What you see

May not be what you think it is

It was 2:30 PM, in front of him was Oh Sehun in a sleeveless shirt hugging his white Ibanez guitar. His blonde hair was put up, showing his handsome features fully. Well, at first it was down until Kyungsoo decided to tell him that it was like a bundle of hair on his head which resulted in an Oh Sehun adjusting his hair in front of the mirror for half an hour.

 Kyungsoo was different though. His new red hair was set to one side, exposing the shaved area which Sehun thought was very cool. (Junmyeon who decided this hairstyle for him was smiling proudly) The black shirt was plain and simple just like Kyungsoo's personality. Baekhyun saw that Kyungsoo hands that were holding the drumsticks trembled a bit.

Junmyeon's hair was also blonde and a bit of mousse was applied (because Junmyeon wanted his hair to flow beautifully while moving along with the beat) Baekhyun didn't know how Junmyeon got the idea of wearing an office worker fashion from, his body was also stiff from nervousness. Baekhyun didn't know if the leader would be able to play on stage.

 They listened to the first band that was playing outside. If you asked what pressured them the most? It would be the fact that Glay was the last band that has to perform on stage before there is a 'who-knows-what' performance, then it would end with the announcing of the results. The advantage Kyungsoo got from this is that, Glay would be performing when the sky is dark which means that there would be colorful spotlights  that no doubt, would result in a beautiful visual that would attract more attention for sure.

What was better than the winner price was the fact that their are many companies waiting to cast newbies into the family. First place would be able to sign a contract with one of the big threes 'Melodica' who also sponsored with Neighbor Records in this contest. Second to eighth place would get nothing much, if their skills are good enough maybe there would be small companies who would like to contact them, if not, then they would just take the money home and brag about how they were in the top eight of the contest which could help in earning more profit in their jobs.

 Pressure increased as the ticking of the clock goes on and on, screams filling the emptiness from outside. While watching the second band go on standby, Sehun walked towards Baekhyun before capturing his hands.

“Come with me for a second”

Baekhyun was dragged out through the crowded hallway,he didn't know where they were going, but he also know for sure that Sehun didn't know where they are going either until they reach an area which was quiet enough for Sehun before he was trapped with both arms by his sides.

 Sehun expression was unreadable again, at first Baekhyun thought that he was just nervous, but after having eye contact, Baekhyun knew immediately that the weird atmosphere between them is coming up again.

“What do you need?” Baekhyun asked making the straightest face he could muster when he saw that the latter was not speaking. Today, Sehun looked more mature than other days, whether it was his figure or gesture, but- 

“I gave you time to think about it--” But when he spoke, he became a little girl to Baekhyun, it clearly shows that Sehun was nervous, shy, and scared of what he chose to ask .

“What do you think about it?”

Baekhyun raised a brow, “About what?”

“Don’t act like you don’t know” Sehun's face flushed red, it was cute but also funny at the same time. 

"Baekhyun”

Baekhyun didn't really like it when the maknae called him by only his name without adding hyung behind, it makes him feels like their is really becoming lesser and lesser, especially in this situation.

“You should use the time left to practice”

“I’ll do it”

“....”

 He opened then closed his mouth like he was gathering his courage to say it. Just when Baekhyun tried to move, Sehun suddenly said, “I’m serious”

“....”

“The thing I said that day, I’m serious”

He said the word serious two times, Baekhyun knew that he couldn't think it any other way else. The last time a situation like this happened was five days ago, when Sehun asked to be part of him, to accept the fact that he was really being courted by the boy in front of him. Everything they said after that was filled with tension. Because Glay was always practicing, practicing, and practicing, Baekhyun though that he could brush it off, but that was not the case for Sehun.

Sehun reached into his pocket and pulled out the charm that he wore when they first met, Baekhyun asked him to throw it away, aside from disobeying Baekhyun's orders, Sehun brought it up from Baekhyun to see.

“I like it when you wear a charm like this” Sehun never knew where Baekhyun's charm went, he never saw it during the half year they spent together, whether it was on his neck, pocket, or other places. 

“I don’t--”

“This is mine” Sehun interrupted. His charm was not the old one, no matter how much it looked similar or how much the main singer dislike it, “You don’t have the right to hate it”

“....”

