She initially participated in Jellyfish Entertainment's auditions, auditioning with Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You, a song she specifically chose to show off her skills and her amazing vocal range. She chose that company because she was too nervous to try auditioning at bigger entertainment companies yet.
She has heard many things about how being a trainee is really hard, because you have no guarantee that you will debut, but she used this thought as a motivation for her to do better and to learn more. At first, she struggled keeping up with the other trainees because of her lacking dancing skills. Every time they would learn a new choreography, she could almost feel the other trainees sneering at her behind her back. She took the initiative to talk to Jellyfish's dance mentor, who was, fortunately, nice enough to agree to give her extra dance classes to improve her dancing. Her mentor also suggested that she take ballet classes to improve her flexibility, and jazz to help her coordination. As a result, her trainee schedule, was fully packed, and she barely had any time to sleep. She had dance practice in the morning, vocal lessons in the afternoon, and ballet and jazz classes until late at night. Most of the time, she even goes back to the practice room after her jazz classes to have vocal practice again.
A year into her training, and her fellow trainees began telling her that Jellyfish isn't planning to debut a girl group or even a solo artist in the near future. She was working hard, but she was hoping to debut sooner, because she misses her family, and she was looking forward to seeing them. She wanted to show her mother that she can be successful as an artist, so she left Jellyfish and auditioned for JYP. This time, she decided to take a chance and show her rapping skills. She got accepted, but the JYP panelists commented on how she needs to improve her dancing skills yet again, so she continued the routine she had when she was in Jellyfish. The only difference was, the trainees in JYP were friendlier and some even offered to help her practice. She grew to love the JYP people, and she thought that this is the perfect place for her to help her become a star. Unfortunately, fate was against her. It was a tradition between YG and JYP trainees to go against each other, and that was what exactly happened. She was one of the trainees that took part in the battles, and YG was particularly interested in her, especially her unique voice and her ability to rap in freestyle. As soon as the battles ended, YG and JYP had an agreement, and they exchanged trainees, Cassie being one of them. She almost refused to leave JYP, firstly because she had come to love everyone in JYP, and secondly, she knew how harsh the training is in YG. She eventually came to her senses, and became a YG trainee.
She knew how YG's training really pushed you to your limits, and she almost gave up, but she couldn't back down, not when she was so close to her dream. She held on to her parents' promise of moving to Korea when she debuts, and she used that to fuel her passion that she kept burning even in her darkest times. Eight months into her training, she was added to a group of girls, unnamed yet, but somehow, she felt even more closer to reacher her dream. She was awkward at first, not knowing how to act around her future groupmates, but they eventually broke the ice, and turned their relationships into a sisterhood, where even in the midst of all the hardships they face, they have nothing to fear, because they have each other's backs.

On the 21st of April 1995, Lee Gyeo Ul, or Cassandra, was born in a hospital in Los Angeles at exactly 4:45 am. Her parents were pure Koreans who migrated to the U.S. becasue of business matters. Her two older brothers were born in Korea. Her brothers were 5 years old and 3 years old when her parents moved to the U.S. At the time, her father's company (he is an architect) was facing a crisis, a bankruptcy. As a result, her father became jobless, and her family reached the point where they couldn't even three full meals a day. This continued on for almost a year, and they lived off on her mother running extra jobs. Fortunately, her father got a new job in another company, and he worked his way from being an assistant to the company's main designer in three years. After the family got settled again, her parents decided to have another child. After Cassandra was born, she was completely pampered by her family, being the only daughter. Every night, her mom would read to her, and that is where she got her love for books. In the morning, she would always wake up to her father playing his beloved records, and there were even times when he would just sit next to her and sing while playing his guitar. Growing up, she would always spend time with her brothers, whether it be biking around the neighborhood or just jamming along to some songs.
At first, her family was disappointed in her for choosing music over her studies. She was doing so well in school, and she was originally set on becoming a lawyer. Her brothers were very understanding about it, and they supported her. Her father was secretly delighted in her decision, but he didn't tell her because it was against her mother's wishes. Eventually, her mother came to accept her decision and that was when she decided to audition to Jellyfish. Before she moved to Korea, her mother made her promise not to come back without any success, and also promised her that her family will follow her and move to Korea once she becomes successful.

