( elaboration ) : haneul may not seem like it, but she's a very big people pleaser. it might seem like she just likes keeping to herself, but she's actually really worried about what people think of her. her father's words really affected her, as well. the one male figure in her life as a child had told her she never really mattered to him. that really messed up her normal way of thnking. she now lives, worried that everyone else is lying, too. that they secretly dislike her, that they have that one thing they don't like about her. she's really insecure about her behavior with other people that she's not close with, but soon she realizes that if she just doesn't do or say anything, people shouldn't have reason to dislike her, right? that's basically what her personality revolves around. she longs to be herself, but she's clouded by insecurity. she lives to please people, however bad she knows that is. she knows she should just be carefree and not worry what people think of her but she's so scared to have people harbor feelings towards her like her father did.

but that's pretty much her quiet personality - there's still her real self to talk about. haneul may be insecure and agreeable, but her outgoing part is something else entirely. she loses all fears and worries when she can be herself because she knows that these people already know her and have experienced her in her entirety. the insecurity is pretty indiscreet anyways - she's never bold about her emotions. it was all just stuff she thought about as she went through life with shut. it's not like she's completely shy and introverted - if someone says hi or compliments her or asks a questions or makes her laugh, she'll answer the question, say hi back, laugh, or say thanks. she's just generally quiet. but with her friends and family, she's loud, she initiates conversation, she's crazy. she's herself.

 

( background ) : so everyone probably has their own reason as to why they are how they are, right? haneul's is pretty interesting. she wasn't always the quiet girl she is now. she used to be fairly sociable and used to have a good amount of friends, but that changed because of her life at home. haneul never really had a good relationship with her dad, probably because it never started off well. her dad had always wanted a son to follow in his footsteps and become a businessman, so he was very disappointed when his wife gave birth to a daughter. he soon learned to accept the fact that he had a daughter ( they didn't bother trying again because one, he didn't want to. i mean, he doesn't want to be intimate with someone who already disappointed him once. and two, they're already pretty old. ), but then she realized she didn't want to go into business. this, naturally, caused her father to dislike her even more. it was never more than verbal abuse, but it really affected haneul's general behavior. her mom, of course, was worried for her, but she was kind of powerless against her husband ( who used to be different, but he changed because of the money he earned as a businessman ), so she didn't do anything ( also, he was abusive to her as well behind haneul's back, but it was physical as well as verbal ). but it's not like haneul resents her for that - the two now have a good relationship without him. this father issue definitely affected haneul's relationship with men, though. it left her feeling kind of clueless, helpless. she never really got to see firsthand how a married couple interacted and she could never ask for a namja pov on things, and she grew up scared that she wouldn't be wife material and such since she's so inexperienced ( and then you know when love interest finds this out its like squeals ill teach you esp scoups omg )

( who are you? ) : hi, uhm, my name's kang haneul. you probably know me as the quiet one in the media class. *chirp chirp* uh. ...yeah.

 

( do you like being labelled as this? ) : well, it's not like being the quiet one's bad. there's no reason for people to hate me, right, if i don't say anything to make them like or not like me. but yeah, there's not really a problem. and besides, it's kind of fun to have that title but not really be like that at all, you know? 

 

( which subject, or subjects, have you chosen for your documentary? ) : uhm, i'm kind of doing a mix of, like, everything? kinda? yeah. it's mostly on escapism and i'm just using some of the other topics to branch off to explain different ways that people distance themselves from the world and kind of find their haven.hobbies like music and fashion are what i'm using as ways of escapism and then family plays a really big part in the documentary, too, since it can also be a way of escapism but it's also what people want to escape from and...yeah. it's kind of complicated...

 

( why did you choose to take media studies? ) : uhm...no one knows this, well, obviously, since i'm the quiet one, but i'm actually pretty into media and the entertainment industry in general. i like kpop and dramas and i want to be a kpop star or an actress, and this class was the closest i could get to experience while i'm in high school.

( do you like your classmates? ) : i mean, i guess. secretly, i think it'd be cute if we all turned out to be this really tight group of friends at the end of this class session. i've always wanted that variety of different people that match so well in a group of friends. but since that seems a long way off, i'll just say they're okay.

 

 

 

( which one do you like most? ) : the nice one, probably. who doesn't like them, really? she really is nice to everyone for some reason and she even smiled at me a few times, which really means a lot.

( which one do you least like? ) : the popular one...? to be honest, i'm kind of meh about all of them. i have a very active imagination ( which is what i get for being a wallflower ) and i can pretty much see all of them having alternate identities and being the opposite of what they're stereotyped as. but if they really are what they are, then it's probably the popular one. they just seem kind of stuck up. i mean, yeah, the mean one has a bad reputation, but in media class she just shuts up and stays on her phone so i don't know.

