FASHION STYLE ☆  R!OT's concept calls for a lot of ripped, darker clothing (and lots of plaid) and Gale's personal style is sort of opposite of that. She likes just a simple white tshirt and jean shorts. Gale had never owned a pair of Converse before her debut MV, where she was seen wearing a pair of bright red ones. She immediately took them home and they became the shoes that everyone knew to look for. When at home, she's usually in sweatpants or some other form of casual wear. For filming, both on the show and during various variety, her style is a mixutre of her personal style and her group's concept. As long as it's comfortable, Gale isn't one to complain.On dates, Gale prefers really nice shorts (or occasionally a skirt if the occasion was special enough) and heels, although due to her height she's never been able to wear them (all her dates have been shorter than her). A dress is either a hit or a miss with her, it depends on two things: The ocassion and who's going to see it. If she wears a really nice dress, expect her being at an awards show or she must really like you.

LiA | 26 | Main Rapper, Dancer. | Born as LiXiaong, she and her twin sister Mia were born in Qingdao, China. She's known as the Dad of the group and is frequently doing more activities in China as Leader of one of their sub-units soon to debut, Trinity. She and her sister have decided to remove themselves from Korean actitivies and focus on Trinity so they can be with their families more, placing them on hiatus in Korea while promoting in China. LiA is very protective of her "kids" and is known to bother Gale after getting word of her "getting married".

MiA | 26 | Vocalist, Dancer. | MingXia and her sister are very close and place their family above all, and when given the chance to become apart of a Chinese singing trio to promote in China, therefore letting them be with their families more, they agreed, putting their R!ot membership on hiatus to spend more time with their families. She's an auntie, always asking Gale through phone calls and skype if she's ever going to get a "real" boyfriend. MiA recently announced she was engaged while on Trinity promotions.

Solar | 24 | Lead Dancer, Vocalist, Sub-Rapper.| Third oldest and the "mom" of the group, Solar is always worried about her children and is known to be doing the most. While she's currently in Trinity promotions, she's still an active member of R!ot and will soon be juggling not on China promotions, but R!ot promotions. She's the one that worries Gale about this whole ordeal -- Solar is like that mom that is super protective and likes to investigate the people that her children are interested in, and Rap Monster was no acception. He passed, but only barely after introducing himself via phonecall as politely as he could. 

Haeun | 22 | Visual, Main Vocalist, Leader. | Quoted as the supposed "Money Maker" of the group, Haeun is the one that everyone wants to look like and be like, at least to the public. Haeun, in reality, is actually quite bossy and wants to be a soloist. She was actually supped to be the Lead Vocalist, while Gale was the main vocalist, but after ... complications that Gale wasn't in control of, the positions were switched. Avid fans of the group say that they prefer Gale's vocals to Haeun's. However, overall netizens adore Haeun's visuals and bother Starship to make her a soloist.

Jiyeon | 18 | Lead Rapper, Sub-Vocalist. | Gale's "first born" as she likes to say it, and Jiyeon honestly doesn't mind being babied. Marketed as the next Amber, she's pretty pleased with her accomplishments and hopes to collaborate with some other members for songs in the future. She's fairly quiet for the most part, but when she gets on stage she seems to be a firecracker. Then you pair her up with Gale and Dao... It's incredible what the maknae trio are capable of.

Dao | 17 | Main Dancer, Rapper, Maknae. Dao is originally from Thailand, and is known as Gale's baby. Gale always babies their youngest, and is first to snap when someone asks about her dark skin. Dao, personally, is a little jealous: of the husband. He gets to spend a lot of time with her role model, the person who's a mom to her, so she's sad that Gale is going to have less time for her. If he's not treating her right, Dao will be the one to say something.

EXTRA☆ R!OT debuted in late 2014 with their first hit song "Deja Vu" with double track "Just Go" in mini-album "ReBeL". Their style concept is 90's grunge, while their music leans to a more a funky, brass heavy vibe. Strong vocals, strong raps, all around a very powerful girl group that is growing in popularity.

