Chapter One
You Captivate Me“Just work on this program, okay?” Suwoong’s new supervisor, Wonjun, smiled at him reassuringly. “Let me know when you’re finished.”
“Okay. Thank you, sir. I’ll get it done ASAP,” the young man grinned nervously, his eyes widening as he turned back to the computer screen. He had done this exact task several times at home and also in training, so he was confident in his ability. The part that was making him nervous was having his boss sitting next to him, watching. Turning all of his attention to the screen, he opened a file and began typing. His tension lessened when he noticed Wonjun stand up and exit the room.
Taking a deep breath, he concentrated on his work fully, unblocking files, as he had been instructed to do. He knew that this was a test to see how he worked on his own, away from his supervisor, but it was still stressful. Trying to remain calm, he unblocked several files, smiling to himself at his success.
However, he froze when he came to a file that looked completely different. Cocking his head to the side in curiosity, he opened it and read it over. Deciding that it looked safe, he unblocked it, just as he had done with the others. The computer screen flashed black, and the young man bit his lower lip, holding his breath. His fears were realized when he saw the screen come back on, with red letters scrolling across it: SYSTEM ERROR. Before he had time to do anything else, the computer shut off again and wouldn’t turn back on.
“,” Suwoong cursed loudly, slamming his hand down onto the desk. Now he was shaking, certain that he had just ruined everything in the company.
Standing to his feet unsteadily, he walked to Wonjun’s office and knocked on the door. “Come in!” He winced when he heard his boss’ voice, fearing that he would be fired on the spot.
“Sir,” he swallowed hard again, feeling his stomach churn. “I think something’s wrong. Could I get you to check it out?” Suwoong hoped that Wonjun didn’t see that his hands were shaking.
Wonjun smiled at him, closing the computer that he was working at. “Sure. Let’s go,” he put his hand on Suwoong’s shoulder as they both walked into the computer room.
Suwoong felt a sense of dread wash over him as his boss looked at the computer and the other man’s face turned to concern. “Okay. I’m not sure what you hit, but this is a complete system fail.” His brow furrowed as he tried to press different keys, all without success.
