Prologue - In The Beginning
Favoring the OddityA middle aged couple walked leisurely through the woods. From afar it would appear as if it was a romantic stroll between lovers, but upon closer inspection, one would find hot tears trailing down both of their faces, and whimpered sobs coming from the woman.
They were lost, but not in the sense of they could not find their way back to the town, no. They could find no other solution to their problems. For years upon years they had prayed endlessly for the wife to bear a child, and no matter how often and diligently they tried, the woman did not become pregnant. Their bloodline was to never continue, and they would have nothing to care for. In their eyes, life was no longer worth living.
So this was not a stroll between lovers, this was a walk to the end. The husband had brought a knife, for as far as they could see it, if they were unable to bring a child into this earth, at least their bodies would be of use to the wildlife within the forest.
The woman did not want to die, and truth be told, neither did the man, however, this was the only solution they could find to their problem - they had become the lowest in the town because of their lack of heirs. Nevertheless, they were done with the mocking and the scorn, as well as the pain brought on through thinking they would never have a child.
They reached a small stream deep within the forest surrounding their town. The night had crept upon them through their journey, and now they could see nothing save the twinkling stars that shone through the feathered openings in the vegetation above. The miniscule light outlined the husband to the point that she could see the determination set upon his face as he unsheathed the dagger.
“It is time, my love.” He said, his voice cracking on the last word despite his attempts to come off strong. His wife sobbed again, but nodded furiously, sending wayward tears flying in multiple directions.
She took the knife from him with trembling hands, and slowly she brought the blade to her , right above her heart. “I love you.” She whispered before making to press inward and pierce the flesh.
The pain never came, for a mighty ear-splitting boom shook the earth causing the couple to fall to the ground when their shaking legs could no longer hold them upwards. When the woman got over the shock, she looked over to find that her husband lay unconsciou
