• Japanese: She speaks broken Japanese because in high school, she had to pick a second language to learn, and decided to learn Japanese. She was never into learning the new language, though.
personality
Cha Ara looks like the nice girl everyone wants to get along with. She's always smiling and talking formally, people always seems to compare the nasty girls to her "sweet" and "delightful" personality. They can't wait to hear what comes out of those sweet honey-lips that she uses to speak—oh, but they shoudn't. Nothing sounds good whenever she tries to do something else besides talking.
Excluding her kind attitude and her charming appearance, Ara has nothing. She's dumb, she can't sing anything, she can't dance for her life, and she certainly can't rap without getting her tongue all twisted. The worst part is, she knows that she . She knows that she's not fit to live like the other hundreds of talented folks out there. Why should she ever live when she wasn't going to attribute anything to society? It just made no sense to her. She constantly got low grades in elementary, middle, and high school, and even failed the college entrance exams.
Ara is quiet in front of strangers, and that's mostly because of what happened in elementary school. She was bullied by guys who had a crush on her, and she had no choice but to stay quiet so that she wouldn't burden her family. This eventually led her to hide all her desires and thoughts inside, and to coop up with depression. In times when she wants to vent out her frustration and disappointment, she would write them in her journal, which is filled with negative thoguhts and events that occured throughout her life. Without her journal, she would be crying.
When Ara is surrounded by a few close friends, she becomes perky. She's the one who tries to liven up the mood even though she's the cause of the problem. She's the one who would fake innocence and try to put the past in the past. If her perkiness doesn't help the situation, then she'll most likely resort to crying because she's sensitive inside. When that happens, people outside of the group pities her and begins to shoot deathglares to the members to made her cry. Of course, that's only if she doesn't have her journal in her hand. If she does have the journal in her hand, then she'd dash out of the room, find a quiet place, and begin to scribble on.
When it comes to love, Ara tries to be as honest as she can. She doesn't want to have those secret relationships or hurt each other because of secrets. Since she's very passive in love, she accepts any confession from whoever confesses to her. However, she only dates that one person until the person who asked her out asks to break-up. Even if she catches her boyfriend cheating, she lets him do as he wants until he gets tired of her. When she does find out that they are cheating on her, she tries everything to get the guy to break up with her. A part of this is because she doesn't want to hurt their feelings, but another part is that she wants to look like the vicitm in the relationship (and she wants to exaggerate this to make the guy look guilty).
Ara never felt beautiful. Whenever she looks in the mirror, she could only see herself as an average girl. She doesn't understand why people want to date others for looks. She thinks having a pretty face is a pointless pride, and because of this, lots of girls seem to hate her. Her beauty wasn't going to get far. She's envious of people who have real talent. Being talented is one thing Ara truly wants, but she knows that she can't have it because she believes that taent is "something you're born with." Though that slowly changes when she's picked for Pinnochio, and she decides to use her beauty as her strong point, despite what everyone else says about her.
character background
On July 18th, 1994, Cha Ara was born in Incheon, South Korea at exactly 7:00 A.M. Her name was given by her grandfather (Cha Joonhwan), who wanted her to grow up beautifully like a song he liked to hum (아름다운 + 라라 = 아라). She was born into a low-income family, where her father (Cha Seungmin) was a mechanic and her mother (Park Hyeri) worked at the family's unsuccessful bakery. She was a single child because her parents were worried that they might not be able to support the second child. Many people told her parents that Ara should try modeling because she was adorable for a five-year old. However, her mother didn't want to do something without her daughter's consent (and her daughter was too young to understand what modeling was), and allowed her daughter to grow as she wanted.
In elementary, Ara was constantly being bullied by the boys in her class because nearly all of them had a crush on her. It was the type of situation where the boys were unable to express their feelings romantically and came out to be a lot more harsh. As they used to say, "If a boy teases you, he likes you." Then came Kim Subin, Ara's best friend in Incheon. She was the one who tried to chase the boys away and protected Ara until her parents found out that she was being bullied. Due to money problems and the news that Ara was being pushed around at school, they decided to move to Miryang, where her grandfather was living alone in an apartment he owned. Ara was disheartened when she had to live Subin, but was convinced that one day, they would meet again. Since the time they parted, they have never met.
For the remaining years of her elementary school, she found out how to get along with her new classmates, whom she deemed as to be strange because they had a dialect that made it hard for her to understand. In middle school, Ara was known to be one of the most popular and attractive girls at her school. Despite her cute appearance, she had trouble at school. Her parents, who opened up another bakery when they had moved to Miryang, tried to help her with her studies, but stopped once they realized that Ara wasn't fit to study. She often began to daydream and wonder about her purpose in life—something that most teenagers begin to ask, and something that many more couldn't answer. She was beginning to find interest in love, dating, and getting a boyfriend. Her first boyfriend had dated her because of her looks, and the next three boyfriends also dated her for the same reason. After her fourth boyfriend broke up with her because she was "dull" and "not exciting as he had hoped she was" (reasons that other guys broke up with her for), she decided to wait until high school and hoped for a better boy to love.
In 2009, Ara was scouted by an LOEN Entertainment agent. She had met the agent at a café when she discovered that the agent had been eyeing at her for quite some time. He asked her to try for an audition, saying that if she didn't think she had talent now, they could help her find one. So, she did. She auditioned with her parent's aproval, and got in the first try. Since she was accepted at LOEN, she had to go to Seoul. So she finished up her middle school studies and for high school, she went to Seoul. From there, her thoughts of friendly competition was shattered when she realized that the audition process was a fierce competition to debut as early as the company would allow them to. She wanted to quit, but she decided to stay, believing that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that she just couldn't let go of. She trained all night, often commiting less of her time to school work compared to training.
Because she wanted to be more serious about training than love, she entered an all-girl's school in Seoul. For her, getting into an all-girl's school was the best choice she had ever made. Not only was her mind clear about deep romance, but she was able to be closer to her female friends. Her female-dominated classmates helped her with her schoolwork, shared test informations, and aided her in all kinds of other activities. Despite their help, by the end of the year, Ara failed into getting accepted by any college and decided to live with her parents a bit longer while she continued her training.
After 5 good years of training at LOEN, she was transferred to SM Entertainment because they believed that she would pass for her beauty. Were they right? Absolutely. Seeing Ara and her natural beauty, she was taken into the company and trained for an additional one year until she was chosen to be one of the members for Pinnochio. With absolutely no talent in singing, dancing, or rapping, Ara wondered what her purpose in the group would be. With the news that she would be the sub-vocalist and the face of the group, Ara found no confidence in being a star. She knows that she doesn't belong in the group, and she knows quite well why she got into the group. Nevertheless, she decided that it was time for her toughen up a bit and see her beauty as an advantage rather than a disadvantage for once. Was it her fault that she was born to be more alluring than the others?
Absolutely freaking not.