( stereotype ) : haneul and her group of friends are loud, but not loud enough to be recognized by the whole school. they're all usually off by themselves anyways. they don't have any classes together because they all have different strengths and weaknesses in school, so haneul never has anyone to talk to in her classes. thus, she stays quiet, thanks to her social awkwardness, lack of too much human interaction, and other reasons. she never asks questions, either, and when she's working in a group, the most she really does is introduce herself and then contribute once or twice. everyone in her classes have therefore dubbed her the quiet one. she didn't mind this stereotype, especially since it was true. she is quiet. it's not like she has to try hard to keep up with this title like other people might. she's used to keeping her thoughts in her head and having that monotonous expression that hides her feelings, so it's not like she had to get used to being the quiet one.

( secrets ) : refer to background section, thanks ! but other than that, her only secret is that she is not the quiet one at all!!1! outside of school, she's usually with her friends or family and she is pretty much the exact opposite with them. she's always smiling and laughing out loud ( yes out loud as in loud bc her laugh is loud ). especially with her friends, who she has never gotten into a fight with ( unlike family. who doesn't fight with family. ). ( basically, just think normal beagle - dols mamamoo. that's what these girls are like. ) and yes, she has a crush. love interest slowly finds his way into her heart, especially after what he does for her. pretty much her whole life is the secret because no one knows anything about the quiet one. they don't know that she likes kpop, they don't know that she can sing or dance or act, they don't know her family problems, they don't know she's into fashion, they don't know anything. so nayoung kinda gets overwhelmed ha.

 

( media class ) : tbh, haneul was kind of scared about this documentary project, because she's originally a procrastinator and this was a pretty big part of their grade, but once she decided what she was gonna do it on, she was ready for this crap. she's always done well in this class, anyways, since she's more diligent when she does what she likes. she loves learning new things about how to film, secrets to making films, dialogue tips, etc., especially because she's always watched movies as a child ( like who hasn't ) and realizing things that they did that she now knows is just cool to her. she's pretty attentive in class and tries her best ( even when she can see seungcheol staring at her out of the corner of her eye ). her grade in the class has never been below an 'a'. ayyyy

( personality ) : seungcheol : choi seungcheol is a very carefree person who basically just wants to live life to the fullest while he can. but for him, living life to the fullest doesn't mean going to clubs and hooking up with girls and such. he's actually a very moralistic ( ??? otl ) guy and wants to do meaningful things - like, i don't know, go on a hike, go to namsam with his girlfriend ( someone he actually truly really loves ), have kids, a family, lazy mornings with his wife, etc. he may seem like an unloyal flirt, but he actually doesn't really mean to flirt flirt with all these girls. he was just raised by a mother who taught him how to treat girls well, which is what he does. he finds girls pretty, and so he tells them and is nice to them and maybe he can go a little bit overboard at times, but he just likes complimenting people and making them happy. he's never had any major life problems, so he's kind of clueless when it comes to extreme emotions, but if it ever came down to it, he'd definitely try to listen and understand as much as possible. ( i hope i did well omfg i at personalities )

 

soonyoung : kwon soonyoung is a very happy - go - lucky person who always likes looking on the bright side of things and is always smiling and is basically the light of everyone's world. there is literally not one person who dislikes this boy. and there's no one he dislikes either. he's always cracking harmless jokes during class and making everyone laugh, plus he's the favorite of all the teachers and the omchinah ( omma chingu ahdeul, aka mom's friend's son - the boy all the moms want as their son in law ) of the neighborhood. and it's geniune, too. like seungcheol, soonyoung just likes making people happy because it makes him happy. he was always a happy child, too, raised by wonderful parents, and he let that influence him now. he's very much a people person and is very good at listening. he tries his best to help people out and is very responsible and just perfect sighpies.

 

( meeting ) : seungcheol : haneul and seungcheol only know of each other through school. she actually knew him before he knew her, actually. with her natural observation skills. she knew he was the flirt of the school and therefore didn't really pay attention to him. their first meeting was in media class. haneul had gotten there pretty early and chose an isolated spot in the back of the room on the left side of the desk. seungcheol came in late and chose the seat in front of her, but she didn't really notice since she was working, until the teacher said to pass the worksheets back. seungcheol turned fully around to see a haneul engrossed in her work. he put his head on the desk and stared up at her. "hey, pretty girl." he said, making her look up. he chuckled and gave her the paper. "at least she knows." and then he turned around.

 

soonyoung : the only thing haneul and soonyoung were before they got close was classmates. haneul, of course, knew him, and she was pretty ok with him, too. ( like i said, no one doesn't like him ) then she saw him in her media class and she was like hey, this should be fun and then he sits by himself too which she finds kind of interesting but when they have to do a partner thing in class, they both don't have partners and are paired up together and he like starts talking to her and saying hi to her a lot outside of class and then he sits next to her you know like "well we both don't have partners, so this makes everything easier!"

