Tell Me About Yourself

Personally, I'm not really fond of questions like 'tell me about yourself'. I mean, how do you expect me to summarize my entire life story thus far in one answer? Impossible, probably. Well, I've never actually tried doing it. It takes up too much energy, probably. In the first place, asking such a question is selfish. You force the person to quickly think of something about themselves that might please you. Especially questions like 'what's interesting about you'. What interests me might not interest you. So why the pressure? Someone asked me this once, "What's something interesting you do during you free time?" So I duly replied.

"When I'm in a public place while not doing anything in particular, I tend to look at children and imagine all the things that they can become when they grow up. I tend to look at adults and wonder if what they're doing now is what they imagined themselves doing when they were kids; doing what they've always wanted to do. I tend to look at the elderly and hope that they got to do what they want and let go of their regrets before their eventual deaths." At this point the person who asked me the question, probably regretted it. And it was at this point as well that I regretted thinking that he/she genuine wanted to know what interests me. When in actual fact, he/she was only interested in what interests him/her.

So moving forward whenever someone asks me something like that I'll say, "If you really want to know me better, maybe you should stop questioning me and start asking about the world around you." For example about the global disproportion in food & water distribution. Only then would he/she truly know about me; my thoughts, opinions and views. Who knows, he/she might even find out more about themselves. However, people are generally too afraid to talk about 'big' topics with someone they've just met, thinking it's too much of a heavy subject.

So then I would normally reply this, "I read books." And to that, the conversation always follows like this:

"Oh, what kind of books do you read?"

"Ones that are not too heavy, around this size." *roughly gauge the avg size of a book with my hands while nodding* Just to mess with him/her.

"No, I mean the genre."

"Oh, anything out of this world and doesn't usually happen in real life." Not really a genre, but you get what I mean. Probably.

Hi you>you!

I'm surprised you made it this far. I hope you got to know a thing or two about me. Contrary to what you might think now, I actually enjoy talking with people. So feel free to start a conversation anytime.

Until Then~*