Every word was swallowed back in, Baekhyun knew that he blamed Sehun because of that one person so many times, but still he wasn't able to get rid of his feelings. He can't get rid of his anger, jealousy, or the times when he day dreamed about what happened in the past.

Sehun lifted his hands before putting the necklace on The latters neck, lips lifting up into a smile when he remembers the first time that he saw Glay's performance. The day that his heart was stolen by the owner of that key charm. Sehun knew that he could not turn back, because as he got closer to him, listened to him sing, and saw different images of Baekhyun, he was sure that he wanted to be somebody else's  'world' whether it would be a man, a dog, a cat, or whatever.

“Please wear this on stage."

“....”

“Just this once, after it’s finished you can take it off and throw it away”

Baekhyun doesn't know what to do with the smile in front of him, whether he would get rid of it or just close his eyes and think of the charm as an accessory. He jumped a bit when two hands went up to his waist, and when he can't comprehend what is what, his head automatically moved away from those lips.

“....”

The two looked at each other, even though Baekhyun rejected Sehun's first attempt in kissing without knowing it, Sehun finally succeeded at the second try. Baekhyun stood still like a statue, Sehun was glad that he was not punched in the face, even though the response he got can't determine whether his hyung would accept him or reject him.

Everything stopped, Sehun bumped his forehead with the latter, smiling when he thought about what just happened.

“I lied to you just now”

“....”

“Because if you really took it off, I would really cry.”

And when Baekhyun was about to move away, Sehun can't help but connect their lips together again.

“I’m so sleepy”

The owner of the blonde hair yawned when the black van slowly stopped. The sound of music and screams filled his ears, and he felt that his ears were about to burst when the leader opened the van's door, revealing the people who were going crazy seeing Arch in person. Because the previous performance ended, the people's attention shifted to them. Kim Minseok led them to the right pathway that the event prepared for them.

“Are their any cool bands Minseok hyung?” 

Luhan turned to ask their manager, but the latter didn't really put any thoughts on the question.

“Some”

Arch was ready prepared, so the next thirty minutes were free.They could sleep,play, or smoke while waiting for that staffs to set up their stage for about ten more minutes. Today, they were going to perform three songs, 'Trap' was up first, a slow song that Chanyeol composed next, then their biggest song from their last album.

 Screams filled the halls again as another band went up the stage, if there were no other mistakes, this would be the last band. The MC started talking while the band was setting up their instruments, and just when Chanyeol was about to step into the waiting room, he immediately turn to listen to the MC's voice.

“And the last band today! Please welcome, Glay!!!!”

Just hearing that name made his heart skip a beat. Other than Chanyeol the name Glay made the whole of Arch stop what they were doing to listen with interest. Yifan whispered to Minseok the purpose of them wasting ten more minutes of smoking time.

“It seems like not only Chanyeol is great, s were also able to come to this round.” Jongin said

“Let’s watch and wait”

His body stopped functioning just because he saw somebody adjusting the microphone on the stand, the sound of his mic testing made his heart dropped, as if he heard the voice that has been missing from his life for two years. Junmyeon was still the bass, Kyungsoo the drums, and the last role was replaced by the owner of the white guitar. When the light flashed by, Chanyeol knew that it was an Ibanez guitar.

“Annyeonghasaeyo, we are Glay!”

Baekhyun spoke, his hair not really different from two years ago. Chanyeol remembered every single detail of the latter, especially the shining ring the latter's right hand. His heart ached and he was disappointed that both of them chose to do the same thing 

A song that was not familiar to him started, it was just that - Glay wasn't what they used to be.

‘Another day

A little work

A lotta play

Alright’

Chanyeol didn't hear the amused whistling from Luhan, his eyes only stared at the performance on the stage, listening to the alternative rock music that was unfamiliar to his ears compared to the hardcore rock from before.

‘Tracing the path to where my footsteps lead

Isn't all there is to my life

We'll never be as young as we are now’

 Chanyeol missed the touch, when he back hugged Baekhyun while teaching him how to play the guitar, his hand was much bigger than the latter, and it almost covered the whole of the smaller's hand. Baekhyun tried to play the song that he composed by himself, but it always ended up with Chanyeol playing acoustic for his lover.

‘You say it's all right

You say it's OK

It's up to you? Is that the truth? Tell me

I'm feeling used, will no one save me?’

