Why do writers just.......abondon a story?

if you can think of an answer, please, tell me. I hate it when someone does that. they write a great story and then just.......leave it. no reasons or anything. i mean, if life has gotten too crazy to write anymore, just flippin' tell people. readers (for the most part) understand 'cuz we have lives too (and those of us who also write get it even better 'cuz we've been in that spot too). what we don't undrstand is just leaving without a word like......like some kind of theif in the night (not really what i was going for, but *shrug* the expression works well enough).

I'm one of those authors lol
I have my reasons/excuses:
1. I need to set my priority straight especially when dealing with outside social communication and education so writing stories don't really have much place in my head (as sad as this may sound)
2. I don't feel like touching any of my works or making statements or promises. If I post that this story will be on a hiatus; more than half of my readers will probably completely forget about my stories (as selfish as this may sound) and think that I'm never coming back so I don't want to take the risk
3. I feel like it's better to keep things in a cliff-hanger than end it with a note; cos either way it still leaves a bitter taste to the readers and they would then start asking me when I will be coming back. I want people to know that Im not stating anything as a final decision, knowing that I have not completely abandoned the story. It's left with a blank, upcoming chapter because it has not ended and that I am planning to finish it (although it may take awhile)
4. If I did abandoned it; I would have put an author's note about it (never a hiatus note) and deleted the story
5. I am looking for inspiration to get my writing mind-set back from when I planned and created the story
6. I've written a few paragraphs, scenes and jotted the ideas down but is having a hard time to phrase and word everything into a proper chapter—which hopefully matches my old writing style and the previous chapters so the story still has the same feel
7. If I left for a long time; I assure you that when I do update, I don't want to only publish one chapter for me to forget it once again, but at least three chapters and get back on track
8. I tend to have new ideas for a fanfiction
9. New hobbies and new interests definitely come to play that I focus more on them than my stories. If ever it's a career I'm trying to pursue, or something simple like finishing an anime or getting into a new fandom. They distract me

Guilty as charged.
Personally, i tend to...lose interest if you will. Just a lack of inspiration and being overwhelmingly distracted by other things.

Sometimes I get struck by a amusing idea and bang out the first chapter and take a break. I usually come back and think that my work is trash or i just cant continue it, its just too rough on the edges, but I cant take it back anymore, its there for the whole world to see and it will never be the same to me. So i just move on.

Mainly why i only write oneshots now lmao

This is so true... I follow fics that haven't been updated since like 2013. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the author remembers. if they're too busy, I feel like they should at least tell the readers -.-

because of life and most times the authors write it in a blog that theyre going on hiatus or the like. i dont write reasons because i do try to update but it just gets pushed down on my priority list. what happens if i say that i am too busy to write, but then in a few days i find that i can update one chapter? i see that as being worse than not saying a reason why the story appears abandoned. besides, isn't it one of the main assumptions of an abandoned story that the author couldn't finish it because of life reasons?
