Rabid fans and 'bomb threats' AKA EXO-Ls(PH) vs VIPs (PH)

Okay so let me tell you guys a story I'm sure you guys have heard.

EXO and BIGBANG are promoting their comeback at the same time this time.

Of course, as fans, we are entitled to support our bias group(s) whenever they start promoting for their comeback. From time to time, some fans might get upset when their bias group is in the same running with another group that we feel is a threat to our bias group from winning the music shows. I sure as hell won't lie to you when I say that I feel utterly conflicted about all the girl groups making a comeback this summer (well, their summer period, since mine is about to end in a few weeks' time), because some of my bias girl groups are going head-to-head with each other.

But to actually call on a "bombing" towards BIGBANG just because they're promoting the same time that EXO is?

I'm utterly ashamed of the fandom, even more so that the "threat" came from a Filipino EXO-L. I'm ashamed to face any international EXO-L, much less actual Korean EXO-Ls, because this news gives us the image that we're crazed in this country.

In a sense, we are, but that's an issue inherently bigger than this.

I get that the person who called on the "bombing" was joking, in a sort of macabre way I guess, but still, to make a joke about bombing a boy group just because of that menial reason? The person made a (somewhat-frantic) post that they were just joking and even recognized it as a bad joke, and that they had erased the post as soon as they realized its implications, but the news spread fast and it found itself in Allkpop.

There are certain things you can joke about. EXO's teaser photo that shows them in football uniforms yet using baseball caps is funny. BIGBANG's "Bang Bang Bang" choreography matching perfectly with KARA's "Mamma Mia" choreography is worth chuckles. "Threatening" to "bomb" a group of male idols is not, and will never be, funny nor even eligible enough for a joke.

The worst thing here is that it was an impulse post regardless of being a joke or not. Sub-or-unconsciously, there is an intent of doing so if there was an actual and plausible way of doing so. Consciously, one might think that a "threat" like that would be absurd, but if the thought had so much as even crossed one's mind, even more when one does post something like that out of impulse, there's a problem there. It's comparable to having suicidal thoughts without having conscious intent of doing so - there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

And in this case, it's how rabid fans can get.

There's nothing wrong with being a little competitive, especially if it's a young group such as EXO against practically one of the kings of K-Pop. It's healthy to be a little competitive, even, because then we have a driving force to support them in every way possible (I got really competitive for VIXX's Love Equation comeback, and participated in all activities that would affect their standing and eventual win for music shows where international fans can also influence the score). But to be competitive in such a way that makes us wish harm or endangerment towards the adversary? We have to draw the line somewhere.

We need to stop this sort of behavior before it becomes the image of the fandom, especially for the Filipino EXO-Ls. If the thought of this sort of behavior where we threaten other groups, joke or not, and display petty behavior makes us quite comparable to sasaengs does not put the point across, then ask yourselves this: What would our biases say about our behavior? You think Sehun or Kai or D.O. or Chanyeol or Baekhyun or Suho or Xiumin or Chen or Lay, or even Luhan or Kris or Tao, would be proud of what we are doing? Of how we are acting?

Or better yet, is starting internet wars and getting ridiculous controversies just because of Korean idols that are paid to make us feel special, when they don't even know any of us even on an acquaintance level, worth any of the aggravation? Let me answer that for you: IT'S NOT. It never will be worth it, because in the end, it's the boys' effort, not ours, that will determine their success. Getting aggressive or aggravated over things like these doesn't do anything other than make us all look bad. And trust me, EXO-Ls do not need any more (sorry for the language) that will make us look even worse than what we look now.

(Okay the last question was somewhat insensitive, but it's true. Damnit, I've been listening to Adam Buckley too much.)

In spite of all of these, however, I would like to, in behalf of the EXO-Ls in the Philippines, apologize to all VIPs, especially the Filipino ones, because of the insensitive "bombing" joke that a fellow EXO-L made. It is a cruel, awful joke and I'm sure that the original poster is truly sorry for what they did, and trust me when I say that EXO-L PH are quite tame and we're quite friendly despite all of these.

So yeah. Good luck to EXO, BIGBANG, and all the other groups/idols who have made their comebacks! Keep working hard but remember to rest! And to us, the fans, happy summer to those on vacation, good luck to those who still have exams, and enjoy school to those who have now gone back (*coughs* Filipino stans *coughs*)!