 The crowed swayed with the music, hands high in the air, the singer who removed the mic from the stand, the guitarist  turning around while still strumming the chords, the bassist stepped one foot on the speakers, and the drummer controlled everyone's movements in the event.

“Wow, Chanyeol’s ex-band is actually cool.” 

Luhan spoke the word cool for the second time after Jongin, Arch never made this kind of music, and the other bands would always choose songs that require screaming and screaming because they think that that will make them win.

“Do you think ‘Melodica’ would want them?”

“I have no idea” Jongin answered “If no one was locked then they have a chance.”

 Park Chanyeol did not see himself on that stage on the guitar solo. He didn't see the Glay that he had seen before. He didn't feel the old images because the blond kid erased everything. His hands squeezed harder and harder on his guitar strap, eyes eyeing the love of his life facing back to back with the new guitarist, everyone looked like they got along well -- and that made him aware that the decision he made two years ago was not wrong, his heart should feel lighter because he already saw that his ex-band could walk forward without him, but deep inside... his heart was squeezed tighter and tighter.

Everything has changed, and it will never turn back.

Chanyeol was the first one to step inside the building though the song was not yet over, he heard Baekhyun's voice from outside, but as much as he wanted to listen, he chose to close the door of the waiting room. His chest burned, the blue key charm hanging there was hot as if it wanted to burn in with the bad feelings that Chanyeol felt. Park Chanyeol put his guitar down on the sofa and laid down beside it, removing the ring from his ring finger while burning holes through it before grabbing the pack of cigarettes in his jacket pocket and lighting it, following it was a knock on the door.

‘You say it's all right

You say it's OK

It's up to you? Is that the truth? Tell me

“Why did you run away?” It was Luhan, Chanyeol didn't really mind when Luhan plopped himself beside him inhaling the smoke. If there manager saw this they would be in trouble, but the chance was not high  because they were in his personal waiting room.

Chanyeol laughed at the word 'run away. As if the singer knew what was in his heart.

Seeing that he didn't receive an answer, Luhan shrugged before reaching out for the pack of cigarettes and bringing out one. Though Chanyeol doesn't talk much, he knew that he should grabbed Luhan's wrist to stop him from breaking the rule.

“Can’t you let it be a secret between us?” Luhan lips curved into a small smile “Just this once”

The tip of the cigarette touch the one that is on Chanyeol's mouth, Luhan connected their cigarettes without using the lighter before blowing out smoke through his mouth and nose, making Chanyeol remember that the person beside him 'was' a smoke addict too.

“What are you gonna do if you can’t stop smoking again.” That was what Minseok and Neighbor feared the most, Luhan knew that he wasn't really trustable as Arch's main singer, he was stubborn, and if it an important thing, he would still quietly break the rule.

“Just one, not enough for me to not miss them”

Chanyeol laughed, standing up before taking out his jacket and placing it on another couch before plopping himself down again, both legs up on the table in front. He didn't understand why Luhan chose him to be the secret keeper. 

“You know Chanyeol, I really really like cigarettes”

Chanyeol just listened while puffing out smoke that filled the air.

“But because there is something more special, we have to take the path we think is best.”

Those word didn't reach him, he still sat in silence, his heart that was beating slower because of the hurt he received earlier was still working, but it was not a big deal, he was still alive.

Flinching a bit when Luhan stole the second stick of cigarette from his mouth, scowling when smoke filled in front of his face, but Luhan just laughed because his just slapped himself in the face.

“I like having secrets.”

“Whew ~”

Junmyeon let out the breath he was holding after Glay's performance was over, the slow song, the fast song, and everything they wanted to show to the world, looking from an unbiased perspective, they think they did pretty well.

“I –I almost missed the beat” Kyungsoo stuttered, hands crumbling up his hair into a mess. 

“But you did not, right?” The eldest comforted, though his heart was still beating fast, the feeling of standing on a big stage was overwhelming.

It was not often this year that Baekhyun was able to fully smile, his heart light when everything was poured out in the performance. When he locked eyes with the person smiling beside him, it was if more weight was added into his heart again. The feeling from a few hours ago was still there, it was hard to pretend that he doesn't know the distance between him and the kid.

 Sehun kept his Ibanez guitar and so does Suho. The four of them then held a meeting to talk about the mistakes and what could be improved, also expressing the proudness they felt. No matter how the results after this will turn out, their performance today was the best of them, it was good, better than they expected.

