Drabble 20
"But sir, we only have chocolate banana waffles..." The waitress was obviously put in a spot, "We just don't serve chocolate waffles OR banana waffles."
She looked at both SHINee members with apologetic eyes, but she would risk disappointment from the two men rather than a volcanic eruption from the kitchen. The chef doesn't take too kindly to feedback.
"Hyung..." Taemin whined to his leader, as if wishing he'll have a way to make his banana waffles happen. It wasn't that Taemin was allergic to chocolate or anything, he only really didn't want to have his bananas with anything else. If he'd really ordered the chocolate banana waffle, the maknae knew he was going to end up forking all the bananas and scrutinize through the parts of the waffles where chocolate syrup isn't drizzled on. Taemin hates wasting food.
"Arasso," Jinki turned his attention back to the pitiful waitress, "We'll just have the chocolate banana waffle, and you could go light on the syrup."
"Not in my power..." She squeaked and hurried off to the kitchen before she was forced to take down any other menu-altering requests.
"Hyung!!" Taemin groaned again. This fancy dinner is ruined. The leader-maknae pair were here because of the rave reviews for the restaurant. It was a precious day off and they'd wanted to enjoy a good meal. But it seems they would be better off at a fast-food outlet where Taemin could remove his tomatoes and add pickles as he wanted. (He's not picky, just refined tastebuds.)
"Minnie," Jinki cooed, and it seems to always work wonders because Taemin's imaginary dog ears perked up, "I know, I know. But it'll work out." He flashed a warm smile as he ruffled the younger's hair.
When the chocolate banana waffles arrived, there was no hint of effort made by the chef to accommodate their teeny tiny request of going "light on the syrup". It was more like a symphony of and drips, then the graceful placement of banana slices on a heavenly-smelling waffle.
Still, Taemin's displeasure didn't go away. Jinki took his fork and knife to cut the waffle up. He was careful to pick out all the bananas onto a separate plate, then began his careful surgery on the waffle. The leader sliced up bite-sized waffles with little chocolate syrup and placed them on Taemin's serving plate.
"There you go, Jinki's style banana waffles. Please eat well!" Again he smiled kindly, his eyes curving into half-moons, though this time Taemin took it personally that this was a smile only for him. It made the younger blush, for once sorry of his eating habits, but also grateful that through this he saw how Jinki was spoiling him.
Maknae took his fork and quickly chomped down on his waffles, savoring the crispy waffles with fluffy insides. He ate the banana together with his slightly-chocolatey waffles, and for once he must admit the combination was divine! The two different kinds of sweetness and a pinch of salty flavor was simple delectable. Taemin nodded his head and danced a little at the bliss as he finished his share.
He also realized that this wasn't the first time Jinki had picked out food he knew the younger disliked. And Taemin sometimes ate those that he knew the elder disliked, too. He guessed, they complement each other in more ways than one, not just in the band.
"Last call for desserts!" The waitress made a mandatory round to all occupied tables.
Before she was at their table, the leader-maknae pair pulled out the menu again and this time, with telepathy, asked the other, "Chocolate-banana sundae bomb?"
I'm sorry if I'd focused too much on the waffles...hahahahah...hungry when I wrote it...
