NCT, something we should know

okay, i was browsing through YouTube to find some FMV (istg there are some very good video editors out there!), and then saw the notification neside SM"s channel.

BOOM.

i entered into a completely business-oriented world. You guys HAVE to watch it if you want to know how the K-Pop market works. (well, not the New Culture Technology part but the four stages are applicable to every Ent., out there!)

So, SM's gonna debut an 'infinite' numbered boy group called NCT, which might be SM's last boy group ever because when the members are limitless, why need another group.

SM is aiming to create a virtual SM world which might dominate every other K-Pop industry ever made. they are going to have apps by SM, influencing SM into the K-Pop fans daily lives. You get to sing along (everysing), make videos (everyshot) and share a common SNS (Vyrl) [<--is this even SM's? idk].

i know SM is pretty old for an Entertainment group (TWENTY ONE YEARS FTW), but for then to have K-Pop globalized as this with them being the only platform... i'm afraid that they'll push down other deserving debutants who might not even be known anymore.

i just hope this doesn't happen.

P.S: i was just so afraid when the boys came to perform i was like *shudder-shudder*. literally.

Honestly this would be the fall of kpop. What's the point? There's no need for an infinite amount of members. That would be too many. Then again SM just cares about profit.

I was so fricking angry when I found out about NCT lol SM does not know where to stop. Yes, of course, their past risks have all proven to be extreme,y successful, but those risks were taken based off of well researched opinions from the general public. This scheme is not going to work at all- In that it won't be well received by a large group of people, which is evident from the newest reactions pertaining to NCT. Nobody likes a fluctuating group. That's why After School is not able to garner enough support/revenue-yes, they do have a modicum of a fan base, but nothing substantial at all, and after School was and is generally a flop of an investment. Another wrong idea pertaining to Afrer School was their extensive promotion in foreign countries like China. They weren't able to maintain a stable fan base with both fluctuating members and fluctuating areas of promotion-without having established a good hold on Korea itself, they went on to promote elsewhere and were not successful. Of course, notwithstanding, After School is also a pretty big band, but nothing compared to what it was envisioned to be, and definitely nothing sustainable. Pled is has suffered a lot having invested too much in something that could not earn back the necessary revenue. And it looks like SM is making the same rookie mistake smh kpop should stay in Korea-at least, its main stronghold must be in Korea. It can't be some flimsy, vague rubber band that stretches across and to different countries. Moreover, it has been proven time and again that Western-country specific promotions are always failures. Even CL did not do well. Again, kpop should stay in KOREA, and the clearly southeast Asian countries it associates itself with.Aside from that, I definitely don't think SM will be able to manage promoting across the world. It's not feasible, and with SM's somewhat worrisome and undesirable ways of operating, they won't be able to maintain it without garnering too many problems.

I'm not sure about this either. It feels a bit like selling kpop out to the world instead of promoting it. I wonder what will happen to the actual kpop-groups who still sing in Korean.
I'd really hate to see kpop becoming just another genre also sung in English. A big part of the charme of kpop to me is the language. If you really need to understand the lyrics entirely just look for translations, don't make them sing in a language they don't know well enough.

SM has been and still is a well equipped company and I'm not even talking about their artists. They have the staff and the facilities to train and educate talented youngsters into top idols. But shouldn't they do that for their own culture in the first place? I don't mind them accepting trainees from other countries and it's certainly good promotion to have group-members who speak foreign languages. But when Korean members become a minority within the groups to me it's not really kpop anymore.

Those SM rookies promotion videos for Bangkok almost made me angry. Making fun of Ji Sung who looks like he doesn't understand a word of what the others are saying in English. Maybe I'm biased but I really want kpop to stay Korean.

And then of course there is the question what chances will "traditional" kpop groups have on the international market if their own companies swamp the world with artists who promote a watered down sub-genre in whatever language is required?

I for sure will stick with the Korean groups. It's a small country but they have a lot to offer. Why not givie them a chance to bring a piece of it to the world?
