gyeon siyoon was born in iksan, north jeolla province, south korea. she came into the family as the second oldest out of four siblings with an older half-sister and two younger twin brothers, with whom she shared an of eight and five years, respectively. her father worked as a restaurant manager while her mother was a licensed hairstylist and later a teacher. she lived the typical life of a middle class family. she had whatever she needed, but there was also no room for much frivolous spending, an attitude that has stuck with her since. growing up, she had a lot of internal energy, which she fueled towards her interests: science and reading. because her sister moved out of the house when she was young, she was early to take charge in the household alongside her mother, which included taking care of her brothers and making meals.

in her second year of high school, siyoon decided to do the unthinkable and take a step into the unknown by applying for a spot on a student exchange program in the historic city of york, england. she ended up falling for the walled city the moment she set foot there, and was really contemplating whether or not she wanted to study there too, but a combination of severe homesickness and a feeling of not being ready for the world just yet made her decide to apply somewhere a little closer to home. she ended up at chung-ang university in seoul, where she studied at the college of pharmacy and graduated in 2011 with a masters degree up her sleeve.

siyoon is currently situated in buncheon, gyeonggi province, south korea. she lives in a one-bedroom apartment with her boyfriend of three years, lee donghae, and their pet dog, a yorkshire terrier named mireuk (after the patron mountain for iksan, siyoon's place of birth). the apartment has a fairly simple layout: a short hallway leading into a combined kitchen and living room, and the bedroom and bathroom located on the right end of the apartment on either side of a second, much smaller hallway (which also contains a little reading nook).

on a normal week day, it starts by the couple being woken up by mireuk, who is interested in taking a morning walk. they switch between who takes her out unless one of them is late, and the other gets to occupy the bathroom in the meantime. after a bit of morning wandering, it's time to breakfast, which is usually a simple korean breakfast or something quick like cereal or toast. then it is time for work. whoever is the last to leave (which is usually her) gets to take out the trash. her hours vary a lot, and she often works every other weekend or so too. donghae works as a elementary school music teacher, so his hours are more set, so he is often home when she is unless something special happens.

when siyoon doesn't work, there are a few routines that she tends to follow. while not being religious person herself, she does go to church with donghae on most sundays as she still identifies as a christian. other than that, she likes going to museums or coffee shops with friends, visiting family, stream movies online and do little romantic gestures for her boyfriend to show her affection for him (as actions speak louder than words to her), such as making dinner and spending time with him outside the apartment like on walks with mireuk.

trivia.
— siyoon speaks with a jeolla dialect, which gets more apparent if she is drunk or excited about something.
— people often believe her to be older than she is; mostly due to her mature appearance and calm nature.
— studied pharmacy at chung-ang university in seoul.
— allergic to mushrooms.
— she is a devout coffee drinker.
— horrible at reading the atmosphere and people in general.
— dominantly left-handed, but right-footed due to gym class and being oblivious to her own handedness until late in middle school.
— knows the entire periodic table and can recite it from memory.
— she has two major sleeping habits: sleep-walking from her bed to some other spot like the bathroom or living room, and sleep-talking (which normally involves her reciting movie quotes or verifying fictional prescriptions).
— has a nervous habit of shaking her leg when she is feeling restless. she also on her bottom lip when she is in deep thought or upset. to calm herself down during stressful times, she tends to count backwards, the number depending on the level of stress (ten for mild, fifty for medium and two-hundred for intense).

relationships
— gyeon kwangseon // 63 // father // siyoon's father was the kind that worked a lot of the time because of his position as a restaurant manager. this is something that siyoon has later come to respect, and their relationship has only improved over the years. like his daughter, he is patient and a good listener, always there if she is in trouble.

— myung sejin // 58 // mother // her mother was always more involved during her childhood years, and it was with her that she formed the deepest bond, but also with her that she had her biggest fights as a teenager. siyoon looks up to her mother like she is the sky, who is in turn very proud of her daughter. her mother is always the one wondering when the proposal will come as siyoon is nearing her thirtieth birthday. cue, extreme embarrassment from siyoon's side.

— gyeon seoyoon // 36 // half-sister // siyoon and seoyoon did not have a close relationship growing up because of their . her sister would always find her younger siblings a pain in the back, especially after the rambunctious brothers arrived. their relationship has improved drastically as siyoon matured and grew out of her "annoying sister phase" and seoyoon gained more understanding of the world and the meaning of responsibility. they don't meet too often, but get along quite well in each other's company.

— gyeon jaegeun & soogeun // 24 // brothers // both of them looked up to siyoon as children and would often ask her for help with work, sometimes before asking their parents. the boys were very wild in their youth, but have grown out of it (at least in civilized settings). soogeun, the younger of the two, is definitely the one with the closest relationship with siyoon just because he was always a little more sane than his twin brother, but not by much, honestly. jaegeun teases his sister more out of the two, but siyoon ignores it mostly because she knows it is in good nature.

— lee donghae // 29 // boyfriend // donghae and siyoon have a good relationship with one another. both are patient and honest people, so there aren't a lot of fights between them. donghae is romantic enough for both of them, but he really appreciates his girlfriends effort to take more of the initiative. it can be tough because siyoon isn't good at expressing her own feelings, which can lead to some communication issues and donghae getting hurt by some of her comments.

— mireuk // 2 // pet // mireuk is good at bringing siyoon's energetic side out more often. while she was originally donghae's idea, who is in love with yorkshire terriers, she was quick to find her way into siyoon's heart as well. for a dog, mireuk's rather intelligent, something siyoon can always appreciate.

others. her impressions of the other jurors are made quickly, but will most likely change over time depending on their personalities and relationship to her. one thing to note, though, is that she has little patience for those who don't think things through properly or do their work as they should.

strengths. siyoon tends to be very even-tempered unless the stress levels are high, and she is able to act with a cool head and a rational mind most of the time. she makes her mind based on logic and isn't one to be convinced by circumstantial evidence. she is also very analytical and is good at studying the details, often able to notice what most would likely miss. her work as a pharmacist means she is very knowledgeable about medications (in case it comes up in trial, it could be useful) and their uses. she isn't one to be blinded by feelings and sees the case in a very objective light.
weaknesses. like it was mentioned earlier, siyoon is horrible at reading the atmosphere and can misread a situation completely. she also tends to not see the whole picture and focus a little too much on the details, which may cause her to miss out on something that other jurors will see. she doesn't like conflict and will shy away from it at any given time. and once she's made up her mind about something, it can be hard for others to change it, much to the chagrin of the jurors that wish to have her on their side in the argument. (though it can be changed if they have sensible reason and evidence to support their claim)

comments. i have never applied to an apply fic focusing around the law. it's definitely something new and interesting on my end! this is perhaps also the oldest character i have ever applied with. it was fun to try something new. i used your character idea #7 because that looked interesting to me. in advance, i apologize if there are any grammatical errors in there. i try to check everything, but there is often times where i miss something as english is not my native language.
suggestions. it is brought up that one of the victims was drugged at the time of the murder, and some of the information seems peculiar to siyoon as it can't seem to match the rest (i.e. not high enough dose, odd choice of drug, etc.). // it is discovered that one of the victims went to school with her brothers, who are very clearly upset about the case. this causes her to (perhaps?) have some personal second thoughts.
