Can anyone play the guitar?

Hey guys ^.^

So, I've been interested in learning how to play the acoustic guitar for a while now, and I think I'm considering actually buying one (finally!). I can't afford lessons (hell, I can barely afford the guitar) but I'm planning on teaching myself through books and the internet and stuff. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to play the guitar, and if you have any tips for beginners.

I think I'm going to buy a 38" six string acoustic guitar...am I starting at the right place?

Wish me good luck! (I'm gonna need it lol)

Thank you!

I play guitar, acoustic mainly, some time electric or bass. I will have been playing for 4 years or so by early September.
Open strings (when you aren't holding down)
6th= E
5th= A
4th= D
3rd= G
2nd= B
1st= E
Or as I remember it
Elephants
And
Donkeys
Grow
Big
Ears

And when playing chords alwAys apply pressure! IF YOUR FINGERS DON'T HURT YOUR DOING IT WRONG! That's my tips from me and my guitar teacher for you! :)

Waaaaa~~~ Good luckkkkk!! <3 Well, i have an electric guitar but i don't really know how to play ... Some time ago i knew to play Gackt's Last song but i forgot everything. What i want to say to you is : do not give up because it'll be hard. But once you'll learn something, may be something so little, you'll be so happy, trust me, it's a great feeling. And it's okay if you can't afford lessons, because you are able to learn alone through books and the internet as you've said. I'm so excited for you and please keep us informed about your actions! I can't wait to know how well you're going to play the guitar hhehehe ~~ *huggies* and Fighting!~

I'm still here waiting for the day when I can actually play one lol. My cousin is a pro at it. He tried teaching me it and I literally broke my hands, but it gets easier once you get the hang of it. You just need lots of practice, and you'll be fine. I'm pretty sure you can find some really good learning tutorials for beginners on youtube. They have a bunch of talented people on there.

I have been playing guitar for around 11 years and now I teach my niece so if you have any questions you'd like to ask feel free to ask me. I don't know what size you are but a 38" could be good for learning on yes. If you know anyone that plays and could get them to accompany you buying your guitar that would be great (if you're buying it in a shop) or at least check out some reviews of the specific models. Since you're pushing you budget to get the guitar it's worth making sure you're getting one that is at least half decent. Also if possible I would really recommend trying out any guitar you're thinking of buying. You might feel awkward since you can't play yet (I know I did when my brother took me shopping) but you need to get the feeling of the neck size as you'll have to be able to reach all the strings to make the chord shapes properly. Even just comparing two or three guitars should be able to help you get the feel for the size and if it suits. The first guitar I played (which didn't belong to me) had quite a wide neck so I found certain chords more difficult so when I got my own my brother thankfully helped me get one which wasn't too wide (a shop assistant can also help with this). Some people say go for nylon strings to start but if you want to enjoy the sound I would consider the steel strings even though they'll hurt more to start with as it's much harder to get a clean sound on nylon strings. And my other tip is play little and often rather than trying large chunks of time. Even doing one thing for a few minutes a day is great! Hope it goes well!! ♥

I do play guitar, I've been playing for about a year or less. I'm telling you, it's worth it. It's such a beautiful instrument and it's fun to play. Start with the basic chords like C, Em, and G to get you going. Then when you feel more comfortable incorporate the bar chords (they're not always as fun lol >.<) I really recommend some professional guitar players on YouTube, they teach you how to pick and learn songs and tips as well. I recommend buying a tuner (the little electric ones) to tune the guitar easily then eventually you can do it by ear. It's going to hurt your fingers in the beginning but if you continuously play, callouses build up and it won't be bothersome. Good luck!^^ Message me if you need anything else. (Also I started with a guitar whose neck was smaller that fitted my hand so my fingers could wrap around it easier.)

DO IT \o/
I've played since I was about ten. I'm not great, but it's honestly one of the best stress-relievers for me \o/
Start acoustic because the strings are harder, then if you go electric the transition will be much much smoother \o/ it will hurt your fingertips yes, but the callouses that build up will eventually make it so you don't feel anything. I do recommend trying to learn with a pick at first because I learnt by strumming with my fingers and it took me longer to play with a pick because of it
good luck \o/\o/
