Dear Writers, Please STOP COPYING/PLAGIARIZING

Good days. It has been months since the last time I actually came to the site.
First of all, I'm so sorry for not updating any of the stories of mine ever since the time. I just... I don't know, haven't gotten the right mood just yet.

Now secondly, going to the purpose of this blog, I'd like to ask everyone to stop copying and/or plagiarizing anyone's work; be it another fanfiction, or worse, other's published works which have been copyrighted. Even if you've put a DISCLAIMER that all the rights goes to blahblahblah in a big red and bold font, please don't. If you're happened to have posted it already, please take it down like, right now. And if you're happened to not write any but stumble upon it, please tell the author to do so- or if they still don't want to take it down, report it right away. Asianfanfics has the rules, and even if we all know sometimes there're people breaking the rules, that doesn't mean the rules became void. That doesn't mean it's alright to do so. And according to the Terms of Use - How to Get Banned, the number 1 is: Plagiarize a copyrighted work.

So. Why did I voice out my opinion and stance all of sudden, after all this time?

It's merely because I stumbled upon a post which someone shared on facebook. This acquintance of mine happened to follow an M/M indie author, and from the post she shared, this author said that her works (not just one but three of hers) were copied by someone from asianfanfics words by words. They were eunhae fanfics- and the fics have been removed along with the account (have been banned, I mean) by now. I see that the fanfic writer has stated on her foreword, that she was changing the names to eunhae for entertainment purpose and all the rights go to the author and so on. But then, what? It is still the fact, that she was copying the other's works without permission- and words by words. And while the original author has set her price for the story she has been writing for so long (doesn't make it's okay if it's free, by the way), there're people who could read the exactly same story for free here. Of course. I could understand why she's upset upon the matter, despite all the credits the fanfic writer has stated. Why wouldn't she, after all?

And it's not done; not just like that. Unfortunately.

Even though Asianfanfics has reacted and immediately removed all the contents (both of account and fanfictions), I believe the damage has been done. The original author didn't want it to just end like this. She escalated it to the worse level. On the post my acquintance shared, the author stated firmly that "sites like this need to be SHUT DOWN"; that "My goal today is to have this website shut down.", which followed with the agreement coming from her (probably) readers and friends. Sounded like an empty threat? I know. Even one of the comments on the post has also said that no matter what they can't win because it's one against many. And I do think so; it's not going to be as easy as 1-2-3 to shut the site as big as Asianfanfics down because of one post.

So, what's the issue?

The issue is (at least for me), that when we're all ignoring such rules and cases happened here, the outside world doesn't. After all, in the post she has also said that "This isn't the first time, of course. And I am not the first author that this has happened to on this particular site.". The outside world also do aware that their works sometimes getting plagiarized, quoting what she said once again, on this particular site. I'm not sure either, whether it's possible or not for those people to finally shut the site down due to this matter. But there's one thing I know; that Asianfanfics will definitely have a bad reputation outside if this keeps happening. One of the author has even asked a question like "Is it a pirating site?" regarding the plagiarism matter. That's the actual issue of mine.

Well maybe some will say that it doesn't really matter what the others say about Asianfanfics; as long as we know the real value of this site for us. But to be honest, doesn't it matter for any of us too; even just for a tiny bit? I might not know about the others- about you, but Asianfanfics is where I started my journal for fanfictions. It is where for the first time I found many good fanfics and wonderful authors- even though now I rarely read any lately. It is where for the first time I talked and been friends with the others; be it the fellow fans of TVXQ/JYJ/any members, or even the most unrelated ones. It is truly the start of everything for me. Asianfanfics is valued as much for me.

And even if no one from my real life knows for sure that I write things here, I never intended either to hide it. They just didn't ask, and I just never told any of them. So when the time comes to tell someone about this- that I write things on Asianfanfics, I don't want to do it shamefuly because the reputation of this site isn't as good. I don't want anyone to think something like "Oh, you wrote on that pirating site? Whose works did you copy? Lucky you that no one knew you're plagiarizing something." when I tell people about this. That doesn't feel good and right at all. And when the damage has been made that far, it is already pointless to explain that Asianfanfics isn't that kind of site.

If it sounded like it's just about me, well it is about me too- one way or the other. But it's never just. It's always about Asianfanfics and the friends here. Because you're valuable for me, that's why I decided to write this blog. Because it isn't nice if someone is going to stain the good memories here out.

So once again, let's stop copying or plagiarizing someone else's works.
Write your fanfictions by yourself. Or if you think the original story of someone is good, then recommend it to the others instead of rewriting it exactly the same; you can even tell them to imagine that A is Yunho and B is Jaejoong, or something like that. And even if you really-really have the urge to rewrite it, DON'T. Or ask the permission of the original author first then (though I doubt there'll be someone agree with that). Well, that's all.

Regards,
5starssupporter

PS. This isn't directly aimed to the authors who write the original stories instead of copying those. It's just that- by any chance, who knows this could be useful (?).

PPS. Pardon me for this long post instead updating the fics.

I totally agree with you. There's no need to copy someone else's work,I lose sleep over plotting, creating characters, creating back stories etc. It's not fair to writers who lose sleep just to get a chapter done. Simply write your own stuff.

I tally share your opinion! When I first started reading fictions I found one that was very long and well written and some days after I found another one, with a different title and much shorter, that was exactly the same, but I wasn't aware of the rules and how to report it. When I found out about it I tried looking for that fiction to report it, but I wasn't able to find it...I still feel guilty about it, even if the fact that I couldn't find it probably means that it was reported by somebody else.
