: WOOKYUNG IN A NUTSHELL - AKA AN INSIDE LOOK TO PD-NIM'S BLOCKHEAD
wookyung is a very bright and cheerful person that's very straightforward and can come across as naive or just plain ing odd when it comes to certain social situations. especially since wookyung isn't afraid to do things slightly different to the norm, like playing the drums over other instruments like violin or piano or how he approaches and chases after those he likes... or the time where he had seen nakahara-sensei , only to tell her that he'd get too becuase it would mean their even. so wookyung is definitely an oddball that only follows social norms a part of the time.
he falls for people relatively fast and he makes friends quite easily with how optimistic and kind he is. but not many know the real him... sure, many seem to think that he's a bit stupid since he doesn't come across as a studious individual and some of the stuff that he says makes people think that he's more than a bit weird, but he's a nice enough guy that smiles a lot and seems to have a lot of fun. some wouldn't say he's exactly energizer bunny status with how lively he can be, but he seems to have more energy than most. very sociable and outgoing since he likes to talk a lot and surround himself with others... he's very animated and it always seems like he's giving a thousand things away when it comes to himself, when that's actually not always the case. because as much as he can essentially hold a conversation to himself or siddle up to someone and become friends or at least acquaintances within seconds, most just see wookyung as a very happy, go-lucky guy without a lot of worries... and even then, if he did have worries, it seems as if he knows how to deal with them and is able to get past them relatively easily. like he's the guy that people envy because it seems like nothing can get him down and while some will chalk that up to idiocy and him just being naive about the world, wookyung's not that stupid. he just deals with things differently and as much as he's friendly, he truly doesn't have the type of friends that he's able to talk to about his problems.
because underneath the cheeriness and liveliness that he presents, he does have his own set of worries and negative emotions that affect him. but most don't see that since wookyung usually tries to hide those parts of himself. whether it's from trying to run from his feelings, trying to make others happy so others don't see how much he's hurting, or just giving up in the sense that people want to see what they want to see, so might as well give them what they think they're seeing, wookyung isn't as shallow as some make him out to be. wookyung may seem a bit childish and immature at times with how he constantly talks about things like romance dramas, gushing about the romance in them and how it makes his heart flutter, or how he'll never find someone like insung and that's why he's not giving up, but wookyung has a lot more going for him than what he shows most people.
he's actually quite book smart if one actually tried to see past the excessive talk about his hyung. he also doesn't always believe in happy endings, even if he convinces himself that they actually exist and tries to vicariously live his way through dramas whenever his real life romance isn't up to par. and he's quite loyal and kind to those that he loves, seeing the best in them, even if they don't always want to see that themselves. wookyung's a good guy, but he can be a little too much for some and while all he really needs to do is calm down a little bit and stop hiding behind the smiles, it's going to take a while for him to mature to do something like that.

how his professor's see him: a bright student that will go far if he works for it.
how his schoolmates see him: guy's a bit weird, but he has a nice, warm smile, so he's not that bad.
how his bandmates see him: ranges from annoying to he seems like a good kid with a kind heart to when is he going to get over that crush of his, he's just hurting himself in the long run.

how his haters see him: he doesn't drum as well as he thinks he does, he's not as cute as people like to make him out to be, his body is atrocious - like does he even eat or work out?, his singing is so why even bother, etc...

