ChanKai's Issues Schmissues :/

I just had to get this out of my system because I have nobody else to rant it out too and just you guys who would probably be some kind of affected with this issue. WARNING: This is loooong...

First of all, I am writing this down because it has dwindled my muses to muted because my burning feels felt like they were doused with cold water and it has affected on how will my fic 'Fantasia vs Cuddles' will be updated. I was going to update it the moment I got out of tumblr but now...

I had to write this down.

If you haven't known what the issue is about before this, EXO made an appearance in Sukira. They've been on the show multiple times, right?

Okay, so there was this segment (I think, I'm not sure of the exact mechanics because I haven't watched the whole show yet) where you will throw a question to the person on your left. Jongin happens to sit on Chanyeol's left side so Chanyeol would be the one throwing a question at him (no need for answers though, just a question). What Chanyeol casually said was

Kai, why don't you consider skin whitening?

I know that this is not the first time that we heard Chanyeol saying something like this. He has joked about Jongin's darker skin for countless of times already. We may have been used to it because we know that Chanyeol was just joking

BUT

we also know that Jongin easily gets offended by these Kkamjong jokes. We've seen him put on a straight, even pissed off, face when this topic is brought up. One instance where I felt really bad for him was in EXOST when they were on a stop over at ep 5, I think (when they went to the beach). It wasn't even just Chanyeol then, BaekYeol were joking around and Jongin replied, "Yeah, I'm the dark kid" with a lifeless expression. :|

It's a joke, yes, and Chanyeol was just trying to lighten up the mood but I'm pretty sure that he or the other members would have noticed Jongin's dislike on the jokes made on his skin. So this joke should've stopped long ago.

BUT IT DIDN'T

Actually, I'm pretty much disappointed with Chanyeol now and he's even on top of my bias list -_-

I know that he's not intending to offend Jongin or anything but he does. He should've seen it for so many times already and yet he continues with the jokes. :(

AND NOW PEOPLE IN TUMBLR AND INSTAGRAM ARE RAISING HELL ON PARK CHANYEOL

There were even death threats and lots of insults under Yeol's latest IG post (the one with Junmyeon wearing earphones)

I've got to admit that even Yeol is a bias of mine, I am not approving of those kinds of jokes because it simply offends a friend, another member, an almost brother but I'm not going to go as far as condemning the guy. :/ I believe that Chanyeol isn't a bad person and he apologizes quickly once his mistake is pointed out to him.

So why can't those people bashing and threatening him just point out that, "Chanyeol-ssi, we think that your joke was a little too much."

Is it that hard to say?

Those 'self-righteous' people who said hurtful words on Yeol because they are defending Jongin, just stop, okay? Have you thought on how Jongin would feel if he finds out that he;s the reason why 'fans' are attacking Chanyeol? We all know that even if Jongin is y as on stage, he's a warm-hearted baby so how will he react on those stupid comments? How?!

You know that these guys are reading their SNS and it would be awfully awkward for those two because just to protect the other, they chose to bring down another. that.

I deeply understand why many people are affected by this because

1. They are Jongin biased. Who would want their bias to be 'bullied' or something?

2. They have experienced similar situations like Jongin's and they know how bad that feels

I can't help but feel that the one of the reasons why Jongin is known to be the most hardworking EXO member is because he just doesn't want to be remembered as EXO's Dark Kid. My heart cries for that baby. :'(

To: Chanyeol

I think it wouldn't be hard to think of a joke other than Jongin's skin to get the spirits up, right Yeol? Or to all the members for that matter. I know that you all love Jongin so just cool down with those stupid jokes. we don't want Jongin feeling all bad. I'm sorry that you have to deal with this but Yeollie, you are a celebrity and you're known worldwide. I know that it is important for you to act just like yourself all the time but some restraint on this kind of things is not hard. Because you have fans of different colors too and you might be unintentionally hurting them, too.

You don't want that, right? Because you love us EXO-Ls. :)

I'm sorry that you have to deal with those childish people who thought that pointing out your flaws is the best way to avenge Jongin. You are not perfect and that's okay. :) Just learn from this and be mindful next time. I hope you won't close your IG after this crap because I love your posts, really. I love that you make effort to reach out to us. Be strong, okay?

