude. she isn't one to mess around however- as brazen as she is, vivian is quite logical and persevering- she isn't one to skip training classes reguarly and no one's ever seen her smoke or red scars on her wrists.

but the moment you focus a camera on her- the ice melts. vivian choi is known to be the jackson wang of this sm project- it's evident in all the jokes and memes found in the videos and interactions. think jackson wang humour but with more sassiness. to meet vivian is another thing- she's charismatic and won't hesitate to introduce herself, not intimidated by the big name people, unlike most rookies. she may be the y ice queen of sm ent but no one can deny that she's variety show worthy.

to be honest- vivian wasn't always so icy. when there was still a sparkling gleam in her eye and her ten year old self had never known what all nighters for training was- not yet exposed to the toxicness of sm ent- she was happy. being cold and y is her coping method, more like it- and she may had learned that from the original ice queens herself- krystal and jessica jung. vivian is someone who wants people to know- at least assume, that she has her together in life when in reality it is the farthest thing. it's never fun training for one thing in your life; debut— and to be so close to the spotlight, only to have it gone before you could even savour it like red velvet cake. vivian and her grudges have a huge one against park sooyoung- now known as joy of red velvet. she turns even colder and bitter than she was.

×　ANXIETY vivian will admit- she has an anxiety problem. they usually happen at night when her conscious doesn't want to give her a break.  she can't breathe and it feels like something is clawing in her chest and honest to god it is the worst feeling ever. she usually waits until her heart beat returns to normal before throwing a witty remark and pretending the past 7 minutes haven't happened. no one can really calm her out of one before they ended- except for jaehyun. however a lot of people don't believe that her anxiety attacks are true and that she is merely faking them for attention. she doesn't take medication for it as it's not too bad and somewhat managable.

"you don't know what it's like to kill yourself slowly via a method they call training." vivian snarls. the age of ten is not a good age to be introduced to the toxic enviroment that is- sm entertainment. too many people trying to be someone they're not, favouritism, intimidation- hell, vivian would even say bullying. and while that has certainly done nothing but turn vivian into the ice queen that she is- it helped to fuel the flame that was her passion for learning. she put her everything and anything in training— she tried her hardest, unlike some of the former trainees who debuted. look who's receiving hate from the netizens now though.

vivian is still incredibly ing salty about having lost her spot to joy. she doesn't even want to think back to that time when her name was slashed- park sooyoung's was bolded in the final line up sheet for 레드벨벳 . no one could coax her out her room for two weeks. but if anything that only served her to further push herself in unimaginable ways. her grudgeful streak ensured a never ending battle against joy— therefore earning the hatred of joy herself ( it's mutual ) and her loyal followers.

jung jaehyun is a carbon copy of vivian- charismatic but neurotic and an extreme perfectionist- while he doesn't posses a severe ice queen facade and isn't as rude as his counterpart ( yet they possess the same tsundere like qualities- perhaps that's why they're perfect for each other). quite the opposite actually- incredibly polite and reserved on screen.

stick him in a room full of his friends that's he's quite close with ( sm rookies ) and he turns into yunoh again. human. with flaws. he turns incredibly clingy and loud and practically that one kid in your classroom who everyone both hates because he's annoying but loves because he's incredibly funny and tasteful. 

 

"does she know him or something? she keeps looking at him like that." joy remarks, a tone of jealousy embedded. "psh- the girl who's been training for eight years? vivian? with jaehyun- that's so funny." a trainee laughs. one doesn't associate golden boy jung jaehyun with vivian. they're not supposed to know each other at all- they're not supposed to know anything about each other at all. "he's too perfect for her." another trainee chimes in. so why is it that out of all the pretty trainees that surround jaehyun on a daily basis- he only ever looks at her?

vivian can't help but laugh everytime she hears another one of those comments that question her and jaehyun- smiles when they insist that there's no way jaehyun can know reject vivian. full out chesire cat smiles when they question themselves because out of all the girls there- jaehyun only ever smiles at her. it's not that hard once you understand the long history of the jungs and the chois- best friends since college- both familes are incredibly close. 

"seokyung, go play with yunoh over there. he's your age, he can speak english, be nice." with a gentle but firm push on the back, an eight year old vivian gingerly walked towards the young boy playing with the legos. it was maybe because history liked to repeat itself that jaehyun and vivian became best friends like their dads. it's also not coincidental that vivian's ideal type is her best friend.

yunoh- or jaehyun as he wants to be called- becomes a fixed prescence in her life. she's so used to him barging through their house door and her bed room without an invitation and vice versa— stealing from her food, drinking from the same bottle amongst other things. their parents joked that they were twins separated at birth. so when they discovered that their children could sing and dance really well— it did nothing but help increase the twin jokes. more so when jaehyun happens to be accepted into the same agency and school as vivian.

but do twins/best friends look at each other the way they do? can they just stare intently at each other, and understand what each other is thinking as if telepathy existed? can best friends touch each other comfortably? no. they don't. which is probably why vivian and jaehyun really, aren't best friends. they dance across the boundaries of being something more and best friends and it's so ing tiring honestly. 

they understand each othe more than anyone else having grown up side by side each other. they say there's no one who knows you better than yourself- vivian and jaehyun are a walking contradiction of that. and besides, what brings best friends together? they think alike, walk alike, talk alike- hell, vivian can and will openly wear his shirts because they're nice and comfy and they smell like him. they also love to bother each other with friendly banter only to later sleep soundly in each other's arms- dancing between all boundaries.

"we're just best friends." vivian lies through her theeth. both of them are holding back for so many reasons— scared that they don't reoprciate each other's feelings (lies), the netizens, and sm entertainment. the idea that you can love someone at this age- true love- is a notion scoffed by many. but it's the truth— they do love each other, the type to keep people together until their last breath.
