1 - "I'm officially broken."

Valentine’s day is when these innocent hearts confess their feelings for the first time. A day to give courage to those who lack it as well as a day to make it special. Ari Kim would be one of them, a sophomore at Anyang High School, she had slaved over the heart shaped chocolate, thoughtfully decorating it with her love and boxed it in a simple pink package. She’s finally going to confess to the one and only person who had stolen her heart ever since school started, Kwon Jiyong. He was popular for all the right reasons, his face, his way with words, and just him in general. He was a living, breathing god with a mind of a genius and Ari couldn’t help but feel blessed to even be in the same school as he was.
 

There he was, in all his glory, it was as if the universe bows down to him as the sun kissed his skin, so flawless, you couldn’t help but coo. The sun formed a halo around him like he was glowing, truly a son of god. His laugh caused her heart to skip a beat, the heat traveling to her chubby cheeks as her palms grow sweaty. He was hanging out with his friends today, who were attractive in their own right. Yong Junhyung, he had a reputation to be the bad boy, using his parent’s status to get whatever, as the rumor says, with his faux hawk paired with his intense eyes. Girls either swoon or stayed away from him. Choi Seunghyun, a senior, he’s Jiyong’s childhood friend, he had deep intense eyes compared to Junhyung though he brought an air of class around him, what being the son of one of the largest company in Korea. Lastly, Kim Himchan, her brother, who fit in perfectly with his sharp features and a smile as the girls, put it ‘melt their hearts in a pile of goo.’ Students couldn’t believe that the both of them are related. What, with Ari’s average looks and baby fat the never seem to have left her after middle school, she was sure she got fatter through the years. It was all because of the stress, resorting to food as comfort. Despite her physical appearance she’s on the top of the school, academically. You can’t just have everything now, can you?
 

Jiyong was sitting with his friends in the middle of cafeteria, as usual the place was buzzing with students, a few had already started giving their chocolates and Ari couldn’t help but tug a smile on her lips seeing new couples form. Would this be their day as well? Only one way to find out, she took courage from the others seeing how happy they are. Ari took a deep breath before walking towards their table. Himchan was the first one to spot her, “Hey, lil sis!” A grin plastered on his face, waving at her, assuming she forgot her lunch money again but his brows knitted together when she barely noticed him, walking past him. Ari’s eyes was glued to his friend who seem to take notice of her as well, stopping his movements once he realized what she was holding.

“Kwon Jiyong-ssi. U-um it’s valentine’s day and I… well, I like you.”  her confession speech was gone out the window and the words that came out were jumbled together but she let the gift in her hands do all the talking for now. Her arms automatically stretched out offering the boxed chocolates to him, head bowing hopefully to avoid his eyes that seems to put her in a trance. Ari could hear the snickers of his friends but she couldn’t care less now. She just wanted Jiyong to accept her love.

“Hey, Kim Ari-ssi. Himchan’s sister right?” he started before taking the chocolate from her, a sweet smile on his lips when she finally looked up at him, nodding her head like a good puppy.

“Thank you, but I’m sorry I can’t accept yo--” he was cut off with a high pitched voice, everything happened in slow motion now. The box of chocolates that she made all night was already flying before falling on the dirty cafeteria floor. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t move as Kim Sohee, the most popular girl in school was screaming in her face ready to cut her head off if she wasn’t pulled away by her brother.