Positive explained: Gale is probably one of the most cheerful young girls you'll ever meet. Ever an optimistist, she likes to not be downhearted and look on the bright side of things. R!OT as a group actually does a lot of dancing, which requires a lot of energy, which is great because boy does Gale have energy and then some. She doesn't really have an off switch, and is frequently told she needs to know how to relax. Music has been her passion, and when Gale is given a task, she's extremely passionate about it and gives it her all. She likes to recieve as much as she gives, so when R!OT doesn't do well she gets a bit discouraged. As seen through her love of Dao, Gale cares about people, especially people who are younger than her. She'll do just about anything for people she cares for. What you see is what you get with Gale, as well as most of her group. They definitely don't believe in putting on some sort of persona outside of their performing. So she's not afraid to admit a flaw or even go barefaced on camera. 

Neutrals explained: Being raised in America, and in Los Angeles, Gale had a huge advantage about learning about anything and everything, making her more open minded about social and political issues. This has caused some clashes within her group and sometimes within her company, but Gale tries to hold her tongue on being a "social justice warrior". This goes hand in hand with her being opiniated. She has a very strong sense of right and wrong and hates when people have a more warped sense (i.e. an opinion that's different than hers.) She tries not th let it get in the way, but she can get into some very heated debates about it.

Negatives explained: Going off from the neutrals, it's obvious that Gale can be very, very stubborn. She has a hard head and intends to get her way. What she needs is someone who can break that habit and let her know it's okay to be wrong sometimes. When she is wrong or doesn't get her way, she's very childish as in pouting, mini tantrums, and other things. She admits this is definitely something she needs to work on, but her members say that so far she hasn't made a lot of progress. With Gale, sometimes caring can pass over into being clingy. If she likes you, you'll know it because she won't want to leave you alone. If you directly ask her, she'll relectuantly do so, but if you don't mind, this girl will hop on your back and never let go. Gale is the most implusive person you'll meet. Almost all that she does is based on impluse. This causes her not to think all of her decisions through, making it seem like she can be insensitive to others, when it's actually the opposite. Being 'airy' doesn't mean stupid, because Gale is intelligent and can talk around you in cirles. But airy means that she's not always aware of people's feelings around them. That's usually why she's constantly asking if her members/partner is okay. While it can come across as insenstive, as her questions can usually be pretty blunt, she does try to mean well.

the history and the people of my life

BACKGROUND ☆ 

Life Before Starship: California girl through and through, Gale was first known as Nicole Chen, the middle child of three. The Chens were next door neighbors to a family called the Tuans. Nicole would be known to follow their oldest son, Mark around, who was best friends with her older brother. Her older brother, Noah, didn't really mind, after all she was his baby sister and she wasn't ever annoying, just liked to follow around and observe. Mark babied her and looked after her a lot, causing parents to joke about their relationship and how they'd eventually end up together. After Nicole turned nine, they had her baby sister, Noel. This gave Nicole more of a reason to help out at home, and she did, but when her parents deemed it unnecessary, she'd be over knocking on the Tuans door, asking to play with Mark and Noah. 

When middle school rolled around for Nicole, she was absolutely scared out of her mind. Kids can be mean, even if you were nice. Mark and Noah promised to keep an eye out for her, even though they were a year apart. They kept good on it, always talking to her during their breaks, on the bus, in general just to make sure she was okay. She didn't have many friends, but no one was especially rude to her either, so middle school was just full of bad fashion choices and the god awful middle part hair phase (it works on some people, but not for Nicole).

