After Aom finish picking the basil, she quickly goes back up to her house.

“Aom where have you been? I was beginning to worry” Mrs.Orn asks, the moment she saw her daughter’s face.

Aom didn’t answer but quickly turn away to wash the basil.

“Honey, where is the tomato?”

“Oh..I totally forgot…I’ll go get it”

“It’s ok, we still have some left”

“Here Mom, let me help”

Mrs.Orn look at Aom with suspicion but didn’t ask anything else because they have to hurry and finish up.

“Mom…”

“Yes?”

“What if they don’t come?”

“That’s not possible, they said they would, is there something wrong?”

Aom quickly answer, like she is afraid that she would change her mind,

“Nothing, it just that I don’t want them to come”

“Honey, we already went over this…”

“No it’s not like that...umm…”

“What is it?”

“Nothing. Mom, do you know how Ta Pol and Ta Bau doing?”

“Well I’ve heard rumor that they are better now, but were in the hospital for a long time. Since they got out they’ve been acting like gangsters”

“I think they probably don’t like the Head Engineer much”

“I would guess so”

“They probably try to get revenge…”Aom said it under her breath

“I think they should know that they’re the one at fault. They are thefts and its only fair that they get punish, the troops even do that to their own soldiers. Still, I don’t think Ta Pol and Ta Bau can do anything to the Head Engineer. They’re just probably talking smack” said Mrs.Orn

Aom keeps silent, many times want to tell her mom about what she knew, but end up not saying anything.

“Aom can you go set up the table, I’ll take dinner to Grandma so she can eat first”

Aom came to the living area with the raise up floor and put a small table in the middle. She also prepare the utensils and fold the cloth napkins on the table. Lastly she’s arranging the flowers in blue vase, the pearl color dress, the long thick hair, and the beautiful face that is tilted a little while arranging the flower made her look more like a statue than a real person.  

“Ma! Kiraei dez nae!”

Aom quickly turns to the source of that playful voice that’s walking up the stair. The person who is walking up first, was pointing at Bougainvillea flower tree that is in front of the house, but it’s so tall that it reaches the 2nd floor.

“Look so beautiful” That person repeat the same sentence but this time, the black eyes is looking straight at Aom.

Aom gets up and look pass Kimhan to the doctor, “Welcome, my mom would be out in a minute”

“The pleasure is all mine” Kimhan quickly answer back

The doctor that is standing behind Kimhan, adjust his glasses and bump his bag to Kimhan’s leg and smile at Aom weakly.

“I want to see the patient first”

“She is much better, I think she is fine now”

“With malaria I wouldn’t be so sure, it might look like it but maybe she’s still sick. This course of medicine require 5 shots, I want to give her all her shot”

“Alright, this way” Aom then turn to that person and unwillingly said “Please wait here”

“Take your time” Kimhan answers back and smile widely at her

The doctor follow Aom to her grandma’s room. Mrs.Orn is already in that room helping the old lady with her dinner, so Aom left that room to go get the hot water like the doctor’s order. She walk pass the living area and saw Kimhan arranging the flower that she left on the table. Aom is surprise that the strong hands in soldier uniform can touch the flowers so softly. Aom’s light footstep made Kimhan turn to her, smile, and go back to arranging the flowers. So Aom continue to the kitchen to get the hot water for the doctor.

Aom walks back to her grandmother’s room, brings the hot water to the doctor and sit down, when Mrs.Orn said,

“Honey, can you go accompany our guest outside”

“But…”

“Go…it’s not polite to leave our guest like that”

“If I leave, how are you gonna communicate with the doctor” Aom tries to find an excuse

“Of course we can communicate”

“How?”

“Hand language, now go…”

So Aom has to get up and walk outside that room. Kimhan still arranging the flower when she walks out. The long steam flower are cut, one of it were bend until it touches the table, so Aom just keep watching quietly at Kimhan.

“Have you ever arrange the flowers in Japanese style?” Kimham asks without looking up like having a third eye seeing that the petite girl is standing there watching.

“No”

“Have you ever seen it?”

“I never care to look”

“Have you ever eat Japanese food?”

“I don’t like it!”

“You never like anything that is Japanese…” Kimhan looks up at her, “including a Japanese person…like me!”

Aom is standing there, mad but at the same time ashamed.

Kimhan still keep on arranging the flower, Aom still can’t believe that person can touch the flowers so delicately with that strong hands.

“In Japan every girl has to know how to arrange flowers” Kimhan keep on explaining without needing respond, “my mother is an expert at it, too bad she can’t pass it on to anyone…I have seen her do it dozens of times, I memorize it and try to do it today”

“You never done this before?”

Aom’s voice become softer, this make Kimhan smile widely at her and shake one’s head.

“No, I was never raise that way”
