The Spotlight on Idols (is getting annoying)

There is just something that irks me about the Korean pop culture, despite being a self-declared k-pop fan.  Maybe it’s the fact that these sasaeng fans are never ending, maybe it’s the fact that fans have to argue with one another just to see whose idol is better (and the answer is there is no ‘better’ idol.) Why I say there’s no idol that is better than another one? Maybe it’s because you never know what idols do in their private life. They could be a douchebag or they could be nice, whatever it is, there is a possibility that their real character is different from the image they portray. (Apparently, Sunggyu smokes. I heard this from someone. Don’t sue me.)

Anyway, this brings me to what I originally wanted to post.

//Omg Jessica is so nice. She rolled down the window when she saw her fans just to wave!//

The above is something that I saw on twitter. I read it, and I was like “what.” What is so nice about that? I think this shows that we idolize some people too much. Like sure they are called idols for a reason and we look up to them. But does it mean they have to be place on a pedestal every freaking moment? Like what’s so great about rolling down a window to say hi? If I did that, not a soul would say I was nice and kind. Just because an idol does it, the consequences, impacts are magnified like 139832586219 times. This is just something I don’t get.

And fyi:

(I would never pay 100++++ bucks to go to a concert tbh. I mean paying this much to see a human being is just not worth it to me. Like if you go to have fun and hear the music, see the performance yeah sure but if you go to SEE someone, that’s just a no from me. People would say I’m a horrible fan or a ‘casual’ but I believe I’m just being realistic.)

///

And I haven’t been writing for ages and I am sad because I have no time to actually go and develop a story :(

But isn't that pretty much like all celebrities around the world? I'm sure if Brad Pitt walked on a busy street, everyone would be screaming and pointing at him.
Since celebrities usually don't want to be seen by the public (or paparazzi), they go incognito because they want their privacy.
It's all about fame/popularity. You see that even in school... compare the reactions of a really popular student saying hi to a group of people vs. the reactions of an unknown student saying hi to that same group.

i can understand your perspective and i would agree that obsession is just unhealthy and really creepy. you wouldn't know if one day your obsession would cause stupid actions with detrimental consequences.

and for concerts, some would go for the experience, some would go to SEE the idols. i would say, either ways there's no model answer if it is a win or lose situation. i think it would really boil down to doing things if you would regret or feel proud about in the future.