High School was where Nicole really started to mature and suddenly, she wasn't a little girl anymore. She met her best friend in the world, Lani, who taught her and introduced her to a lot of topics, including the subject of marriage. Lani's parents weren't married, and Lani wasn't planning on it either. Their lifestyle was so free, unrestricted, and Nicole admired that and adopted some of their ideals, trying to find her own mindset and opinions. When Mark left to Korea, Nicole was a sophmore, about to go into her junior year and she was, to say the least, upset. Mark was really her first friend outside her family, despite him being like an older brother, and so it hurt seeing him off at the airport. While training took up a lot of his time, he did make time to call his family, and Noah and Nicole. He said it was hard, but it was worth a shot to try if anyone was even remotely interested. That struck something inside Nicole. She had never really been a performer, mostly working backstage in theater in the makeup department. She thought about it, and while to Nicole singing hadn't been a huge part of her life, decided to pick it up and try auditioning for her school's choir, and surprisingly got in. With training, she found she wasn't half bad of a singer. During the summer of her Junior year, she sent in an audition video to JYP on a whim. If they didn't like it, then she could move on. But when she got the email saying she was invited to a formal audition at the company, Nicole didn't know what to do. She went to her parents, who, at first, weren't for it at all. It took Noah and Noel supporting their sister in her newfound dream to convince them to let her go. After all, it wasn't like she'd be alone out there either. The Chens even brought in the Tuans, and they encouraged Nicole to go. So, she withdrew from high school to go to Korea and audition. She'd reenroll if she didn't get in. One shot, her parents said, so don't waste it. So she worked. She worked and practiced all the time before getting on that plane, and right outside the audition room. And she got in, officially becoming a trainee at JYP.

Trainee @ JYP: It wasn't a long time period, about a year before she transferred to Starship. Starship and JYP did that sometimes, offered trainees to switch between them, and when Starship offered, Nicole was extremely hesitant. She wanted to stay with someone familar, Mark, but he was busy preparing for his debut in a new boy group. He tried to make time for her, and when she mentioned it, he told her, "Wherever you're truly happy. JYP would offer you to switch back if you weren't happy, I'm sure." So Nicole made her transfer over to Starship, hoping that she was making the right choice.

Welcome aboard the Starship: Her first day, she met SISTAR, and was starstuck, for a lack of a better word. They were all so beautiful, and more than willing to help the baby trainees, and Nicole found herself trailing after Bora, completely entranced. She was called "Bora's puppy" for following her around like that, and she was very embarrassed about it, but Bora insisted it was okay and that if she needed anything, she was there to help. Through that offer, Nicole found herself getting very close to the girl group member, calling her "unnie" and finding that she fit in very well at this new company. Nicole found herself making new friends amongst the trainees, including her future groupmates. Together, they all practiced and worked as hard as the could, catching the attention of the teachers and even the CEO of the company's eye, and a new project was starting after seeing the six (soon to be seven) girls working together so well, finding their positions within the group themselves.

Let's start a R!OT: During their training, it was told that there was going to be a new girl group debuting soon, and the lineup was to be annouced within the company. As it turns out, the six girls who had become a team were recongized as the new girl group, along with a trainee who had only been there for eight months: a Thai girl named Dao. While some were weary of having such a new trainee added onto their group, Gale welcomed her warmly and immediately started her mothering. When asked, she would just say, "She reminds me of me." And it was true. Gale (as she had been recently renamed) saw scared 17 year old Nicole arriving in Korea, at one of the Big 3 entertainment companies and having next to no one to turn to. She didn't want anyone else to experience that feeling, and soon her mindset rubbed off onto the other members, accepting Dao as their maknae and striding towards debut, knowing that their concept would not be an easy one to pull off, but it was one that all of them wanted to prove they fit.

Scandals: When R!OT debuted, not even two months later Dispatch released photos of Gale coming and going from GOT7's dorm, demanding to know if the newly debuted lead vocalist was currently involved with a GOT7 member. Immediately JYP came out to her defense, saying that she was close to Mark, like she had mentioned upon her own debut, and was visiting him. Rumors flew around, making everything seemed worse than what it was. During the MAMAs, Gale was seen with Boyfriend's Jeongmin, being especially close and even holding his hand. Fans immediately demanding Starship to confirm their relationship. Both groups denied the possibilty, saying that Jeongmin had been calming down an anxious Gale, who said that skinship and physical contact helped keep her grounded during anxiety attacks. Then, earlier in 2015, two scandals popped up: one personal and another dating one. Gale and newly debuted SEVENTEEN's Woozi were seen at a park together, seeming quite close. Both Pledis and Starship released statements that Gale and Woozi had run into each other and decided to take a walk together on a whim. Woozi went on to explain in an interview, "We were both stressed with similar things, my group's debut, obviously, and her group is making a comeback this year and the concept for her has changed. So we decided to help each other out." Gale also told a similar story in a different interview, leaving netizens with no choice but to believe them. Gale's personal scandal was a drinking one. Many netizens critized her for having so many problems so early into debut, but weren't expecting her response, "If I were a male, would you think the same? Or would you have defended me? Think about that." She apologized for all of her scandals recently and rumors have been going around if she will even promote with the group during their anticipated comeback or if she'll be put on hiatus until her scandals are resolved.