BACKGROUND.
: THE WHO THE CARES ABOUT THESE YEARS - AGE 0 to 17
wookyung was born and raised in iksan - aka the town where jewels are created - but also the town where wookyung essentially did nothing but grow up, learn the drums, and make it through school. all the while listening to his mother either be upset about his choices in music, afraid that she wouldn't get to brag about him, or begrudgingly and eventually support him once awards and money were involved. becuase once that happened, then all she had wanted to do was annoy the neighbors with 'my son won this award with his drumming' and/or 'my son won this amount of money this past weekend' and on and on it had went, even when he had played a little less in high school. but as much as his mother had went from being dissatisfied about his drumming to actually being okay with it throughout the years, she was a good mother. she had just wanted to make sure that he had options and that he was doing things that could help him later in life. but despite the drumming, wookyung had always been a good kid that while a tad naive in the social department, he had always been a bit smart. even people like to think of him as an idiot - but once they'd see his test scores, it was obviously not the case, unless you count the few that would say he cheated. but wookyung had always been good at school and while he did well in music, he had never given his family problems at school.
however, despite being a reasonable child, wookyung still couldn't help but be a little scared about his uality and how his family would take it. but not the type that liked to lie, especially when it came to his parents, wookyung eventually told his mother and father that he had liked guys, as well as girls - but liked guys a bit more than girls. and as much as wookyung was afraid of his mother throwing a fit, she had been okay with it (of course she had been surprised and was afraid of people looking at her child the wrong way if they found out about him, but she couldn't just not accept him and hurt him worse. and if people disliked her son for being bi, then at least he would have family behind him.)... though, what she wasn't okay with was him going to seoul and falling for some older man that was most likely going to hurt her son because her son could be a naive idiot at times.
while his father, as quiet and serious as he is, was a good father and he was often around for his family as well and he ha supported his son in everything that he had done and had wanted to do. so as much as wookyung was afraid of telling him, he really shouldn't have been. because, when wookyung came to him with tears in his eyes, expecting to be kicked out for liking guys (sometimes people changed when it came to stuff like that, so the fear of being kicked out had been a very valid fear at the time), all the man could do was laugh and tell him that he already known and didn't care. wookyung wasn't exactly subtle when it came to checking people out, never mind how easy it was to tell whenever the other had a crush - wookyung had liked his forth grade teacher a little too much and then there was the time where wookyung couldn't stop staring at one of the interns that had worked with his father - it was pretty obvious to where his son's tastes lied.
so overall, his parents had been supportive about most things and wookyung grew up in a relatively loving environment. and due to him not having any brothers and sisters, he was somewhat spoiled by both of his parents. especially since his family was a rather small one and the only one outside of his mother and father was his grandma. who wasn't the greatest of role models, but who needed role models when your grandma rode motorcycles, ate whatever she wanted whenever she wated, and didn't really care how people were and what they did, as long as they weren't hurting anyone. wookyung loved her and while she's not as young as she used to be, she's still kicking and the two correspond via letters while wookyung's in tokyo.
: MEETING INSUNG-HYUNG AND FINDING OUT ABOUT SEOUL HERO YEARS - AGE 17 - PRESENT
moving out to go to seoul to study physics, something of which wookyung had always had a knack for, wookyung hadn't expected to fall for someone like insung-hyung, but with the meeting that they had, it was probably inevitable. because as much as it was completely coincidence that their paths had crossed that one day in the coffee shop, insung-hyung running into him, causing him to spill his coffee and food - never mind ruining his books since his coffee had splashed all over his things, the older man had felt bad enough to actually apologize and give him enough money to buy a new drink, a muffin, and new books to replace the old ones... a gesture that wookyung appreciated, especially since all those dramas that he liked to watch usually had men like insung doing the opposite. so he couldn't help but think the other hand been cool to help him out like that.
however, if wasn't until the two kept on meeting at the same coffee shop a couple of more times did wookyung's crush for him grow. especially since insung looked so cool as he drank his coffee and relaxed by the window, interested in people watching for a couple of minutes before he'd need to leave. wookyung usually took to doing his homework at the cofee shop in hopes of seeing him more and more. and by the time that he was full-blown in love with the guy, idolizing him, wookyung had kind of started following the guy around, unable to stop himself from constantly trying to ask him out on a date whenever the other would have some free time. only for insung to tell him how they weren't compatible, that he was annoying, and that their age difference would just make it impossible for them to work... wookyung wasn't satisfied with those answers, especially since insung always worded things in a way that it kept giving him hope later on. so wookyung couldn't help but keep his crush alive.
so for about three years wookyung chased after insung, hoping he'd one day say yes... and when you literally chase someone for three years, you learn quite a bit about the other person. things one wouldn't always expect to learn and with the way wookyung was like a sponge when it came to insung, he knew a lot about the other. he knews his likes, he knew parts of his job, he even knew when the other had dated - which hurt, but as long as he could win the war, then every battle up to it didn't matter. so it didn't take much for wookyung to know that insung was eventually fired from his job and the following events that happened afterwards with seoul hero.