“You’re the best Sehun” Junmyeon said before hitting Sehun on the back, though Sehun whined, he felt happy when Kyungsoo's hand also hit him for the second time.

“If we really became singers, would you let me stand in the middle of the poster?”

The four of them laughed when they saw Sehun do a pose in from of them. Kyungsoo then started to

 “Oh god no, when you smile you look like a grandfather.”

“Hyung, everyone says it’s charisma” Sehun said before facing Baekhyun

“I'm cute when I smile~ Right Baek?”

Just when Baekhyun was about to answer, the screams outside were getting louder and louder. Many people quickly pack their stuffs before quickly running to the front of the stage, leaving the other half behind wondering what all that was about. When the first note of the music started, Sehun was the first person in Glay who quickly sprang up.

“What!?” Junmyeon asked, seeing the maknae smile widely while stomping his feet in the same place.

“Did you not hear it hyung? Let’s go quickly!” 

Baekhyun's hand was quickly pulled, forcing him to run along with the latter, Junmyeon and Kyungsoo just followed, confused. Seeing that Sehun shouted “Today’s special stage is Arch’s!”

‘I know we could cross over rainbows

I wish that we could aim the sun again

I know we could dream for tomorrow

To share the long forgotten glamorous days’

The sky was now dark, the only light inside the event was only the spotlights and the stage lights that lit up with the sound of Luhan's singing. 'Trap', the opening song of the album made people go crazy, seeing the performance live before their own eyes.

 The closer he gets to the stage, his leg felt weaker and weaker, as if it would stop functioning. Sehun was still smiling, staring straight ahead, Baekhyun just pulled his hand back and they were separated. Baekhyun stood still, amidst of the crowd that were pushing to get in front, the sound of someone playing guitar was clear in his ears. Everyone's head moved along the beat, Baekhyun didn't knew where Sehun was or whether Junmyeon and Kyungsoo followed them. The spotlight flashed through the guitarist, allowing Baekhyun to see a small part of his face.

“The next song” Luhan said through the mic. Baekhyun didn't know how much time had passed, he didn't even know when the song ended.  “Our guitarist composed it for those who are facing emotional pain.”

 Amidst the screaming, Chanyeol started to strum his guitar. Baekhyun heard from the person beside him that Park Chanyeol composed this song and it was also in the album. Baekhyun was again pushed forward into an even more crowded space, he was now in the crowd that was in front of the stage. Now, aside from a small part of the guitarist's face, he was now able to see his lips, nose, and those pair of eyes clearly.

“Heartache”

 The charm on the guitarist's neck made Baekhyun froze, Arch's guitarist was calm, eyes staring far into the crowd in front of him. Seeing that thousands of people became small dots watching the performance. The crowd stayed silent, only the sound of God Luhan filled the air, as if he was turning the sky grey.

‘And they say that I

Will find another you

That can’t be true

Park Chanyeol's breath hitches when his eyes met with the person in his dreams, the person he wrote the lyrics about on the many papers in his room, this song was also included. The song that Byun Baekhyun was listening to right now. His confused heart made his body feel weak, his eyes unable to look back down at his Ibanez guitar.

‘Why didn’t I realize?

Why did I tell lies?

Yeah I wish that I could do it again

Turnin’ back the time

Back when you were mine (all mine)

To Baekhyun, every beat of the drums felt like his heart was being hammered into small pieces, his breath hitched, and everything around him seems to be grey, as if today was the day he would suffocate and die.

‘So this is heartache?

Chanyeol sharp eyes never left his figure, that squeezed both their hearts tighter and tighter, it hurts more than any other time. Chanyeol wanted to jump down from the stage, he wanted to throw away his guitar, he wanted everything to continue on while he was the only one who could turn back time.

‘Your smile on that day,

I remembered how it changed

I miss you

“There you are”

Oh Sehun shouted beside his ears before intertwining there hands together, afraid that they would lost each other again, but when he turn to look at the latter's face, the sudden emptiness in his heart right now was not a good feeling.

“Hyung?”