FAMILY ☆ 

— Father, William Chen ☆ 52 ☆ Professor ☆ family oritented, proud, friendly. ☆ Gale and her father get along rather well, despite his slight disapproval of her career choice. Being an idol, the pressure of it, is a lot to handle and he doesn't want something to mentally and emotionally damage his only girl. He and Papa Tuan like to do silly things and support their kids, though. They also "bully" Mark and Gale to spend time together, and always admit to wanting them to end up together if they're asked about it by fans on Twitter.
— Mother, Maria Chen ☆ 47 ☆ ITT assistant ☆ intelligent, optimisitc, blunt. ☆ Maria is an all-Amercian girl, with blonde hair and blue eyes to match, so when she and her daughter hang out together or go out shopping, people don't actually believe Gale's actually hers. She's very upset at all the drama surrounding her girl, though, and frequently tells her if she were tied down to someone *coughcoughMarkcoughcough* no one would bother her anymore. So her mother is a bit more uptight about it, only because she knows how awful people and the internet can be to someone so young like Gale.
— Older Brother, Noah Chen ☆ 22 ☆ University student ☆ patient, quiet, friendly. ☆ Noah deserves the Best Big Brother Award for the way he treats both his sisters. He's never one to push them away, as shown when he let little Nicole tag along whenever he'd go over to play with Mark. Eventually, Nicole, him, and Mark became fairly close, known to hang out during and after high school. When Noah went off to university, Nicole missed him a lot. Noah supports her group and Mark's frequently, being seen at KCON and concerts in the L.A area, even though Gale admits to him being more into the hiphop genre than pop.
— Little Sister, Noel Chen ☆ 11 ☆ Middle School student ☆ hyper, smart, cheerful. ☆ Noel strives to be like her older siblings, but especially her big sister. Nicole was there until Noel was about 9, so to not have that big sister when she's going into middle school... She's pretty scared, but Gale always follows through on a promise when it comes to calling her, or even coming to see her, and so has Noah, so she has a great family around her. Gale has never been able to promise or come home for Noel's birthday since she left to Korea. 

FRIENDS ☆ 

— The Bro, Mark Tuan ☆ 21 ☆ Idol/GOT7 ☆ quiet, respectful, caring. ☆ Through her older brother. ☆ Mark became fast friends with Noah at a young age and practically grew up with the Chens, finding it cute how Nicole would look up to them. He wasn't surprised when as she got older, they started actually including and asking her for her input on things to do, and soon enough, she was basically another sister to him. He dearly cares for the younger girl, and when she came to Korea, he was really excited. At the MAMAs when R!OT performed, Mark was seen cheering Gale on with her personal fanclub color band. It gets awkward, because their families are constantly pushing them together, but neither of them are romantically interested. 
— The Bro's Bro, Jackson Wang ☆ 21 ☆ Idol/GOT7 ☆ loud, energetic, humble.  ☆ Through Mark. ☆ While Gale was still a trainee over at Starship, Mark would help her with her Korean and let her hang out at GOT7's dorm (eventually causing her first scandal, but more on that later) and she got to know all of the boys really well, but as we all know, you can't have Mark without Jackson, so Jackson made it his mission to befriend her. They got along pretty well, and soon enough she and Jackson could talk on their own time and got closer on their own. He was also seen with Gale's personal fanclub band on his wrist at the MAMAs. 
— Big Sister, Bora ☆ 25 ☆ Idol/SISTAR ☆ energetic, cute, hardworking. ☆ Through training. ☆ Gale had always wanted someone to look up to as a female figure besides her mom (Grace Tuan was really great too, but she was older than Gale and it was hard to relate to each other before Grace started living on her own). and when she met Bora, it was set. Bora was so youthful, so despite their age difference, they got along very well. Gale always went to Bora for advice, and Bora is happy to give it to her. Bora is always seen cheering her "little sister" on, and Gale is always seen supporting SISTAR. 
— Friend through a Friend, Youngji ☆ 20 ☆ Idol/KARA ☆ cute, determined, genuine. ☆ Through Jackson. ☆ When GOT7 visited Jackson on Roommate, Gale happened to tag along and met Youngji. They weren't able to talk a lot, seeing as they were busy for much of the day thanks to filming, but they both banded together and messed with Markson, calling themselves "Galeji" and earning laughs throughout the program, including being called "laugh twins" due to their similar "soundless alligator laugh". They keep in touch, even though both of their groups are pretty busy, leaving little time for them to get to be better friends. Gale has expressed interest in wanting to spend more time with her, though.
— Bestie #1, Lani ☆ 20 ☆ University student ☆ whimiscal, open minded, intelligent. ☆ High School friends ☆ Lani and Nicole met in first year of high school, both sitting in the back of their Biology class bored out of their minds. Lani was a talented artist, and one day her doodling caught Nicole's eye. She complimented the other girl's artistic talents and from then on the girls were attached at the hip. Lani came from a hippie, free thinking based family, and that's where Nicole learned a lot of things and became more liberal. While her parents didn't necessarily approve of Lani's lifestyle choices, they recognized that she was ultimately Nicole's best friend and wasn't a bad person. Although art school keeps Lani busy, she does subscribe to all forms of social media that Nicole's band and Nicole herself are on. Gale once made her promise to design R!OT's next album cover.
 

