the face
( fc ) : seventeen's joshua

( extra? ) : there are some nasty scars on his back, a few parallel lines - these are from a particularly bad locker shove that actually somehow managed to draw blood. haewon is pretty pale since he doesn't spend time outside very often and as a result bruises really easily. he's of average height and weight, and always wears sweaters,  because he's always cold. (even when his classmates have long abandoned the jackets of their winter uniforms, haewon still wears his - the air conditioning of the school building makes him cold.)
the deep end
"i - i was worried. "
( plotline ) : the one who stayed
( personality traits ) : easily lonely; anxious; impassive; stiff; timid; airy; creative; spacey; moral; loyal; diffident.
( elaboration ) :
haewon's surface is completely blank; no facial expressions, usually, and no (or hardly any, if he's around people he can talk to) words to express what he's feeling in the first place. he always looks down at his notebook even when the teacher is taking attendance, and even his brightest smile is still pretty much indistinguishable from his resting face. some people - his father, the school gang - think that haewon's lack of expressions and general stiffness, combined with the fact that he's almost completely silent when he's at school (with his childhood friends being the only people he can talk to), is some form of rebellion - as if he thinks he's better than everyone else.

clearly, they could not be more wrong.

haewon's always been shy - he never speaks first and much prefers to listen - but what was shyness as a child mutated in to full on social anxiety and low self-esteem as a teenager. he's forever afraid of opening his mouth to speak for fear of saying something embarassing, but at the same time, he knows (and beats himself up about) how dumb he must look when he's called on in class and can't say a word. he's been known to trip over while he walks, losing his balance while he tries to look cool. moreover, all haewon really wants is to have friends. he's used to being alone now, but he hates it. what's worse is that, in haewon's mind, it's completely his fault; if he could be like everyone else, if he could be normal, he'd have friends. the closest thing he has right now is his never-ending collection of notebooks and journals - they're full of letters that he'll never send to people he was sure he'd never see again; if the closest thing haewon has to friends is memories, he'll gladly live in those.

haewon's best traits are the ones he can't see. for one thing, haewon has an extremely good sense of right and wrong; he's against prejudice, no matter who it's towards. he's also not the type of person to get angry or lash out at other people in general, no matter how angry he is at a person. haewon is also just so darn creative - he loves fantasy stories and has a few hundred ideas swimming all around in his head at any given time. when he's not being anxious, his head is in the stars. if you could get him talking about what's on his mind at those times, you'd be astounded by the vividness of his descriptions. haewon wants to be a writer when he's older, and he has the talent to.

mostly, though? haewon is loyal. he never forgets a face or a name once he learns it, and if you're kind to him once, he'll remember forever. if you were ever shin haewon's friend, he'll be grateful to you forever.

( background ) :
haewon's early childhood wasn't bad at all. his father (shin haesung) is an architect, and his mother (kwon hanna) is a baker; the family was never short on funds, and for that, haewon is grateful. one of haewon's earliest memories is sitting on the backyard porch, squeezing his toy dog perry, and watching his father build him a clubhouse. it didn't get much use, at first - as much as haewon loves perry, she isn't the best playmate - until the summer that haewon was seven.

that summer was not the last time haewon was truly happy, but it's the time he remembers the most vividly. running around in the backyard, going up to the hill to watch fireworks, all the games and adventures, everything - it sticks out in his mind like white crayon on black paper. of course, that summer ended all too soon - haewon's stilll proud that he didn't cry when he realized everyone was gone. no summer after that was ever the same; though haewon has yet to miss one of his town's famous fireworks shows, they've never been the same without his group.

still, though - as haewon finished elementary school and entered middle school, he had a small group of friends. they weren't particularly close, but it was certainly far better than being alone.

( trivia ) :
• haewon is, for some reason, always cold. even during summer nights he needs a blanket, and he always wears sweaters, even in spring.
• haewon hates making eye contact with anyone for any reason whatsoever.
• if something embarassing happens on tv, he'll turn the volume all the way down - haewon hates secondhand embarassment.
• his favorite writers are jk rowling, rainbow rowell, rick riordan and george rr martin, but frankly, haewon will read anything - especially fantasy novels, which are his favorites.
• haewon doesn't listen to a lot of music, actually. he likes video games soundtracks (regardless of if he's ever played the games he listens to) and chill, owl city-esque techno.

the interview
"..."
( so - what's your favorite memory from the summer you were seven? ) : ...my favorite? maybe... i mean, i don't know. it was all...it was all fun. j-just being with everyone, um - (/he clears his throat and looks towards the floor.) but if it's just one memory it's...the fireworks, it's the fireworks. everyone started leaving the next day...but i remember all of it. the blanket wrapped around my shoulders, getting coated in bug spray, my mom was so worried about me getting an infection from a mosquito bite or something...but, u-uh, the fireworks. are my favorite memory from that year.
( what'd you think of the kid with the clubhouse - shin haewon? ) : of - what do i think of me? me? um. i - i try not to think...about myself, a lot. i like my clubhouse i g-guess but that's...i mean, it's whatever, i guess. i'm n-nothing to wite home about.
( can you drive? like, legally? ) : ...i tried. i tried signing up for classes b-but i couldn't, um, talk to the - to the lady at the front desk.
( how do you look back on that summer? ) : that summer - it - that summer was fun. i don't...it wasn't...it...(/he pauses, trying to find the words - there are the things he writes about, not the things he usually says out loud.) i was very happy then.  i-it was happy and i was happy - being with everyone... i wouldn't t-trade it for anything in the world.
( and now you're reunited with all those people. how does that feel? ) : (/he frowns.) i must be...wait, wait, no. um. i am - i'm happy to see everyone again. i'm very g-glad that - that people have been moving back to gwacheon and being in school with me. i'm h-happy but - but i doubt they'd be happy to see me. i c- if i'm...i might not be...i mean, um, if i can't talk to them...if i can't talk to them i know they'll just treat me like everyone else will. i d-don't want to disappoint anybody more than i do already.

the romance
( love interest ) : one of you lucky applicants will end up with him, maybe
( backup ) : if not i don't know?
( gender ) : either

( personality ) : -
( meeting ) : -
( interactions ) : -

( relationship ) : honestly, regardless of who haewon gets paired with, the only real headcanon i have is that haewon probably had a huge, hero-worshippy crush on his love interest when they were little kids. in haewon's journal he's written forever unsent letters to everyone; this person has the most written to them of anyone.
( status ) : i mean...applicant
the goodbye