‘It’s so hard to forget

It was so hard that we tied a knot in the end,

Yeah, so hard to forget

My weakness strongly pushed me to my limits

You and all the regret

We got separated as it got untied

 Chanyeol's song made their thoughts rewind back to seven hundred days ago, when the act of missing each other was priceless, when Baekhyun was able to laugh, compose song, play the guitar, and kiss the person in front of him, telling the latter how great the performance was.

 What were we both doing?

 What did we know from the past seven hundred days?

‘It hurts right now, that hurts

I want to forget you right away.

Sehun put his hands beside Baekhyun, not knowing what happened. Baekhyun tears finally fell even though he tried so hard to suppress it. There were no sobbing sounds, his eyes traveled to somewhere else, and he knew more than anyone else, that even though it hurts so so much, time would not turn back again.

‘So this is heartache?

“You made mistakes Chanyeol”

Yifan said with a serious face as Arch walked to the waiting room after their performance. It was not like Yifan didn't know that Chanyeol's attention was somewhere else today. If the other members were not able to cover up Chanyeol's mistakes today, Neighbor would be ashamed because the number one band made mistakes on the Rock Rising Contest in front of thousands of people.

“Chanyeol!?”

Park Chanyeol did not care about anything right now, he didn't even listen when Yifan and Minseok were calling out for him when he shoved his guitar to Luhan before turning back and running back through the hallways. His head was filled with Baekhyun's crying face from a few minutes ago.

His eyes traveled around through the participants that were walking back from the venue. Chanyeol ignored the loud chattering, no one knew why Arch's guitarist came here. Chanyeol thought he could control himself, but in the end, he failed, couldn't control it when the person in his dreams was in front of him.

“....!”

Baekhyun flinched when his wrist were grabbed by someone he didn't expect. The face that he wasn't able to see clearly for two years was right in front of him. Chanyeol's eyes wavered, and amidst the shock from the people around, Baekhyun was pulled to the other side of the building, Sehun's and Jumyeon's shouting followed, but it doesn't seem like the person who is dragging him to who knows where right know would listen to them.

The door was slammed close and the numerous knocking that came after didn't mean anything anymore.

“....”

“....”

The tension was so thick that the two almost couldn't breathe. The two catch their breath, not one word was spoken. The person in front was wearing a leather jacket, a red cloth was tied on his right arm, his big doe eyes were red like a person who was going to cry any minute, it stared at him, unmoving. Baekhyun had no idea on what he should do, he didn't know what to do when they would have to meet again.

 Before he was given a chance to speak, his body was suddenly embraced by the giant, head resting on his shoulder. No matter how much he tried to push, it looks like the latter was also trying to hug him tighter until his body shook.

“I missed...”

Chanyeol's voice was filled with sobs, though Baekhyun was trying to push him out, the longing for each other was squeezing them together, leaving no space. If rain fell on the heart that has been dry for two years, today would be too hot and humid. Instead of feeling happy, Baekhyun felt like dying.

“--out”

“....”

“Get out”

At last he succeeded, Baekhyun's face was red, voice nasal, every bit of anger, disgust, and coldness was thrown on Park Chanyeol through those eyes.

 We both were each other's energy, each other's support, they where each other's whole world that made them live their life with meaning. We were the keys that were used to unlock each other, we were everything that could not be explained in words. We were us.

 And what are we now?

“Don’t touch me”

Baekhyun said through gritted teeth, on his exposed chest revealed a blue charm. Chanyeol saw it with his own, two eyes, his throat fell too dry to be able to speak louder than this.

“Whose?”

He didn't get an answer, he didn't get anything except himself following Baekhyun's movements. Just when the door was about to open, it was slammed close again by the giant, who hugged him from the back tightly.

“Please... Baek” the deep voice whispered beside his ears. “Whose charm is that?”

Chanyeol didn't know what would make him hurt as much as he is right now. He didn't know how he was able to survive for the last two years, because now he would surely die if Baekhyun would be gone for even one second.

Baekhyun didn't try to face the latter, he stood still, spitting out cold words to slice both their hearts, making them more ruined then before.

“It’s been two years --”

“....”

“What do you think is left?”

 After finishing that phrase, the giant's hands were pried out easily.

“There’s nothing left now.”

And when there was a small hint of lie in those eyes, Baekhyun left had already left with the other Glay members who were waiting outside. Both Kim Junmyeon and Do Kyungsoo gave him a glance, including the blond kid who was looking at him with admire.

 He who refused to let Baekhyun go.
