Destiny

Chapter 1:      Taeyeon stepped into the bustling auditorium and exhaled nervously. She looks around the big and spacious auditorium and can't help but to be in awe. It was her first day of college and she was excited but nervous at the same time to begin her new journey. After all, she was all alone in the new environment as all her friends from high school have either decided to take up another course or that their grades wasn't good enough for them to be enroll in that prestigious college or somewhat known as the number one college in South Korea.      She sighed and continue to walk forward slowly. She didn't want to be there in the first place. She had always hated all those orientation camps whereby there will be cheers after cheers and song after songs. She hates loud environment and she hates making new friends, not because she was anti-social but because she was just a shy person by nature. Hence when her parents told her to take up this course as her degree, she can't help but to resent her parents for it. Being an introvert and someone whom hates to talk or smile, she don't know how to survive in her course of study for three long years. But since she had always been a good daughter whom always follows her parents bidding, she thought of just making them happy and graduate and get that degree. Besides, she was a person without a dream, she don't know what she wants in life neither does she set goals for herself. She always believe in living in the present and follow the flow. Even though she loves singing and music but she had never dream of becoming a singer or be under the entertainment industry. That seems to be more far-fetched, knowing how much her parents would not never agree to it. She had always overheard how her parents would always criticizing the entertainment industry in Seoul, saying how fake those entertainment people are or why would anyone would want to work that torturous job, only to bring hurt and shame to their family. Besides, she had never had the courage to go on audition because she always feel as though her voice is never good enough.      "Hello there!" A girl with a bright coloured tee and a cap greeted her. "What's your class?"        Taeyeon was caught by surprise by the friendly tone but she was more than happy that there's at least someone to guide her. She bowed a little before answering, showing her respect to the girl whom she knew must be one of her senior. The last thing she wants was to create any trouble with anyone for her disrespectfulness. "Hello. Errr..." She quickly took out the letter the school had sent her and showed it to the still smiling girl.        The older girl took it and scanned the content. "Ah, class 7." She then stepped to the side and stood beside Taeyeon. "Walk towards the end of the auditorium and you'll see your classmates there." She pointed towards the far end of the big auditorium. "Welcome to Seoul National University. You've certainly chose the right course." She held her hand forward and waited for Taeyeon to shook it. "Just take a seat with your classmates. The activities should be starting soon."        Taeyeon smiled. It was a nervous and awkward smile. She didn't feel welcome at all. "Thank you." She bowed her head slightly before making her way towards the end of the auditorium. She glanced at the rows of seat and realised that most of the back seats were mostly occupied. She sighed and just took the empty seat in the front row. She had barely sit down and settles herself when another cheerful voice greeted her. She groans in her head but quickly greeted that voice with another fake smile.        "Hi."      "Hi."        "I'm Kwon Yuri. You can call me Yuri." The tall tanned girl gestured her hand forward.      "I'm Taeyeon. Kim Taeyeon." She shook the extended hand and smiles. She decided to be friendly in the end, thinking that she should at least make one friend and stick with her throughout her college years.      "Ahh. Hi Taeyeon-sshi." Yuri releases her hand. "Cute tee you got there."      Taeyeon quickly looks down on her shirt. She was not a very fashionable person and she likes wearing comfortable clothes. She don't like wearing too lady-like clothes and she behaves more like a tomboy, having mixed with her brother and his friends since young. Hence she was suddenly conscious of what she was wearing. Honestly, she wished that college have their own uniform so that no one would judge her fashion sense.      "Oh, thanks." Taeyeon wasn't even sure if the compliment was sincere but since this person in front of her looks friendly and genuine, she thought she should be nice too.        They fall to awkward silence.        "You like blue?" Yuri decided to ask another question after observing the amount of blue items Taeyeon have on her. She looks at the blue hair tie to the blue watch on her right wrist, her blue shirt and finally her blue bag.        "Yeah."        "I see."        "It's just that I like to wear blue on important days or special days or when I'm feeling nervous. Wearing blue, calms me down." Taeyeon decides to explain her love for blue, thinking that she should at least make an effort to keep the conversation going too. She didn't want Yuri to think her as a cold person. "I know I'm weird." She says when she saw Yuri raising her eyebrows. "You don't even want to imagine the amount of blue items I'll wear when I'm feeling extremely happy."        Yuri laughed. "Will you paint yourself blue like a smurf or like an Avatar character?"        Taeyeon laughed along as well. Apparently she was comfortable with this person she just met. "If I could do that without getting any weird stares, I would."        "Cool. You're cool."      Taeyeon nodded and smiles as they fall back to awkward silence again.        