OTHERS ☆ 

— New friend, Newbie Couple Applicant ☆ ? ☆ ? ☆ ? ☆ The group's promotions overlapped, and they were both on a few variety shows together. ☆ Newbie and Gale bonded over being so new to the business, and similarities is style. Gale really appreciates having Newbie as a friend, and they frequently meet up outside of promotions. Gale has recently started to mention a desire to collaborate with this plotline at some point.
— Mentor, Soyou ☆ 24 ☆ Idol/SISTAR ☆ motherly, mature, driven. ☆ Through training. ☆ As the only other active girl group Starship Ent. has, SISTAR and R!OT are bound to be close and the younger group learn from their sunbaes. Soyou has a strong maternal instinct, making her baby the others, and Gale found comfort in that, since she's usually the one doing the babying. Soyou is Mom #2, and although she's much busier than Bora, Gale still really admires and looks up to her.
— My... Child?, Yugyeom ☆ 18 ☆ Idol/GOT7 ☆ eager, rebellious, jokester. ☆ Through Mark. ☆ While befriending GOT7 and being the motherly person she is, Gale immediately took to babying their baby maknae, Yugyeom. She realizes that she really shouldn't, GOT7 does that enough, but she can't help it, especially since he actually does aegyo for her. Sometimes he even calls her "mom" and she'll respond with "my child~". He calls her rarely, and when he does she talks his ear off, asking him how he is and how he's eating, if the other boys are taking care of him, and he'll respond "You just saw me last week!" and she'll retort with "That doesn't mean things don't change! Now tell your mom everything."

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT MARRIAGE? ☆  Ah, well... *laughs* I can't say I have a serious outlook on it. I think it'd be nice to be married, but since I was raised in the U.S., I don't necessarily see it as a necessity? But, if I found the right person... WHY DID YOU AGREE TO THE SHOW? ☆  Honestly? This is a good show to test out if I'd like marriage or not! Like I said before, I don't have a serious outlook on it, but maybe, if I tried it... It might just change my mind. *Smiles* Does that make sense? Or is my Western mindset too backwards? *laughs*

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU LOOK FOR IN A PARTNER? ☆  Oh geez.. *blushes* Intelligence. Intelligence is very attractive to me, and a smile. A smile seems very superficial, but... you can tell a lot about a person by a smile and what they're smiling at. It's especially beautiful when someone lights up with one when they talk about something their passionate about. Passion... it's really wonderful to watch and have. So... I guess that? Aaaah *squeals* I'm being so cheesy~

