Cliches are bad sometimes, but some are ok you know.

Why do people hate when a story starts out with a dream? Like seriously what if a story is so amazing but you won't give it the benefit or the doubt because the beginning is a cliche beginning. Now I understand if it's the whole there was a monster about to slash your head off then you wake up, but if actually creative then why not give it a chance? I personally like stories that do it because it captures my attention and makes me keep reading to find out the meaning behind the dream. Stories that make you think and slowly peice things together are some of the best kinds of stories in my opinion. I Won't lie, this story I'm working on (you'll know what I'm talking about if You read my last post.) well, Im very serious about this story that after I write it I'm thinking about getting it published. The thing is I did start it off with a dream, but at the same time it's not your typical cliche dream. I don't know, do you guys think it's a big deal? Should I be worrying about it or should I just stick with my gut on this one and keep the dream?

What do you define as 'dream' cuz I don't think I've read a story where it starts off as a dream… unless you're talking about the type where the word fonts are like Italics and it goes something like 'I run through the forest with beads of perspiration rolling down my face blah blah blah I wake up'

At first were talking abt a dream meaning the characters are dreaming in the first chapters?? At the end it made me think u were saying that u had that dream of the story and started writting it idk which one is it but i'm gonna tell mu opinion on both so one 1 .) I'm actually writting some stories rn and they're all coming from my dreams cause that's when our imagination goes wild and the best things come out 2.)if the characters dream in the beginning /it's being cliche / confusing (the good kind of confusing not the kind of confusion that i Don't understand anything bcs the author has ty writting), i found that intersting, i go like "what's gonna happen next? "

I don't think you should worry, if you have a really good feeling about it, then go for it.