Trainee friends » Kang Seulgi (Red Velvet's Seulgi) : 21 : Social, Outgoing, Refreshing : During Ara's trainee years, she had Seulgi be the one person who helped her along the way. Seulgi is the one who always listens to Ara, but she also leaks out her problems to other people. She doesn't mean to spill secrets, but Seulgi is the one who goes on and on in conversation without knowing half the things she saw.
RIVAL
Rival: The Forfeit
Interaction: Ara and the Forfeit are often palced next to each other: beaty and the talent. Whether they are in line for a photoshoot or in a group photo, you will always see these two next to each other not because they are close, but because their positions complement each other. She pities the Forfeit for unable to debut as a solo singer, but for the first time, Ara thinks that she's helping with her beauty just by standing next to her and smiling for the camera with her. Unfortunately, she's taking up all the space in the photographs, leaving the Forfeit almost no room for her picture to be taken. But what can Ara do? She's beautiful, and she's just giving the cameraman what he wants.

LOVE INTEREST
" do you love me or am i just delusional? "
DO KYUNGSOO, D.O
Group: EXO
Age: 22

Personality: Do Kyungsoo is surprisingly mature in Ara's opinion. He's quiet and independent, much to her surprise. He speaks little, but that's because he's worried that he might say something bad. At first, Ara thinks—just like any girl—that he's a considerate man with observative wide eyes.
Of course, she—along with other girls—is wrong. This is just one way for Kyungsoo to up to people and find a way to take advantage of them. By keeping quiet and doing what he calls "people watching," he is able to figure out a person's weakness and use it to his own advantage. He's really sneaky and manipulative, often turning people against each other in a snap. He loves watching drama errupt, and when he notices that there's a ton of drama in the newest SM girlgroup, he sees this as his chance to play around with the girls and see what kind of monsterous motives these girls might develop.

