Well... the fact that you tried is what counts.

I highly suggest that you practice with some basic tutorials. Youtube has a ton for both photoshop and gimp, so I do recommend starting there first. Oh, and learning simple blending and filter techniques might be in your best interest as well. Also how to render (cut out background from picture).