She had to take another minute to gather all her courage before begin speaking again. She thought if she wanted this friendship to prosper, she should make an effort. She wouldn't want to end up all alone during her college years, even though she don't mind it at all. But being in college, there would be tons of group projects and assignments and that's the only reason why she decided to at least make one friend.        "You play sport?" It was soft mumble but Yuri heard it.        "Yeah."        "No wonder." Taeyeon replied, noticing Yuri's well-built firm body and well-toned arm muscles. "What sport do you play?"        "I don't really play a particular type of sport. I like all of it. I prefer doing yoga and swimming though."        "I see. Joining the swimming club?"        "Depends. Still deciding on which club I should join. I want to find out more about each club before joining. I've already got some consideration in mind though. How about you? Which club are you joining?"        Taeyeon shrugged. Honestly, she didn't have thoughts of joining any club. She only wanted to go to school, attend lectures and classes and go home.        "What? Don't tell me you're the type that only wants to concentrate on your studies."      "..."        "Oh come on. College life is supposed to be fun. It's once in a lifetime. You're suppose to enjoy it as you study. And you're supposed to release stress by joining your favorite club. Wanna join the same club as me?"      "Nah." Taeyeon politely declines. "I was never a sporty type neither do I exercise."        "As expected." Yuri grinned. "What do you love to do during your free time then? Please don't tell me studying." She pretended to sigh. Honestly, she won't be surprise if Taeyeon had said studying. Because after all her course was one of the top ranking in the school and only student with good grades are able to enroll in it.        "I don't know. Laze around?"        "Second favorite thing?"        "Laze around and watching TV?"      Yuri rolls her eyes, making Taeyeon giggled. "What? Lazing around and watching TV is two different thing ok."        "Fine." Yuri gives in. She didn't want to be arguing with her new friend. "Third favourite thing?"        "Sleep?"        "Is there any other any other interesting thing that you loves to do beside sleeping, watching TV and lazing around? Something that actually requires energy?"        "Nothing. My life is boring."        "I'm sure there's some thing that you particularly love to do." Yuri wasn't about to give up. She hadn't meet such a boring person before. How can someone just laze around the whole day and do nothing. She couldn't even sit still for an hour without getting restless.      "Well..." Taeyeon hesitates to tell her secret, a secret only she and her best friend knows. "I do love to sing." She murmured softly.        "There you go." Yuri snapped her fingers. "You could join the choir club or the musical club. I'll follow you to sign up tomorrow."        "What?!" Taeyeon was surprised by the enthusiastic reaction. "Well, I do love to sing but I'm not very talented. And I only sings in the shower or when my best friend ask me out for karaoke. That's pretty much it. I don't think I could ever match those talented people in those club."          "You'll never know if you never try."        "It's ok. I don't intend to try."        "Come on. It'll be fun. I'll join you if you want. We could take two clubs anyway as long it's in a different category."     "No." This time Taeyeon's tone was firm.        "Fine." Yuri took the hint. "But we could just go over their booth tomorrow and find out more about it. Who knows, that will get you interested?"      Taeyeon was about to reply back when a voice blasted through the speaker. She turned towards the centre stage and focus on the person who was now talking and addressing the crowd. Even though Yuri was right about enjoying life in college and joining clubs but she still didn't like the idea of meeting new people or staying back after school hours to attend those club activities. She was just a lazy person.        ------------      "Good morning Freshie!" The lively person greeted the crowd. "I'm Minki and I'm the emcee for today. And I'm a third year student." He introduced himself. "How are you feeling, Freshie!!!" He shouted towards the crowd again, not getting much response, just like he expected it. "By the way, just in case you're wondering, Freshie is the term we use to call the freshman in our course. So hello, Freshie!!!"      He giggled to himself. "I guess you guys haven't wake up yet huh? Or are you guys shy? Come on, you're in Tourism Management! The most talkative and sociable and friendly people in the whole school cohort!"        Taeyeon sighed silently when she heard that.      "Let's do this again alright. Hello Freshie!!!" The emcee was still trying his best to get the crowd hyped up.        This time the crowd response. It sounded like a low grumble but it was still a response.        "That's better." He praised the crowd. "Alright, let's get the party started!" He waited for the background music and the loud cheer from the crowd to die down before speaking again. "What do you do on the first day of school? Makes new friends of course! But let's make this interesting alright. Instead of just partnering with someone beside you, you'll need to find someone whom are wearing the same colour top as you." He explained. "For example, it could be a shade of dark green with lime green or dark blue with baby blue. It doesn't matter as long as it's the same shade of colour. And once the music stops, those who are without partners, will have to come on stage and dance as a punishment. Ready guys?" He waited for the music to start before starting his cue. "Alright go!"
