I have no idea why. I was putting chapters back up, refreshed the main page, and BAM! Trigger warning, friends only, unlisted. There's no new report on it and no warning or reasoning from any mods (though we've had that discussion already, so I think at this stage I do trust them to actually say something before taking action), so... site glitch? I don't know. I've been able to take it off friends only and unlisted, but obviously I can't remove the trigger warning myself.
Naturally, I'm quite upset that this has happened. I've had a horrible few weeks with panic attacks, then TBBC got plagiarised, and now I'm back to square minus one with unfair ratings.
I mean, I rated any chapters that might conceivably come close to needing ratings, and there weren't that many. Only four. And none of them required trigger warnings.
In fact, according to the site content guidelines:
User Posts containing adult-themed content of an explicit or highly objectionable nature must be marked with a Trigger Warning when submitted. Any post may also be marked with a Trigger Warning by a member of the ASIANFANFICS community if the material is considered highly objectionable.
Considering that stuff that's considered in need of an M rating is this:
Adult-themed content includes frequent explicit language, , ual acts, violence to oneself or another, and/or illicit subject matter.
and consensus was reached that TBBC doesn't need an overall M rating, I'd take something needing a TW to be extreme depictions of anything rated M, for example, explicit depictions of , graphic self harm and suicide, graphic and extreme abuse, and extreme gore and violence.
TBBC doesn't have any of that. Any themes that there are that relate to any of those are light in depiction, which doesn't tally with explicit or highly objectionable, and nor are they graphic or explicit in depiction, if they are depicted at all.
If this is because of the main character having PTSD, then I'm so done. She doesn't hurt herself or do anything damaging or triggering, and if her having nightmares and panic attacks (which are lightly described and usually in terms of somebody trying to calm her down than with any dark and oppressive thoughts going through her head) genuinely merits a trigger warning, then stories depicting anybody with any kind of mental illness, or hugely upsetting terminal illness, might as well be prescribed an automatic TW even if the mental state of the character is not leading them to harm themselves and description and treatment of the illness at hand isn't graphic. And automatically ascribing depictions of mental illness, regardless of whether treatment of it is light or extremely dark and heavy, is very, very unfair and marginalising to all those who suffer from mental illnesses, and only goes to further compound the stigma we've spent years trying to lift.
I'm very frustrated by this. It's unfair.