▪ Lee Dongsun | Father | Her father is a hardworking man, a trait Cassie got ever since she was young. He treated Cassie like a princess ever since she was young, and although secretly, he was Cassie's first and biggest supporter when she decided to pursue music.
▪ Lee Minhee | Mother | Her mother is a stern woman. She tries to be strict around her kids to train them to be disciplined, but at the same time, she loves seeing her kids have fun and do what they love, so she eventually agreed to Cassie being an idol.

He absolutely loves Cassie, and can be too overprotective sometimes like that one time he threatened her friends that if they try and make a move on her or ask her out, he'll beat them to a pulp. He's Cassie's music buddy, and he was the one who taught her how to play the piano.
▪ Lee Haneul (Ethan) | Brother | He takes after his mother, but is more laid-back. He's more chill with Cassie having a lot of friends that are guys, but he's actually really caring and sweet too. Like Cassie, he's a huge nerd, (whereas Johnny will just walk by while rolling his eyes, saying, "You guys are such nerds, you're embarrassing," and the two will run over to him and tackle him) and they often talk about different subjects such as literature, and was Cassie's math tutor.

▪ Peyton Smith | childhood bestfriend | They met during their elementary days, and they've been best friends ever since. They still kept in touch through messages and video calls, and they keep each other updated of what's happening in their lives.
▪ Troy Evans | twin brother bestfriend | He understands Cassie in such a way that no one ever could, and because of that, she treats him like her twin. He did fall for Cassie once, but she turned him down, telling him that her love for him is completly platonic, and that has zero chances of being anything else. He was heartbroken, but he understood her and tried his best to move on.
▪ Song Mino | bestfriend | They met in YG, when Mino accidentally passed by the practice room where Cassie was practicing rapping alone in the middle of the night. As soon as he heard her rap, he became interested, and he actually sat behind the door for almost an hour, just listening to her rap. Mino helped her improve her rapping, and even brought her to underground rap battles when Winner was on a break. Mino reminds Cassie of her older brothers, and he's one of the few people she goofs around with.
▪ Kim Donghyuk | little bro bestfriend | She met Donghyuk through Mino, and was actually really surprised and pleased to find out that he's kind of a nerd too. She often gives him logical arguments, which he will respond to through very long text messages or a sarcastic one-liner.
▪ CL | mentor/unnie | CL is like the big sister Cassie never had. She often gives her tips on writing music, and has laughed out loud at Cassie more than several times because of her dancing. However, she helped Cassie dance better too, and has given her advice on improving her "feel" when she's onstage.
▪ Lee Gikwang | close friends | After she got featured in one of Beast's music video, they became close and he would be the first one to notice if something was bothering her.
▪ Lee Hongbin | bestfriend crush | She met Hongbin when she was in Jellyfish, and he knew everything about her like the back of his hand. Whenever she was feeling down, he would always know what she needed to make her feel better, and he would always be there for whatever she needs, whether it be cheering up, ice cream, a shopping buddy, or just to hang out.

Hongbin gives you the vibe of being a laid back kind of guy, but deep inside, he is panicky (like am I doing it right? panicky). He is sweet and caring, and it can be seen from the way he treats his friends. He has a great sense of humor, but he's one of the quieter ones in his group. He is exceptionally passionate and determined. He never forgets to thank his fans, and remains humble and down-to-earth. He can always be seen with a smile on his face, and it's rare to see him angry.

