eccentric // haneul is quite proud of calling himself this; he wouldn't want it any other way. he likes being original, something that stands out from others. 
ambitious // if he wants something, he will have it. 

easy-going // haneul is friendly, and easily adapts to different people and interests. he dislikes fights and arguments, and prefers to be laidback around everyone.

hot-headed // though he tries his best to maintain it, haneul's temper can rise up quickly.

talkative // the loud chatterbox of the group, haneul likes making sure everyone is included in the conversation and will make efforts to talk to everyone. he's comfortable with speaking on stage and in public, and can can hardly ever shut up. (of course, he knows his limits.)

choi haneul is defined as the life of the party. he's bright and quirky, enabling him to befriend others rather quickly. he soughts good relationships (though bad ones may happen) and maintains them by talking to his fellow friends and family every day. he is eloquent on television, maintaining a polite image, but is rowdy and playful out of camera. haneul enjoys spending time with his groupmates, making fun of them and always teasing thim with a wry smile. 
at times, he may speak in a cryptic way, causing those around him to gflash him a peculiar stare. as someone who can cover up their mistakes and accidents easily without any sign of embaressment, he brushes off his sudden thoughts and hastily blames it on watching too many psychological films. 
his constant enthusiasm may annoy many, and if he does not like a certain person, he will repeatedly badger them with over-exaggerated bubbliness until they become hostile. this amuses him very much, and thus, is nicknamed "" by a couple of the trainees that already dislike him.
haneul is relatively carefree, nonchalant to serious topics. he is calm and level-headed during dire situations, which intruiges many, many suspicions.

background —

choi haneul was born to a korean father and a caucasian mother. growing up, haneul had no trouble fitting in, quickly growing attached to a number of students. canada welcomed him, and he embraced it. haneul's hyperactive personality seemed to amuse his parents, who stated that he'd grow up to be a great entertainer. when haneul was five, his parents had another child--choi iseul. the two looked nothign alike, for haneul retained most of his mother's genes, while iseul had inheirited her father's. because of haneul's overwhelming influence on the community and school, iseul found it difficult to fit in--shy was shy and much more passive, and couldn't possibly match her brother's standards. she became problematic, and grew to resent her older brother. the two became entangled in hate; haneul solved his problems by slamming the door of his room in her face, and turning up hip hop.

needing a new environment, the family of four moved to daegu, where a fresh start could be made. haneul was only ten, hardly knowing any korean. after a year of international school, haneul became better and better at the language, and slowly started to make friends with his korean classmates. though they were initially hostile to haneul's foreign face, they soon were swooned over by his charm and eloquence. haneul continued to develop his skills, turnin to k-hiphop in an attempt to improve his speech. and it helped; the fast-paced words of san.e. and epik high soon became mother-tongue for him, and he began to speak with ease.

"what if i auditioned?"
the question catches his family off guard. his mom protests, his dad frowns upon it, and iseul scoffs.

(and he knew that iseul still hated him. he also knew that she loved k-pop and the hallyu culture.) to spite her, he added in. "i want to audition to s.m."

his mom refused over and over, despite haneul's begging, and his dad remained silent. iseul only laughed.
"if you think you can make it, then do so. but only one time."

determined to screw over his sister, he only grinned.
so he practiced dancing, rapping, and singing. he watched the videos, did his best to imitate them, and pretended to converse with the mirror. he does it for a straight three years.
and at fifteen, he auditions.

at fifteen, he raps to epik high's wannabe.

at fifteen, he dances to 2PM's again and again.

at fifteen, he makes it.

 

"i'm going to make your life a living hell,"
iseul hisses. 

 

because once again, haneul has overshadowed her.

           

lifestyle — 

haneul is quite content with his life. he calls his parents every now and then, and updates them on his life. people still stare at him, but no one dares to make fun of him or treat him as a foreigner. he develops many friendships with the idols around him, and his life revolves around the door. he's happy. very, very happy.

"you--" the line goes dead, and haneul only shakes in anger at the realization.

the phone calls come and go, and every once in a while, a small scandal pops up, involving him. his hateclub grows, with the president of it feeding them real information predebut haneul.
"kyungsoo is really nice once you get to know him. too bad you can't seem to do that, hm?" he laughs coldly.
a screech of rage surges through his ears, as haneul hangs up in content.
he says nothing, though the abhorrence for his sister only goes stronger and stronger by the day. he grows more hostile and irritable; more rash and thoughtless with his actions. nonetheless, he calms after a while, and profusely apologizes to those he has lashed out on.

relationship with other trainees/idols in sm — though most were hostile an cold to him, haneul's persistance and geniune admiration for his seniors have earned him affection. he maintains good relations, and is not afraid to approach anyone. some idols have expressed annoyance at him, but haneul does not mind; as long as they don't screw around with him, he will remain content. he likes prying into other idols' and trainees' problems, amusing himself with their complicated love-hate drama.
