Translating fanfics (sorry, i got mad)

(first of all, it's not about my story, it's about fanfics in general)

I'm one of those people who only read in english, but let's face the reality that not everyone can understand english. It's okay. They can only read fanfictions by foreign authors if someone translates them. It's okay. Translating is a good thing but

not

without

asking

for

permission.

Recently, a few popular works had been translated into my native language (I'm not telling you the fandom, or the title or anything) and the girl who translated it was really... suspicious. A friend of mine kindly asked her if she had asked for permission from the original author because not all authors like if people translate their works. And here came the problem. The girl said, that she stated it was not her story and linked the original story in the description so SHE DOESN'T THINK SHE NEEDS PERMISSION TO TRANSLATE. What really pissed me off was when she said that if an author doesn't want his/her fanfic translated then THEY SHOULDN'T PUBLISH THEIR STORIES. And that she doesn't care if the author likes her stories being translated or not.

Like WTF GIRL, how can somebody be that ignorant????

As an author, I would have absolutely nothign against people wanting to translate my stories, I think it's a good thing that they want to share it with those who can't speak english but
1. ASK. FOR. PERMISSION. a simple message like "hey dude, i like your story and want to translate it, ok?" won't hurt anybody :)))
2. some authors HATE it, and us, readers, should ing respect it

I think I can totally understand those who delete their stories because of this. People can be really rude and ignorant.
We should respect others' hard work.

I agree with your opinion. Writing a story is a pretty hard work, it costs an author's time and energy. So, people whom want to be recognized for other's hard work should shows some respect by asking their permission.