They met way back when she was still in Jellyfish, when he was on the way home, and Cassie was on the way back to the training center to get more practice. He was intrigued, and somehow confused, why a girl would walk all alone outside, in the middle of the night. He was about to enter his home, when he heard a shriek. He rushed to her without a second thought, thinking that she was assaulted by someone, only to find her alone:
"Uh, miss? What's wrong?" He asked, slowly making his way towards her.
Cassie staightened up in surprise when she heard his voice.
"Who are you?" She asked warily, "Don't come close, or you'll never see the light of day again." She threatened, holding her umbrella out as a weapon.
"Hey, I'm not going to do anything to you." He calmly stated while holding up his hands in surrender despite her agressiveness. "I just thought I heard you shriek, and I thought you needed help."
Cassie blinked, now seeing his face clearly, and put her umbrella down, laughing sheepishly, "Oh, I accidentally stepped into a puddle and wet my favourite sneakers, that's why. I thought you were one of those erted drunkards. Sorry."
"On the contrary, I am your savior." He chuckled.
Since then, they became closer, and Hongbin would occasionally barge in on her solo practices, pointing out her mistakes or sometimes just hanging around. Cassie would always tell him to go home and rest, but he would always insist on waiting for her because he didn't want her walking around all alone again. As soon as Hongbin mentions this, Cassie would immediately soften up and let him stay. There were times when he would fall asleep on the couch in the practice room, while hugging anything he lays his hands on (for example, Cassie's backpack) and seeing him like this instantly brings a huge smile on her face. She would immediately take a picture of him, and about it later on. Hongbin is very sensitive when it comes to her, and he would immediately sense it when someting is bothering her. He knows how she doesn't like to be bothered when something is wrong. He'll do the opposite and continuously bug her, but he'll always knows how to make her feel better:
"Cassie." Hongbin said as he sat beside her.
"Go away." She mumbled, burying her face behind her favorite pillow.
"Cassie." He insisted.
"No, go away. How did you even get in my apartment?"
He grinned, "I know where you keep your keys."
She groaned in response, "What do you want?"
"I know you're not feeling fine, so I brought you ice cream."
Upon hearing his words, Cassie immediately looked at him with a small smile, "Cookies and cream?"
"What else?" He chuckled, before handing her a spoon.
Casie never told him this, but she really is greatful to have a someone like Hongbin, who'd always go out of his way just for her. She would often look for little ways to repay him, and she would always cheer him on when his group performs. When Hongbin found out that Cassie is going to debut in a girl group, he was beyond happy:
"I'm so happy for you." He beamed, ruffling her hair fondly, "You're finally reaching my level," he said jokingly.
"Oh please," Cassie replied, feigning an eyeroll, "I've always been above you." She replied with a playful grin.
Hongbin clicked his tongue while shaking his head disapprovingly, "You haven't debuted yet, but you're already letting the fame get into your head. You should stay humble, my little penguin." He laughed, "But I'm really proud of you, Cassie. I always knew you'd do well." He beamed proudly.

Leo is a huge introvert, and he prefers keeping to himself. He is usually quiet, and this gives him time to think and observe. However, once you manage to break through his shell, you'll see that he's just a huge ball of fluff. He has a soft spot for animals, especially puppies. Whenever Cassie and Leo are together, Cassie mostly does the talking, and Leo usually does the listening. Leo is always the person she goes to whenever she just needed someone to just listen, because she always found the silence that hung around Leo comforting. She would often just to see him smile. She loved seeing his smile, and hearing him laugh, especially when it's because of her. When Cassie talks, Leo takes the time to looks at her, and observe her, and by now, he's already memorized the way her eyes light up when she talks about her dream of performing on a big stage, or how she would bite her lip when she's nervous, or how her laugh sounded like when she's completely happy. He would often show his affection for Cassie through subtle skinship, such as a hand on her back or letting her sleep on his shoulder.
"Hey, Leo. Can't sleep?" Cassie greeted the former on the phone. He had called at three o'clock in the morning, when Cassie was just on the way home. She wedged her phone between her ear and her shoulder while she threw her stuff in her bag, too tireed to even bother.
"Hmm." He hummed in agreement. "You're pulling an all-nighter again, aren't you?"
Cassie let out a light laugh. He knew her too well.
"I'm on my way home now." She answered, slinging her backpack over her shoulder and heading out the door.
"Wait for me, I'm coming to fetch you. Don't argue."
