As my hand had found its way to hang on to the shoulder of one of the hands holding me glued to him, I was having a hard time concentrating on my balance.

My thoughts raced wildly and all over the place, I could feel my will being lost with every bit of rationality lost within me. His lips were so soft, so tender and they kissed me so lightly, so intimately that I could just feel my entire being melt away because of it.

But the kiss wasn’t meant to last long; softly pulling us apart, Donghae kissed away tenderly at my lips before letting go and settling a kiss softly yet lingering against my left cheek. Closing my eyes at the feeling suddenly taken over me, I hadn’t even noticed when he had broken away.

A sigh escaping me and causing me to be aware of my surroundings, I could see that Donghae was once again sitting across from me with his legs crossed and his gaze looking at me attentively.

I was having a hard time really trying to think of what to say, of what to think to be honest, so the only thing that came to mind was getting up and offering a hand down to him so that he could get up as well.

Smiling up at me before taking it and stretching his arms over his head after getting up, I simply walked to the restroom without a second thought to change and just get ready for bed.

After settling myself underneath the comforter, Donghae had taken to sitting on the edge of the bed as he had grown accustomed to.

“Why are you so far away?” I looked at him with a hint of confusion on my face.

“I fear that with my body the way it is, there won’t be enough room for you to sleep properly,” he shot back as his eyes darted from the space left on the bed to me.

I couldn’t help but let out a soft snort as my bed was a queen sized mattress and there was more than plenty space for the both of us in it. “Don’t be silly,” I said as I patted the space next to me to assure him that there was space.

To my great dismay, the kid had instead of taking the very obvious great empty space beside me, suddenly latched on to me. Our bodies facing each other as he nuzzled his head against my chest. “Hae… There’s… There’s plenty of open space on  the bed.”

“Hmm…. But you’re always so warm and comfortable, Hyukjae. I always like sleeping close to you.” Tightening his embrace against me, as one of his arms was suddenly over my waist, I could only sigh at our position.

“What am I supposed to do with you?” I asked seemingly to myself as Donghae had by now drifted away to his sleep.

I couldn’t help but away at the brown hair of the person lying next to me. His face resting without much care in the world especially not caring about the deep confusion that he had left me with. But his hair was so soft, his body lying next to mine so warm and those kisses that left me with a confusing feeling in my stomach were just… Right.

Waking up expecting to feel the warmth next to me that I had felt throughout most of the night, I leaned to my side to spot the tuft of fur that I had grown accustomed to wake up to. Feeling far too betrayed by my mind playing these indiscriminate jokes on me twice now, I was away at the cat thus making him wake up and open up his mouth widely in a yawn, I had to ask.

“Donghae, you have turned human, right?”

The cat blinked and before turning to his side to away at his fur meowed in agreement.

“Okay. I’m not going particularly too crazy with you being a ghost cat or something that seemingly also turns human.” Thinking about it, he only seemed to turn human at night.

“Is it just a night thing?” I asked away at his head.

Seeing as he couldn’t really reply to my question, he shot me a look before resuming to clean himself. With a sigh, I proceeded to get ready for my day ahead pushing away any and all thoughts of the night before away from my memory.

Having once again a long day but being extremely happy to come back home because Kyuhyun had decided to visit, I opened the door of my apartment in the midst of laughter after Kyu was done telling a ridiculously stupid joke only to stop dead in my tracks making my visitor run into my back and pushing me slightly forward as he did so.

Donghae was back in his human form it seemed. Once again dressed in my clothes, he twirled away on a high chair as he was apparently playing on with Choco.

“Hey! You didn’t mention you had company!” Kyuhyun shot as he walked into the room, my face clearly in shock at the fact that he could actually see Donghae now.

Donghae stopping in his tracks, also seemingly impressed that he was actually being noticed by someone else, stumbled to get off of the chair only to have to come to a stop by holding on to the back of the sofa as to not drop on to the floor.

“Oh, hello. Welcome home, Hyukjae,” he said timidly as he shot me a bewildered stare which I had only returned to him along with a shrug of my shoulders.

“Ah… Yes. Um, this is my friend Donghae. He’s… going to be living with me for a bit as his apartment is getting remodeled.” Lying through my teeth as Kyu made his way to shake Donghae’s hand as the visibly still shaken Hae returned his, I was still having a hard time understanding why he was suddenly visible to him as well.

“Nice to meet you. My name is Donghae,” he said as Kyu was still very joyously shaking his hand.

“You’re the first friend of Hyukjae I’ve met besides our usual crew! How unusual! I always feared that he was failing in making friends on his own!” His laughter filled the room as he let go of Donghae’s hand and came back to me and slapped my back jokingly.

“Uh, well, I’m not that much of a loner, Kyuhyun. I just tend to be overly picky of the people I decide to befriend.”