: STRESS MANAGEMENT 101 whenever wookyung's down or angry or is dealing with negative emotions, he usually throws some headphones on, turns on his mp3 player to tune into his playlist of songs with challenging drum sections, grabs a set of sticks and plays the drums until he's sweating so much his shirt's soaked through and he can deal with things again... however, due to noise complaints, he's been forced to use an electronic kit to keep the noise down - it's nowhere near as satisfying as being able to beat away at the non-electric set.
: IT'S SIMPLE PHYSICS... OR IS IT? a third year physics major that is deciding between quantum physics or astrophysics - both of which he thinks are beyond interesting, wookyung is one smart dude. especially since he's going through some of his classes with relative ease and while he does have to study sometimes, he gets most topics with one or two reads and will occasionally need a professor's help to clarify some things for him. however, despite getting most things within a small amount of time, wookyung reads a lot of different texts and articles related to his interests. so as much as some think he's a bit of an idiot, especially since he spends a lot of time talking about how cool his hyung is, wookyung is a lot smarter than most give him credit for. but since most usually don't always have much knowledge on his interests, wookyung doesn't go out of the way to show people that, especially since most would get bored of what he's talking about or may find it interesting for a few minutes, but find themselves getting distracted by something else. so why spend much time talking to others about your interestings when no one's going to listen or listen well. so it's better for people to think he's dumb and that the only interests he has are insung, dramas, and music.
: CLASSIC ROCK... IT'S NOT THAT POPULAR THESE DAYS wookyung's always been into groups like led zeppelin, rush, heart, joan jett, and groups like genesis, even if genesis eventually went a more pop route, but phil collins had been a great drummer and wookyung listened to a lot of groups that had good drummers. and while he does listen to some newer groups, his mp3 player is filled with stuff from the 70's and 80's from countries like the us and great britain.
: WOOKYUNG MAY BE FILLED WITH CHEESE, BUT HE'S STILL LACTOSE INTOLERANT wookyung cannot eat dairy products like milk and cheese without getting sick and the otc pills do nothing but make things worse, so wookyung refrains from eating those things. even if ice cream looks and tastes good, but only makes him feel like later on. he usually eats a lot of soy-based or fake products to fill the void of not being able to eat cheese and the like.
: LOVE EXPERIENCE - 0; VICARIOUSLY LIVING HIS LIFE THROUGH ROMANCE DRAMAS - 1 when he's not doing his homework, going to classes, practicing his drumming and whatnot, wookyung loves to watch k-dramas, especially romance based ones. romcoms are usually his favorite, but he has a soft spot for historical ones as well... there's just something nice about them that he can't help but watch them week after week. sometimes he'll watch some crime/hospital based ones, but only if the actors are good and there's kind of a love-line going on between some of the characters. the only drama he wasn't into was boy's over flowers... but he has the taiwanese version to make up for the crappy korean one.
: ENERGY DRINKS AKA CRACK wookyung usually drinks a lot of caffeinated beverages and is prone to drinking too many of them. especially when he's super busy and has to lose sleep because of the schedules that he sometimes carries with school and whatnot. so it's quite often that one will see the guy with some type of drink that has loads of b-vitamins and caffeine. he also really enjoys coffee drinks as well, but he likes the sugary ones the most and won't drink regular coffee unless it has at least three tablespoons of sugar. he will probably give himself a heart attack to be honest with the way he consumes these types of drinks.