 

( interactions ) : seungcheol : since seungcheol is a big flirt, haneul wasn't surprised to see that he was the same in media class. however, she was surprised that the flirting was directed towards her, especially since she was the quietest one in the classroom.but that attracted seungcheol to her, because usually the girls he flirted with flirted back, but haneul gave very little reaction, so he tended to try harder with her.

on the second day of classes, he started sitting next to her ( her seats in the back of class ha ) and started flirting with her more. he likes getting close to her face, staring at her, poking her, playing with her hair, etc. pretty much just touching her. at first he just likes to goof off with her by trying to distract her from her work, but when he starts actually liking her, he tends to do the staring and getting close to her more. there are also some things he does that kind of make her heart beat just a little!!1! for example, he'll be looking at her like this and just wink at her, or he'll bite his lips while doing it, which is even worse. but yeah. basically their interactions are seungcheol being all touchy and everything and haneul's kind of just like can you not but she secretly enjoys it.

 

soonyoung : so obviously he's nice to everyone, but he notices that haneul's the slightest bit different from everyone else so he treats her the slightest bit differently. before they sat next to each other, he just said hi, like he did to everyone. but then they got closer, closer than he actually is with anyone. sure he's everyone's favorite, but he doesn't really have any friends ; he just knows everyone. so he's like wow hey i like you. yes he actually says that straight up. he's like "i think i like you" and she's like "what?!" but he's like "i don't know. i think. we'll see." and he just smiles and walks away but from then on he's pretty obvious about his feelings.

so he goes from good friend to like wanting to be with her all the time. and he's very open about it. "hey, wanna have a study date?" "let's hang out today." "come on, i'll buy you noodles!" ( he loves noodles. and apples. ) "*sees her from across the hallway* hi best friend!! you look beautiful today!! *she runs away* alright see you later!! *beams*" and then one day she's just like "why do you want to hang out with me so much" and straightforward soonyoung is just like "because i like you and i want to spend lots of time with you." so innocently and she's like caught off guard and wow.

 

both : so yeah, obviously she finally opens up to love interest and becomes close and maybe even slightly weird around him. this is what happened. so her mom decided haneul should call her father and apologize. haneul thought about it for a while and finally found the courage to dial his number. ( she escaped to the park for this call btw ) *9 years, and this is the first time we're contacting each other.* her heart beat about five times faster than normal, until finally someone answered in a slurred voice, loud music in the background. "Hello?" someone mumbled. tears spilled from haneul's eyes, but she regained her posture and croaked out a "hi." "who is this?" the voice slurred back. "haneul." she replied, but no one answered back. she pulled the phone away from her ear to see if he had hung up, but the call was still going. she put the phone back to her ear and said, "hello?" her heart rate getting faster at the thought of being rejected yet again by this man. the music was still going though, but then it got quieter until it was just muffled background noise. haneul guessed he was outside of what was probably a club. "haneul? this is kang haneul?" "yes." "why are you calling?" he had a bitter tone and haneul felt the tears threatening her yet again. she explained that her mom decided it was time for her to apologize and she thought it was time, too. she waited again in agony for a reply, and boy did she get one. "apologize? for what, being a disappointment in my life? you're existence is something you can never make up for, child." his voice got louder and louder as he used an affectionate term in an unaffectionate way. "you know i never wanted you! and once i decided i could deal with a daughter, you decided to defy me, your gracious father, and not follow in my steps and become a successful businesswoman!" he went on and on, repeating the same things she had heard those 9 years ago, until finally she couldn't hold it in and did something she never ever thought she could do, but realized she had been waiting all her life to do. she exploded. "gracious father my foot, ok? any loving dad would want their kid to follow their own dreams and not force upon them what they couldn't achieve with their lack of talent. this is why i didn't follow in your steps! successful businessman? you're just spending your time and money on all these secular things to distract yourself from the failure you are that you always thought i was. don't even try to lie and tell me that you're just drinking with your boss, because i know. i've always known. why? because i pay attention. because i observe. because i was a part of your life and mom's life and i. am not. vapor. don't throw the guilt of being a failure on me." and then she hung up and burst into tears. and guess who happens to walk that way? why hello, love interest. so of course she spills her story along with more tears and he shows just how much he cares and loves her and can be there for her.

 

( relationship ) : both : so basically they go from strangers to classmates to acquaintances to friends ish to crushing to dating squeals

 

( status ) : seungcheol: yeah he single but he be a flirt so whats even the point of saying hes available cries plus he gets lots of confessions like everyday but he's like sorry uhh i don't like you but he's too sweet to hate after that.

 

soonyoung : yeah he single. otl he gets confessed to as well once in a while, but he just nicely rejects them because they're not the one meh. but he doesn't say that or else they'd probably cry omg.
