Ari || Main Vocalist

All that is said in my reviews is solely to help the auditionee / trainee / artist to improve. Nothing said in the reviews are meant to criticize, bash or hurt the feelings of the individual.

Hey there Ari,
here is your constructive review :)

Note that this review is based on the three covers provided with reference to others as well

Strengths ;

Solid voice, you have a tender yet solid voice.
Belting, I didn't hear much belting but when you did, it was solid and didn't sound uncomfortable or forced.
Harmonies, I don't hear you harmonizing much but when you do, its on key and just the right volume.

Weaknesses ;

Vocal range, I don't usually pick out a person's vocal range because it is unique to each person. However I feel that your comfortable range (note how I say comfortable) is a little too limited for a main vocalist. It isn't very high or low.
Tune, you do run from the original tune sometimes.
- Originality
you don't make the song different in any way. Originality is important to every artist.
Adlibs and riffing, your adlibs and riffing need some work.

Inconsistencies ;

~ Control, the good part of your control is the power you use when singing the melody of a song. You lack control when doing adlibs and riffing, this is what causes your adlibs and riffing to be under-developed.

Moving on to the actual review ;

First off, vocal range. This will affect your overall performance as a main vocalist.

Next big factor, tune. Oh tune, the most important factor in singing. Your tune wasn't totally off but when you transitioned into your higher or lower register, it became uncomfortable and this caused you to naturally hit the wrong note, this is because of your limited comfortable range. You do recover quickly though. Your middle range is perfectly in tune.

Without me stressing it, I'm sure you or anyone would know that tune is vital (note the italic, bold, underline, lol).

So to fix this tune, first thing first, expand your vocal range.

Tip, do the 'ladder' (?) vocal exercise where you sing along to the piano keys. Do this as often as you possibly can. Everytime you strain, restart from the middle C (C4). Everything takes time but you will be able to widen your vocal range.

Originality isn't a total weakness, but what's makes each coverists version different, special, ear catching and unique is their originality. It doesn't necessarily mean you must create your own music, just the way you change up the singing, maybe you change the tune, add your own riffing and adlibs. Make it yours.

Don't get mixed up though, originality and style are different. Style remains, that's your tender and solid voice. If you use your style to add originality to a song ;

e.g. you change up a song with a strong style and incorporate your style into it. Make it a whole new version that is your own.

I hope I'm clear. Originality cannot be taught, so I have no tips here.

Adlibs and riffing is next up. As a main vocalist, this is uber important as you'll be given most parts that apply riffing and adlibs. Its a given since you are a main vocalist afterall. Just a note that riffing is when you roll a note like, "woah~ oh~ oh~". Maybe you already know but I just wanted to clear it cause I didn't know what riffing was until someone actually explained to me, lol.

I was never taught at vocal classes or anything of the sort. Not even youtube. All my singing is just me and my tips are just methods I have come up with and practiced to improve myself over the years. So please excuse my mediocrity in technical terms. ^^;

Anyway, back to the point here. From what I have heard, you don't have much control over your voice when you riff. This causes you to hit the wrong notes, makes you unable to roll the note the way you would want and causes the riff to sound awkward. Adlibs usually contain riffing so this is what you need to make your adlibs sound better.

Adlibs that are out of your comfort zone will ultimately lead you back to having to widen your vocal range. Once you have already gotten your range you can begin practicing with this tip.

Tip, start by pulling out the notes in a riff. Make them longer than they usually are and practice making it flow smoothly then as you get the hang of it, begin to shorten the notes until it reaches back to its original point. I'm not sure if I'm clear here but this method really works well.

That's it for your review, I hope it was helpful and the tips are useful to you.
Thank you for requesting and I apologize if I have said anything to offend you.

Yours truly,
     Ha Maerin.

Update

Rubric review ;

Style & Originality - (6/10)
Tune - (4/5)
Voice strength - (4/5)

Total - (14/20)

You don't have an exact style. You're just singing along to the tune like the actual singers do. Also lacking originality as explained above.
For a tender voice, yours is on the strong side.