: NEIL PEART, EAT YOUR HEART OUT when wookyung had started playing the drums, it was at the assistance of his mother since she had wanted him to learn an instrument... most likely for college and bragging purposes since that's what all the neighbors did. however, when her son had chosen to play the drums over something like the piano and violin, wookyung's mother could only give a small and somewhat choked smile to her son... but that was after the five hours she had spent trying to get him to pick a different instrument to play, while wookyung insisted and had put his foot down when it had came to wanting to play the drums. especially since the drumsticks had felt right in his hands, almost as if they were telling him to play them over everything else in the store. and as soon as the music attendant had let him listen to a few drum solos, wookyung couldn't help but want to play the drums even more. plus, it gave him a way to beat at something without having any repercussions for doing so, unless you counted the future headaches that he had given everyone in the neighborhood for the next ten years. so as much as wookyung's mother had tried to convince her son out of the whole drumming thing and she had definitely tried harder than what most mothers would have done, because as much as she had given him grief for five hours at the store, she had given him even more grief for the next two years as well, trying to get him to quit and play something else.
but wookyung had stuck it out, especially since he enjoyed the lessons and had found the drums to be quite fun. but luckily, once middle school had hit, he had started joining different contests and actually winning some awards for his drumming that his mother couldn't fault him for his unorthodox tastes in instruments anymore. because at that point, he wasn't just a kid wasting his potential at the drums, but was a kid that was winning trophies and money for it - which was much better than the neighborhood parents that had to see their kids fail whenever they had joined one of the various classical music contests within the area... sure, they still gave her the 'but drums are easier than other instruments' excuses, but her son was still winning, while their's were losing, so why listen to butthurt parents that were just upset at the fact that their kids weren't as good as they had wanted them to be. so after that point, she had encouraged him to play a lot more, effectively leaving him to his own devices, which wookyung was grateful for.
by high school, wookyung had found himself playing a lot less than what he was used to doing up until that point, participating in less contests and just finding more and more of his time being influenced by the need to study for school, his focus had definitely shifted. and it wasn't until he had left for seoul, where he had finished his final year of high school and had started college as a physics major, where it wasn't long before he had found another reason to play a lot more again - the reason being insung-hyung. the man he had fallen for within minutes of meeting before he had decided that he had wanted to win the other's heart and had found himself chasing the other, trying to get the other to say yes to going on a date with him... only to be met with 'rejection' every time. but he eventually found out a year or so later on the internet that the older man was holding auditions to create a new 'idol' group. wookyung couldn't help but take up the offer and show off his skills and eventually convince the other that he wasn't just a kid. because if he had become the drummer, than that made it easier for him to show insung that he could be mature and someone that was worthy to be his boyfriend.

easy to pick up and learn, especially without going to lessons, wookyung had taught himself as soon as he had gotten wind of the possibility of insung-hyung trying to start a band only for a couple of weeks to pass before a notice was put up about auditions being a couple of weeks away. so spending all of his free time teaching himself the basics and a couple of songs that he could play along with music - wookyung only had about a month and half-worth of experience when he had auditioned. and while he wasn't the best, he had made sure he was the best at the songs that he could do and basically fake the rest at auditions and just fix whatever he had needed to fix when he would get chosen. so he eventually learned how to play the bass well, but it had taken him a couple of weeks after getting selected to be able to play the bass well enough to practice on his own with the songs they received before practicing with the group. so despite his lack of experience, he made up for it with the amount of practicing he did since more often than not, he'd forego sleep and allow his grades to drop a letter or two... which meant, instead of the shoe-ins for a's he'd be getting, he'd be getting b's for some of the harder classes. plus, it was interesting to find that one could live off of 4 hours of sleep and still be functional, especially if one took energy drinks/supplements.

