Waiting

Read on tumblr if you want :Dhttp://carolinaswritingblog.tumblr.com/post/100285662761/waiting

This is my first time writing anything that isn't fully shinee in 5 years so I'm sorry if Kai's characterization is really off.

I hope everyone enjoys!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------

They’ve been best friends since they were both trainees, Taemin watching as a younger boy joined his usual dancing group one day,

the kid dancing pretty well, a little sloppy and nervous with big lips and skinny limbs. They became fast friends, the boy a little shorter,

his voice soft and premature, he was a new trainee; Taemin a little shy and Jongin even shyer.

Taemin debuted before Jongin, the younger boy wishing him luck and smiling without any emotion, Taemin never noticed; his pulse

raising with happiness.

He never noticed anything different about Jongin—Kai now, the boy debuting with the name Kai a few years back. They’ve been

friends for so long, Taemin felt like he knew everything about him, both boys seeing each other practically every single time they

weren’t busy, but sometimes—sometimes when they were together, Jongin would lean into him, their shoulders brushing and Jongin’s

hands knocking with his. Sometimes, when they were with Ravi, Jongin would sit next to Taemin and hung onto his every word like he

needed to hear them, like everything he said was important.

It never made the older boy uncomfortable, a little confused, but he didn’t really mind it.

They were best friends after all.

It was natural, the way Jongin’s hands would run up his waist when he pulled him close, leading him; it wasn’t unusual.

It wasn’t, until SHINee won artist of the year, when the-day-that-should-never-be-spoken-about happened in the bathroom, when both

boys decided to go in and cry together. It was a flurry of emotions, with Taemin sobbing and crying and Jongin crying just as much,

probably even more, Taemin wiping Jongin’s tears with a soft why are you even crying? Both of them laughing pathetically, Taemin

crouching near a corner of the bathroom, Jongin in front of him, curling his fingers around the other boy’s wrists.

It was slow, the way Jongin pulled onto Taemin’s wrist, the boy letting his body lean into his, his lips wet with tears when they pressed

against Jongin’s.

They both agreed to never talk about that day after it happened, Taemin pulling away after a few seconds, his heart beating hard and

fast, wiping his mouth with wide eyes.

Taemin ignored the way his pulse would race when Jongin would call him after the incident, voice low when he asked if Taemin was

free, if he wanted to go to a café with him and another friend. They both ignored it, pushing the urge to talk about what happened that

day and playing around like it never happened.

4 Things was supposed to be a good idea, it was good for promoting Danger that was doing better than Taemin expected, it was

supposed to be fun, bringing all his friends in and talking about himself.

It wasn’t supposed to be Taemin hiding in the bathroom once the cameras were off, Jongin talking to the staff as they took a ten

minute break in the billiard room.

When the cameras were on, they both changed, more fake smiles, playing pretty for the ratings, making sure to pose and not to say

anything offensive. Jongin was brighter, talking more instead of listening, boosting about himself like he never does.

“Make your friendship seem believable,” one of the staff members told him earlier, as if they weren’t friends in real life, like they were

acting for the show.

It made Taemin a little sick, how much bigger Jongin’s smile was when the cameras were on and how he would sigh sadly when they

were off, leaning on him with tired eyes.

It was probably the way Jongin ran his hand up Taemin’s spine, or the way he led him with a hand on his waist that made Taemin’s

heart throb, reminding him of that day in the bathroom, the day he tried so hard to forget.

Taemin left the bathroom before the staff began looking for him, calming himself down and smiling like he didn’t have an internal battle

with himself in one of the stalls.

“Today was fun,” Jongin sighed when the producer told them they were finally done, Jongin leaning on him heavily as they walked to

the van, arms awkwardly on top of his shoulders. They both sat down in the backseat, the younger boy pressing himself against the

middle seat, their thighs touching.

“You cheated in billiards,”

“I did,” he laughed, leaning his head towards the other.

Taemin huffed, rolling his eyes. “You didn’t even win me a prize in the machines.”

Jongin just shrugged, a tired smile forming as he stretched in his seat, feet nudging Taemin’s. He smiled that smile again, looking at

Taemin like he was the most important person in the world.

“Today was fun.” He repeated, scooting a little closer, Taemin sliding away and closer to the window hesitantly, shifting his eyes to the

dark buildings they drove by. Jongin was talking in his low voice, Taemin gulping a little as their knees touched.

.

“Tiring,” he tried to answer calmly, ignoring the pounding in his ears.

Not again, this wasn’t happening again.

Jongin hummed, deep and muffled in his throat. “Yeah,” and Taemin hated it, he hated the way he let his eyes wander back to Jongin,

back to his long fingers and up his smooth neck, to his eyes that shone brightly even when he was exhausted. He hated the way every

touch felt like electricity and how the mutual attraction kept bubbling and bubbling until it was spilling over.

Jongin was talking, his mouth moving although Taeimin couldn’t hear anything, too busy thinking about when the teasing and touches

began to feel real, how the friendly hand up his neck began to feel too intimidate.

Jongin laughed at something he said, probably telling him a story with eyes scrunching up as he leaned back, Taemin smiling with him,

laughing with tense shoulders.

Taemin was going to say something, something stupid so Jongin would stop talking and ignore him for a few minutes until their

knuckles brushed and that was it.

It was a small touch, skin sliding against skin, something short that made Taemin’s breath hitch and Jongin freeze. The older boy didn’t

think he would be the one to make the first move, hand shaking as he wrapped his short fingers around the other boy’s wrist, seat belt

getting in the way as he pulled Jongin towards him, eyes closing without a second thought.

The seat belt dug into Jongin’s neck as they kissed, Jongin’s wrist still in Taemin’s hand, the other sliding slowly up Taemin’s waist and

against his neck, scared that if he went too fast, touched too hard the other boy would pull away.

Their heads tilted in an angle that felt perfect, their lips pushing against each other softly, hesitantly. “I’ve waited so long,” Jongin

breathed, tilting his head at a different angle, index finger nudging Taemin’s head upwards, leading him gently.

They kissed for what felt like hours, Taemin pulling away once to tell his manager that Jongin would be staying at the dorm today,

Jongin’s fingertips tracing his neck as he spoke, mouthing his jawline softly, kissing words he was too afraid to say, I missed you, I love

you, what does this mean?

Taemin knew that Jonghyun would be gone, the older man always at his family lately so taking Jongin to his dorm room instead of his

mother’s house would be a better place to talk.

Not that they would be talking that much anyway.

s greeted Jongin when they both came in, all of them sitting around the living room watching a late night movie. Jongin’s

pinky linking with his as they took off their shoes and smiled at the three older males.

They kissed as soon as they got into Taemin’s room, the older boy letting Jongin pull him by his neck and kiss his insecurities against

his lips.

He’s waited a long time.