“So, how did you two meet?” He asked breaking away from me and settling down his bag.  “Do you work at the radio station as well, Donghae?”

I work as an errand boy for a nearby radio station, truth be told. Not having the most glamorous job with all the torture and annoyances the job came with, it was hard to keep my dream alive of becoming a radio talk host most days. Sighing, I looked at Donghae who seemed at a loss of words.

“I play with animals,” he suddenly said with a blank look on his face that I couldn’t help but laugh at.

“Ah. I’m sorry. We just, yeah, we casually met through the radio station and well, here we are some months later,” I said as I ran a hand behind my head and running it through my hair really unable to think of much else besides the truth which I really couldn’t say because it was far too crazy still in my mind...

Kyuhyun had decided to join me this afternoon to do some gaming since it had really been too long since we properly hung out and I couldn’t really refuse the human company not knowing that we would suddenly be joined by someone else as well.

Spending the rest of the night gaming and Donghae quietly sitting on his spot leaning against the sofa and watching us scream at the TV and at each other attentively, the evening passed on quickly and Kyuhyun had said his goodbyes without much a fuss.

Plopping my body down on the sofa with a huge sigh after the unexpected evening, I covered my face with one of my arms as I let my head loll back against the edge of the sofa. Minutes later, my breath clearly leaving me loudly as I felt a body clearly landing against my resting thighs. “Donghae….”

“Hyukjae, why was he able to see me?” His legs flailing back and forth on his back as I was trying to fight away the sudden pain that his body landing on mine suddenly induced, I could only sigh.

“You tell me. I wasn’t expecting to come home to find you in this size again,” I said as I poked away at his back.

Wiggling beneath me as I kept poking at him and he eventually got up from his position to escape the wrath of my fingers only to a few seconds later fall back against my thigh once again resting his head on it, I could see confusion written all over his face. “I’m not sure why I’m in this form, Hyukjae. I’m both delighted but scared at the same time. It feels like I’m meant to be like this but after having lived for so many years as a cat, it’s overwhelming.”

“I’m noticing that my time in this form has been extending since the first time it happened. You were mostly asleep through most of the times afterwards but they’ve been happening. I could only play with Choco to keep myself from feeling too confused. She was the one that suggested I started to wear clothes in case you ever happened to notice me again. She’s such a sweetie. Do you know that?” Suddenly she was on his side of the sofa wagging her tail as his hand reached down and at her head. “She was very happy that I was suddenly human because she told me that it seemed like you rarely had any friends besides her. Always worrying about your well-being after you had closed the door and wandered away to your life, she only hoped that there were more humans that you interacted with and made you as happy as you made her.”

I couldn’t help it as a tear managed to fall from my eyes. Hearing these concerns from a dearly loved friend like she was, as she suddenly made her way on the couch and barked away happily shaking her tail as her paws rested on my free thigh, I could feel Donghae’s hand reach up to my cheek to wipe away the tears that suddenly escaped me.

“‘Don’t cry, Hyukjae. You shouldn’t cry for me. I’m very happy and thankful for your love,’ she says. She’s honestly the reason why I stuck around. So many stories of your journeys and happy years you’ve spent together, I was curious as to what kind of a person would make a pet feel so content with their life.”

Picking up Choco as she away at my face and my lips, I could only cradle her in my arms as tears continued to freely fall away onto my face.

Donghae had by now lifted himself away from my lap and had taken to leaning against my shoulder as Choco was bouncing in my arms between the two of us. I felt his right hand fall on my thigh as I let mine fall on top of his squeezing it lightly being only too grateful to have these two in my life.

The next morning, I woke up with a start as I noticed that I had run deadly late to work after such an exhausting night. Noticing Donghae sitting on the bed in his usual cat form, I pet away at his head swiftly before making a quick beeline out of the apartment.

Quickly pressing the elevator button so it would get to me faster, I rushed inside once it got to my floor and jammed on the LOBBY button as I could hear a person behind me chuckle.

A tall man clad in a sky blue suit that was very business-like and awkwardly in this building, was hiding back his smile with the palm of his hand.

Bowing to him in apology, he waved away in a sign that he really didn’t mind the ruckus I was causing so early in the morning.

“I’m so sorry, I’m just running really late to work this morning.”

Waving a hand once again to dismiss my apology, the corners of his mouth curved up lightly as he proceeded to hold his hands behind his back; his posture resolute and formal.

Leaning back on the handrails of the elevator, I couldn’t help but notice how strikingly handsome this man was; the smile on his face not once escaping it and I couldn’t help but feel warm because of it. As we had reached the bottom floor, I ce again to bow to him as I exited the lift.

“You take good care of him, Hyukjae,” the tall man suddenly shot at me as a bright smile lit his entire face loudly.

“Wait! How do you…” The doors had closed by now and I was left dumbfounded for a while before realizing that I was still far too late for work today. “!”