"i don't know what kind of question is that and i don't know why i should answer you, especially since you seem to not believe in hyung... never mind how i usually don't try to toot my own horn too much, even though my mom would like to tell me how i should do it more often and be less humble - but if i'm going to impress you, never mind hyung, i can do a lot better than play with my eyes closed... there are reasons for why i've won awards for my drumming and instead of asking me a question like that, how about i just show you may skills?" wookyung gives with narrowed eyes, staring down the girl in front of him, before he hears a soft grunt from his hyung, obviously telling him to calm down, that wookyung can only oblige. but not before taking out a set of sticks, and giving, "just listen and see for yourself." cue impromptu drum solo that wows the two, even if the girl is begrudgingly accepting his skills, while insung's surprised by how good the guy is. especially since he's probably the best drummer they've seen that day.
"OH, THAT'S RIGHT, I TOTALLY FORGOT. CAN YOU EVEN SING? I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN, BUT HOW WELL?"
stopping his drumming, only to give a somewhat sheepish smile, eyes crinkling at the corners but still doing his best to be confident, "i - uh, i'm o-okay? i think i can hold a tune pretty well, but drumming is more of my strong suit... but i won't let either of you down with my skills. i may not be as good as some, but i can hold my own i believe... at least i won't make a fool of hyung that is, especially since i have potential dates at risk." turning to insung-hyung, batting his eyelashes as he did so, "you'd reward with me with dates if i impress you, right? you'd finally give me a chance?" i feel a little sick watching this... how can one guy like pd-nim so much?
"WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?" "PD-NIM, DOES THAT MATTER?" "SHH, JUNKO. LET THIS BLOCKHEAD ANSWER THE QUESTION."
"hyung, rock music of course. especially the old stuff like rush, genesis, led zeppelin... the classics you know?"

face completely serious with no hint of jokes or him trying to with them, he gives, "becoming insung-hyung's lover... he's in trouble and i want to do all that i can to help. and i'm really good with the drums and you need someone like that... " only for him to suddenly avert his eyes a little bit at the thought that suddenly crosses his mind - a thought that he usually doesn't think about too often and if he does, he drums until it's gone, "and it's not like i have a lot of goals in the first place, i only play because i like it... i only win awards because i thought the competition would be fun... eventually i started doing it because it had made my mother happy and actually take some of my interests seriously... i love her a lot, but i'm not going to say it didn't hurt when she had kept on telling me that the drums weren't an instrument and that they were just sticks that one used to create noise."
"WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU? YEAH, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS QUESTION MEANS EITHER. PD-NIM WANTS TO KNOW."
"music makes things bearable, it helps ease people's pain, it makes one happy... it means a lot of things." blushing a bit at his answer, especially at the look that he sees go across insung-hyung's face, wookyung can't help but feel self-conscious about his answer, "it's my friend, my confidant when i have not one else." that's one of the most intelligent things that he's said all day if - didn't even mention pd-nim.

finally finished and i hope everything actually reads well and doesn't sound stupid, because i can't write upbeat characters for crap. so if my humor falls flat, that's why. but for some extra info on wookyung, i definitely see him as the guy that has a lot of 'friends' and he's able to talk to others quite easily since he has a bright personality, but i don't really see him as the type of guy that has a lot of 'true friends/bffs.' unless you count music/his drums which have always been there for him, so i didn't add extra friends in the relationships section since he doesn't really have a friend/person that would be important for the fic. so as much as the guy's friendly, the guy's a little lonely at times. however, while some of the loneliness drives him to keep on chasing after insung, he's already invested too much of himself, as well as time and effort, to justify giving up (he's almost there, really). especially when insung doesn't flat out tell him no and just gives reasons for why they shouldn't be together, only to be wishy-washy about them and then do things that one would do for a lover/good friend... so it's no wonder why wookyung's been going after him for so long since insung always makes him think that he has a chance - as slim as it is.
however, as much as i prefer the ending that i've given since that seems to make the most sense, i'm up for you doing a complete 180 and actually have the two get together if you want, but as long as insung realizes how much he's hurt the kid with wishy-washy statements and being hot and cold with how he acts around him. other than that, if you need more info/clarification on something, just tell me and i'll do that for you.

SUGGESTIONS. i expect something like a variety or the group being forced to do youtube videos to help increase their fanbase with silly videos. and then i expect someone to comlain about doing stuff like that since it isn't music... i actually don't expect any of these, but i feel like one member would probably not like varieties becaue it has no relation to music.