I wouldn't be surprised if you paired me up with Mark. *laughs* People are always telling me that we need to just get married already *laughs even more* Oh man, but you wouldn't get any good footage there! WHAT MISSIONS WOULD YOU LIKE ON THE SHOW? WHAT WOULD YOU HATE? ☆  Oh! I'd like to do like, actual domestic things. It sounds boring, but I'd like to get a feel of actual married life without the glamour. Maybe grocery shopping or getting a pet? I'd like a dog... But I'd hate anything that involves facing fears. Honestly, I would cry. *deadpanned face* And I'm an ugly crier. You don't want to broadcast that! Please, PD-nim, don't make me do it! *puppy eyes*

HOW DO SCANDALS AFFECT A RELATIONSHIP? ☆  So it's going to be like that huh? *smiles and sighs* Well, they aren't very good, I think, especially the dating scandals. They cause distrust, because gossip magazines always produce the WORST possible situation and photos! Trust me, I would know. Distrust and overall suspcision can cause such a huge rift in a relationship. After all, what is a relationship without trust? You can't love someone without it.

PERSONALITY ☆  You know that new internet saying, "Looks like they could kill you, but is actually a cinnamon roll"? Because that pretty much sums up Namjoon. He tries to give off a super intense, intimidating vibe (and being as tall as he is, it works) but underneath that all he's just a loveable goofball who cares a lot. He's the leader, so even though he's not the oldest, he takes responsibilty on checking on every member of his group to make sure that they're happy, healthy and ready to perform. He's extremely intelligent but is humble enough not to flaunt it at every opportunity, but if someone tries to belittle him, you bet he's gonna outwit you with terms you probably have never heard of. He makes mistakes, sometimes really bad ones, that sort of get out of hand within the international fan world. When that happens, he gets very down on himself. He has so much pressure on him all the time, not only from his company, but internationally. People expect him to have everything figured out, but he doesn't. He's still so young and bound to make mistakes and try to learn. He hates disappointing people, especially his fans, so when they express dissatifaction he gets really depressed and throws himself into his work, tryign to prove himself again and again and doesn't already realize that he doesn't need to do that.

NICKNAMES ☆  Joonie-Oppa (It started off as a joke, but Gale likes calling him that, especially when she's trying to be cute and get something out of him), Namjoon (Even on camera, she does not call him Rap Monster.), Babe (Accidental but it became a common nickname between the two of them).

SHIPPING NAME ☆  They're announced as the "Scandal Couple", but are given "Smile Couple" because of their smiles, "BrainSmart" because they're intelligent but lack common sense, and fans have recently dubbed them as "RapGale" or "Galjoon". 

INTERACTIONS ON CAMERA ☆  On camera, they're very awkward at skinship and missions, usually taking a longer time than most couples. Some fans speculate that it's because they like spending more time together, but most people think it's because even though they are intelligent, they lack common sense, thus earning their nickname "BrainSmart Couple". Gale usually acts cute, trying to get him to smile, while Namjoon usually tries and save himself from embarrassment. Occasionally the two will talk in English on camera, especially when Gale is confused and can't get her Korean straight in her head. While Gale doesn't see it, Namjoon pays special attention to her, his eyes almost never leaving her whenever she's not close by. He frequently comments on how cute she is, even though her stubborness will be the end of him, because they'll never reach a consentual decision because of this shared trait. Gale never stops trying to make him happy, always asking about his music and taking genuine interest in him as a person, not just as a boy band member. 

INTERACTIONS OFF CAMERA ☆  If I told you that it'd ruin part of the storyline, wouldn't it /u\ As an example though, if they were different, "They're more natural off set with each other, because the pressure of the cameras isn't constantly around them. When they can, they speak in English so the others don't really know what they're talking about. Most people will say that they act more like a married couple off screen than on." As vague as I can manage ~ :>

FIRST MEETING ☆  Even though Gale is an avid fan, and they've promoted on msuic programs at the same time, Gale has only been an observer, one time even running away when she saw Bangtan were filming for Behind the Scenes. Bora has yet to let this go and likes to about it. Dao is also a terrible child and laughs whenever it's mentioned.

OTHER ☆  With time, Namjoon and Gale could be a great couple, but they've got some personality clashes and personal obstacles to overcome. As part of the story, I won't ruin the ending for you! But, as of now, it's a 50/50 chance. Your couple doesn't HAVE to stay together after the show ends!
