things you need to know as a reader.

i love receiving & reading comments on my stories. some of them could be inspiring, some of them could make my whole day.

but there's this thing that has been constantly bugging me and i've been trying to just keep it in, but i...just can't anymore.

as a writer and a reader, i sometimes scroll down to read the comments left on other stories. sometimes i'd grin at the positive encouragements, sometimes i hate myself for reading the comments bcs they could be spoilers [all the blames on me tho!] but sometimes, there are comments that could make me just...really upset. and disappointed.

recently, i updated one of my stories, erstwhile - and hNNng god i love all the readers. i love you all. but sometimes, just sometimes, i wish that some of the comments would cut me some slacks.

there are so many demands. i get it, you want your ship to be together. i get it, you hate the other ship. i get it, you want the storyline to be written as you expected/planned. but get this - it's not your story. im not only talking about my stories.

some of you might be writers yourselves, so perhaps you would understand how other writers feel. but some readers aren't writers, or they've never written fanfiction before - hence, they want the story to continue/end in their way.

you can't do that. it's just so saddening and disappointing how the author works hard on writing and updating, only to receive comments demanding them to change their whole plot just because the readers don't like it.

these are the examples of comments i get on my stories:

[warning: possible erstwhile spoiler for the ones who have yet to read it]

"no HunHan please! It's my NOTP. i don't like reading them. theyre SO typical."

"okay, authornim, maybe you should write this: make chanyeol regret everything and maybe make baekhyun get in an accident and have amnesia and-" OH MY GOD CAN YOU NOT DO THIS TO OTHER PPL'S STORIES

"this update was so short because i don't read sesoo's part. lol"

me: [updates]

comment: UPDATE SOON.

me: [tries to update as soon as i can]

comment: UPDATE LONGER.

me: [updates longer chapters with multiple pairings]

comment: GOD I HATE THIS PAIRING. NO MORE [name of pairing] ANYMORE PLEASE.

i feel pressured.

i'm sorry to say that i can't satisfy all of you. all of you have different opinions, and if you expect me to obey all your demands, the fic would turn into a -up.

imagine if in erstwhile, a reader tells me to let chanyeol marry his beautiful fiancee and let baekhyun marry yifan. another reader tells me to make chanyeol cheat on his fiancee with baekhyun. while another reader tells me "not to be cliche" and create a plot twist; preferably krisyeol ending up together instead.

if i were to fulfill your demands and erstwhile ends ^ in that way, it would be the tiest fic ever.

thank you for the people who thank me for updating instead of telling me to update soon!

I am sure readers who don't write can't really understand the pressure u feel but O think u should write that in your author's note.no one wants their story to be ruined just because a reader doesn"t like how it is going!
THANK U so much for all your efforts.

I experience the same!!! They always insist me to stop being typical by putting the original EXO OTPS on my story but who the heck it's MY story and they don't have the right to command me! Grrr! I really appreciate readers commenting but not on that way. It's seriously frustrating telling me that my pairings are their NOTP, well then the pairings you're suggesting IS my NOTP. -_- " Like they have the guts to say that. /sigh/
Let's just do what we think is right, authornim. They don't own the story anyway and they're free to leave if they wish to.

Aw I do comment on how much I dislike Kris in your story lmao but I hope I'm not being annoying because although I hate yifan in erstwhile I'm just voicing out my frustration coz duh he hella affffff. But of course at the end of the day it's still your story and the frustration and angst is what makes it even more interesting. So I hope u won't get too stressed up, don't take the comments too seriously okay :))))) anyway I really love your stories so obviously I do want your updates but as a writer myself I know how it feels haha so don't pressure yourself!! Do everything at your pace and your liking!! Hwaitinggggg !!

Although I wasn't at the receiving end of this chaos yet, recently I have been seeing this concern in lot of author notes and such. Lot of authors of the stories I like to read seems to have this problem to the point of depression and even thinking to stop the story all together. It is so sad to hear that and I really can't get it, I mean with so much awareness everywhere, why people still do it? When they can clearly see nothing goods' going to come out from the constant nagging.
Hope you won't be that affected by those comments in the future :) Fighting!

That does become soooo stressful and writers should always go in their own time and be pestered into doing something right away.

authornim hwaiting!! happy new year and have a wonderful inspiring year ahead! please do not think too much of those kind of requests, if you feel bothered than think of the bright side, give them some points for not being silent readers (ehemm.. that's me most of the time.. :P).. sumimasen.. gomen nasai.. ^.^

I completely understand where you're coming from! I often get comments and messages telling me what I should do rather than showing me that they're enjoy or thankful for the story. You're an amazing writer and you work very hard, so please try to not let them bother you! Keep doing what you're doing because what you're doing is great.

I'm most likely a ghost(sorry) reader but I want to tell you that no matter how good a person is doing something there will always be people who doesn't like what they are doing for just random reason; anyways this your story and I personally think that if those people are reading your story they should accept it as you give it to us, in fact they should be as grateful towards you as I am because you share with us the story and because you do update constantly although you have so many others thing to do, Deaf ears to foolish comments. Keep up writing your story with your storyline, thank you for updating, eat well and please stay healthy.
*Sorry for my poor english (⋟﹏⋞)

everyone should just focus on the quality of the story and not on a pairing that they don't like being written in the story. i just read your update and read some comments too. there's one how they would not want kaisoo in it and how they would like you to keep sesoo. i'm only a reader and i felt really annoyed when i finished their comment.
by the time i started taking interest in reading fics, i made a mental rule to myself that i would like to read everything and conclude which story was great and which story was not to my liking. i don't depend on a pairing to decide if i want to read that story or not. i'm not really uncomfortable reading a fic with a not-so-famous pairing in it. i depend more on if the plot is building up nicely or if the dialog is great, just written nicely. i think everybody should be like that.
i hope every writer, for once, just write a story their way without reading comments from readers being demanding to do this or do that. just updating their stories freely without getting pressured. that way the authors don't feel disrespected or stressed about updating stories that would appeal to their audiences.
just do what you do and don't get the pressure get to you. just update whenever you feel like it. you are a great writer, continue what you're doing!!!

I honestly understand how you're feeling. I typically right sad depressing stories on my wattpad and I get many comments about how I should change the pairing or make the stories more happy. I hope that after this blog that people will start to see your view on the problem!

Keep your head up, sweetie. People don't understand the pressures of being an author. We have our own plans but people want us to do what they want, turn the story this way, that way, and it gets very upsetting, but you gotta remind yourself that you are in charge of this story, and you are writing every single word for yourself. Your readers will either drive you or wreck you but at the end of the day, the story is yours to complete. Those who leave these kinds of comments on your story don't really consider your feelings or your plans, and sometimes, you just have to believe that they don't know any better to get through it. You can do this though. Don't be discouraged.

I'm a writer but I've never gotten comments like that, but god, it must be so frustrating.
