Week #1 Fast Track update
searching for beta readers » You are allowed beta readers if you so wish, and whether or not you share your prize with them is up to you. Also, being a beta reader does not count as an entry into the competition. However, I am aware that for some writers enterting the competition, they'd like a beta reader but don't know where to find one or who to ask. I can't offer to beta myself as a) I'm really busy at the moment and b) I'm judging and it would be unfair, so instead, I'd like to set up a beta-author pairing system for this competition to help those are to find beta readers, and those who wish to help them. Exactly what would be required of you as a beta would depend on the author in question, but for the most part it's probably going to be reading through and catching spelling/grammar errors, so decent knowledge of the English language, whether it's your native tongue or not, will be required. How long it takes will depend on the length of the chapter/story and on the author's writing. please fill out this form if you are interested either in finding a beta or being a beta – beta readers who get paired up are eligible for 100 karma points once the category deadline of the entry is over, and those beta readers who so wish will be entered into a random prize draw for the chance to win 1000 karma points. The form's pretty comprehensive (please don't let that scare you off!) to try to pair people up according to their needs and preferences as much as possible.
I'll be messaging those who have expressed interest to try to pair you up, so please make sure you're able to receive wall posts/PMs from people you don't have added as friends just for this!
nanowrimo support group » Whether or not you're doing Fast Track, you may be aware that November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo! The grand NaNoWriMo tradition is that you try to write a 50 000-word novel over the month of November, or if you're slightly younger and not up to that, something not quite as long. For those of you doing NaNoWriMo, lastwriterstanding has set up a NaNo-networking/support/encouragement group here which some