History: Kyungsoo and Ara met when Piocchio were greeting their seniors. Ara, at first, feels a bit of someting when she meets Kyungsoo because he looks so responsible. When he tries to get her to talk about he feelings (he could tell when she's feeling trouble), she rejects his kindness and tells him that she's fine. That was the biggest mistake she had ever done. This led to Kyungsoo having his hands on her journal, revealing some nasty things she had written about people. From there, Kyungsoo forces her to join in his little game of drama and she has no choice but to obey his demands.
"Here, let me buy you that soda," Kyungsoo said. He reached over Ara's shoulder to put some coins into the coin slot. He pressed a button, and the vending machine rumbled a bit. From the bottom, an orange soda can popped out. Ara quickly bent down and took the can.
"T-Thank you," she stuttered, blushing a bit.
"No problem. You seemed to be in a bit of a trouble," Kyungsoo said. "Is there something going on?"
Yep. My group members are insane and I'm stuck with them until my contract ends, Ara thought, sighing. She forced a small grin. "No, nothing is wrong."
Kyungsoo kept his smile. "You sure?"
"Y-Yes," Ara stuttered.
"You sure?" Kyungsoo repeated. Ara awkwardly smiled at him, noticing that he had been keeping up the same smile for the past few conversations.
"Yes, I am very sure," Ara answered him.
Kyungsoo his lips. "Okay, then. If you say so. Don't regret not telling me your problems later."
"Y-Yessir. I ain't gonna regret it," Ara said, leaking out her dialect. She paled when she saw a dark smirk form on his lips, while a cold gush of wind caused the little hairs on the back of her neck to stand.
Interactions: Cold shivers running through Ara's spine when she sees Kyungsoo. He constantly takes her to follow people who seem to be getting in trouble. However, she still has a crush on him and she hates herself for liking her mischievious side.
Relationship: More like a puppet and and puppet master, or a pawn and a chess player. Kyungsoo is the one who orders Ara all around and forces her to tell him the juicy gossips.

INTERVIEW
Q. You probably mentioned this in your background already, but would you describe how you got into SM Entertainment and how you got chosen to be in Pinocchio?

→ H-H-Hello! The name's Cha Ara. I've been livin' in Miryang but I came to Seoul to fulfill ma dreams.
You have a dilaect.
Y-Yes, I do. /clears throat and takes deep breath to calm down/ I was training for five years in LOEN Entertainment. I wanted to debut in the same company where one of my favorite idols, IU, was at. However, a staff from LOEN suggested that I try out for SM because I might have a better chance of debut there. I can't help but think that they were right at that time because the reason why I got into LOEN was because they thought I was going to find a talent in singing, which didn't really happen. So, I auditioned for SM and was able to transfer there.
So are you implying that you can't sing? This is a girl group, you know. You need to know how to sing.
W-Well… /taps foot against the ground/ I think I can say that I'm not the best singer, but I am a decent one. At least, I think I'm a decent one.
Alright. Go on.
So I got into SM once I've auditioned. From there, a lot of people were telling me that I'd debut for looks, but I'm really hoping that's not the case. If I debut for only looks, then that kind of makes me feel bad for the other people. I think I'm pretty average.
But your looks might be your strength.
/glares for a moment, but flashes a small smile/ It might be, but I prefer it not to be.
Okay. Tell us how you got into Pinocchio.
Well, that's the funny part. Even though I said I didn't want to be chosen for my looks, I was chosen for my looks. I don't look as pretty as SNSD's Yoona or f(x)'s Sulli, but I heard that the staffs liked my "natural" look and that my eye-smile reminded people of SNSD's Tiffany. Some people told me that I look like a mix of Red Velvet's Seulgi and SNSD's Tiffany, so they thought that it would be nice to have me as the face of the group.
Q. What is your dream?

→ The dream…?
Yes. The dream. What do you want to do in the future, or what you want to get out of it.
I don't really have a big dream in particular. I guess it'd be nice to find some kind of talent for me to improve on. Actually, I might like to have my own entertainment company. I'd like to have a place where people can come in and experience a place where talentless people like me can be.
But some people are talented and come to entertainment companies.
/smiles/ Yes, that is true, but don't you think it'd be fun if people like me can shine just like the others? I'd love to give others the chance to have a taste of equal opportunity and fame (even though that's probably not the case).
Q. Do you have problems with the people in the company? The CEO, trainers – if so, explain why.

→ I don't think the trainers like me very much. The vocal coach always gives up on me when I can't go higher. The dance coach tells me to leave classes whenever I step inside to dance. The rapping coach definitely doesn't want to see me. They all say that I'm a shame as an idol... /lips tremble/ I don't mean to be such a s-shame…
O-Oh! Hey, don't cry! You know what, I'm pretty sure talent lies somewhere within that beautiful face of yours.
/wipes away tears, smiles/ Yes, that's what I'm hoping, too!

GOODBYE SUNSHINE
Comments: I was scrolling down blog posts, saw this, and thought it'd be interesting. My character is probably one that you aren't looking for but I just wanted to fill it in because it felt different from other apply fanfics.
Suggestions: Maybe one of the members can be in a drama, but they find out that another member stole that audition away or something. Idk. Or a cat fight at the dorm.
