“I love you.” 

He was reaching for the door, about to let himself out of her apartment when those three words had him frozen in his spot. He had sent her back home after their impromptu late-night supper. He was at the club when she called, and deliberately let it ring for a good few minutes before picking up her call. He contemplated whether he should, and reminded himself not to cave whatever the circumstances. However, his supposed willpower and anger dissipated into thin air the moment he heard her voice. 

He did not know how to react to what he had just heard. The last time he had his hopes up, it was shattered mercilessly and he knew that he should be learning his lesson. “I, I’m sorry. I must have had too much to drink,” He heard her stutter nervously. As he stood still facing the door, he could imagine her looking down and picking on her fingernails nervously. He knew her very well, in fact a little too well that he knew what it meant with every scrunch of her brows, every frown, every smile and every laugh. 

He heard her feet shuffling away from where she stood, further away from him and moving towards her bedroom. He caught up to her, whirling her around to face him as he held her in place by her arms. “What did you say Jihyo?” She continued looking down at the floor, biting her lips. “Look at me please.” 

She lifted up her head and met his gaze. He saw tears b in her eyes, threatening to fall at any moment. “Nothing oppa. I’m sorry I must be crazy.” 

“Why do you say that?” 

Tears started spilling from her eyes as she wiped it away hastily with the back of her hand. “What do you mean why! I’m just cra-“ He put his hands to her head and delved his fingers into her soft silky hair. He bent over her, felt for her quivering