To: Jongin

Ahh, you are beautiful, remember that. :) (says your Kyungsoo hyung too, Mwahahaha) Don't be too hard on yourself when it comes to your color. You may not be my top bias but I admire your dancing, your hardwork, your passion and all of your efforts and I don't see anything wrong with having a dark skin. It's one of your assets! You're beautiful in your own right and that's what your fans are thinking, too. I hope everything goes well after all this s. :) take care of yourself not only for your fans and loved ones but for yourself too. :)

I don't even know why I wrote those, it's not like they're gonna read them or anything. :P

Sigh. I just hope that this passes because we're just on the second week and the boys still need our full support and we don't need something that would cause internal conflict between EXO-Ls. We've already earned so much troublesome names and a bad reputation because of some of us so let's not widen the rift any more.

LET'S LOVE!

I notice Koreans tend to joke a lot about others 'weaknesses'. Like Jongins skintone (only coz koreans generally like white people no tan) and like Youngja from hello counselor because she's overweight (which sometimes even seems like a crime there). I do believe that if you are an idol you'll have to learn to laugh and joke about your own weakness even if you have to do it 1000 times since others really will.
Yes I also am sick and tired of the so called jokes about his skin tone (like he isn't even that dark, they're really overreacting) and I really feel bad about it.
I can't really blame BaekYeol though coz like them, I've heard Jongin 'joke' like that about others too...it's almost normal behavior there.
I really wish Jongin would burst out in a show when someone would joke again, but he'll be the bitten dog..
We as fans just have to accept it and hope they sort things out and maybe sometimes we'll have to say they went too far, but other than that, there's no need to hate

oh? O.O this is the first time I've heard of this issue XD OMO! poor Channie and Jonginnie :( Jongin is my bias but.. I don't know!! why do people always point out anyone's color? maybe because they have a different culture? :/ I'm not as white as a paper or what but do we actually need to make fun of other's color? argggh! it's not only about Channie but EVERYONE who gets happy when they pointed out other's skin color, what do they get from that actually? I'm not mad with Channie, okay? I'm just sick of this joke already.. and I don't want to be bias ../sigh/ TT^TT

But why should I be surprised? I'm of Asian descent and Asians stereotypically want to be whiter...except for Japanese gyaru who think of tan as part of their style. I think generally being called dark is nothing offensive but it depends on the context and the circumstance and how the words were conveyed. I always told my friend I thought he was a Filipino at first because he is dark but his last name gave away that he's Chinese descent. But the way Chanyeol worded it this time is implying that Kai is too dark that he should change himself as though it's a bad thing to be dark. Now that sounds to me like they are spreading around some kind of culturally bred prejudice against being dark and that's pretty offensive. I'm not Korean so I do not know the connotations of being called dark but I'm leaning towards them being negative.

And it definitely is not the first time this happened; I remember seeing on EXO showtime, somebody (most likely Chanyeol/Baekhyun) saying Kai is dark, so he is like...some cartoon character and even Tao got dragged into it for being "green", when they went around the table to identify each member's unique characteristics. I think it was around at that time that I was made aware of these "dark skin" jokes. But if they made them that many times, I don't think it's gonna stop unless someone speaks up. I think most of us read it from Jongin's non-verbal cues (at least that's how I confirmed his dislike) that he doesn't like them but I don't know if he ever told the members point blank about it. It could be we were reading his non-verbal cues wrong who knows? I know this Taiwanese young idol was outcast because she has a face when she's emotionless. I think the offended fans are probably international fans...somehow it seems as though Koreans accept this. I personally am skeptical about how close each of these members are to each other; it's not like they do heart-to-heart talks with everyone. Some people are more guarded.

to be honest I haven't watched the video but I just have to comment this. I think everyone knows (or at least should) that he didn't mean to offend him. I overdue my jokes also everytime and I didn't mean to offend my friends, but thats just how I am. And yeah, I just can't understand how people can just throw f ucking death threats around like it's freaking normal because this is just crazy. How stupid can people go over some joke, it annoys me so much I can't even explain. Aaaaand sorry for my super wonderful english. :D

Chanyeol is a jongin fanboy remmeber omfg even though I'm kai biased I kinda understand chanyeol rn
As a saggittarian (xD we both are saggitarius) we make jokes bluntly and sometimes don't care about what the other person feels. It's like we think they will the take the joke as lightly as we do lmao
But YAS it was kinda mean and I feel bad for my jongjonginnieee <\3 but death threats are too much gdi
