- the truth hurts -

“We are one!” They all cheer excitedly, as if telling lies is the easiest thing to do in this world.

Twelve of them are sprawled in a wide matrass, one on top of another, long legs tangled with short ones, perfectly faked grins are painted on their handsome faces. Their trained laugh come out from their mouth so natural that no one notice how bad they want to puke from all the acts they’ve got to put on screen.

The short Korean leader is on the main dancer’s lap, he’s from China, goes by the stage name as Lay. The white plastic nametag on his pocket says that he is supposedly to be called ‘Suho’. The dancer, Lay, has his arms wrapped around Suho’s waist, he pulls the leader closer, both of them are cackling so hard, the fans in the studio think that it’s because of Jongdae’s ridiculous antics, but no one knows that both Lay and Suho are laughing because of how unbelievable the situation that they have gotten themselves into.

Pretending to be someone they’re not.

“Kai, everybody!” The host of the show announces loudly, he grabs the tall man’s hand- whose skin is a shade darker than the rest- up in the air. The man beside him, Kai, gives the audiences his million dollar smile  before bowing twice up front of the stage and to the MC.

“Thank you, for inviting us, Sir” Kai says politely, his face glows as if he is charmed to blow their mind. “It’s a huge honor for the band”

“As sweet as always” The MC says with a laugh, the audiences follow him after. “No wonder why there are millions of girls proposing to you every month, eh?”

Kai smiles sheepishly, his perfectly sculpted face looks even more handsome than before. “If I can, I would accept all of their proposals”

“And he’s generous too!” The MC shakes his head fondly, “Forget those girls, if I was a woman, I would propose you myself”

The younger man laughs, his deep voice fills the room and everyone is laughing, smiling fondly at the too-nice Korean dancer of the band. They are all so oblivious of how much Kai wants to throw tantrum at his manager for making this show lasts longer than it should.

The middle aged MC moves to the middle of the matrass, he brings the microphone up to his mouth. “Now, onto the maknae of EXO-M.” The camera is now focus on a man with dark circles around his eyes, his long legs are crossed Indian style. “Tao, as the youngest, it’s obvious that you’ve got five geges to boss you around. But when was the last time you actually helped something without them asking for it?”

Tao shrugs, the corner of his mouth curls into a smile. “Yesterday” he lies easily. “I helped Xiumin gege sort his clothes for this trip to China. I saw him struggling so hard to pack, so I thought, I must help this hyung, he’s so small I just cannot bear looking at him in that condition”

The rest of the members are quick to respond, they coo at how Tao was. Scripted compliments are coming out from their lips. The shortest yet oldest member of them all, smiles widely and hugs his younger ‘brother’ from behind. Uttering thank you´ over and over.

Fortunately, the show goes as smooth as the manager have hoped, everyone is joking around, acting as if they actually enjoy every second of it, pretending as if every member genuinely love one another.

“Alright” Says the MC with his left hand on his hips. “Before we close this show, I have one last question for Chanyeol.”He points his hand at the very tall and lanky man with dark hair, compare to all of them; he’s definitely one of the most attractive. Chanyeol nods, smiling widely with his white perfect teeth in display.

“Of course” Chanyeol says with his deep voice, “I’m ready for all kind of question”

“Well” The MC smirks. “You’d better be, because this one came from one of your fans in this studio. Each of them wrote one question aimed to one of you twelve.” He points his index fingers to the twelve men. “We picked one randomly, and got this” The MC opens the folded paper. “It says; Chanyeol-oppa, name three things that you love the most about Baekhyun-oppa.”

While in the corner, Baekhyun goes frozen unnoticed; the MC giggles exaggeratingly at the question, making the room roars with laughter.

“So, Chanyeol” The ho st says. “What are the three things that you treasure the most about Baekhyun?”

Chanyeol nods and puts up a smile, “Sure” he says. The man walks over to the corner and wrap his long arms around Baekhyun’s smaller frame. Chanyeol smirks when he hears the girls in the studio screech in delight. “I love this” He looks down at the smaller man in his arms. “Our size and height difference are perfect. I could protect Hyunnie anytime he needs me”

The crowd coos at the lovely couple on stage, and it takes all Chanyeol has to not roll his eyes.

“I love his voice” He rests his big hands on Baekhyun’s collarbone. “Baekkie always sings me to sleep whenever I’m unable to drift off after a long day”

More people ‘awe-ing’ and Baekhyun wants to vomit.

Chanyeol feels like the man in his arms is made of hot metal, his skin felt like on fire every time they make contact with Baekhyun’s soft ones. The last thing Chanyeol wants to do is to interact with this lousy person.

“And the last thing is” Chanyeol trails his hand on Baekhyun’s back, he feels his co-worker squirms a little. He puts his hands on the side of the shorter man’s waist. Eyes up on the audiences, face looks as serious as ever, like he’s admitting his love for Baekhyun in the national show. “I love how incapable Baek is at playing music” Chanyeol states confidently, he smirks a little when Baekhyun stiffens.

“I love our little private moments when I teach him those stuff, we practice piano a lot” His face looks as sincere as ever, no one would ever acknowledge how fictitious it is.

“Naw…” The MC pouts. “Aren’t they cute as ever! Well, there you have it, girls. The three things that Chanyeol loves the most about Baekhyun; his poor height, his gold voice and ironically his incapability of playing instruments” The older man gives Chanyeol and odd look, “Weird taste you have, kiddo”

After the MC is done saying his goodbyes, EXO sings one last song to close the show. Everyone in the studio go home happy and satisfied by what they just watched. The twelve members bow right five minutes before the audience exit the TV station.

“That’s a wrap, everybody!” The camera man exclaims with a huge grin on his face.

It seems like there’s a drastic change of atmosphere in the room. Once they’re done recording, the smiles that those twelve men have put disappear from their faces. They are all look as serious as ever, their happy expression feels like as if it’s just a make up, used only to fool the people who saw them.

Chanyeol, whose arms are tangled around his ‘best friend’, immediately gets off the smaller man. His smile drops right away.

“Thank god, it’s over” Chanyeol huffs in annoyance, he rolls his eyes when Baekhyun mutters “It was pretty fun”

“Oh please” He sneers. “There’s no need to hold on that horrid act, there’s no cameras around”

Baekhyun gets up off the floor, he gives Chanyeol a dirty look. “Unlike you, Park” He glares at the most resentful man that he has ever lays his eyes on. “There’s some people who are genuinely nice to each other”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” The taller of the two retorts.

Baekhyun chuckles bitterly at him, disgusts piling up in his guts; he is so desperate of wanting to vomit of Chanyeol’s face. “Those girls might find our” his small hands are up in the air, quoting-“ ‘midnight piano lesson’ cute and romantic, but I knew behind those fake smiles of yours; you just wanted to humiliate me. Poor Baekhyun, cannot play any instruments- so Chanyeol has to go and save him, eh? So that Channie could get another attention?”

To be honest, Baekhyun swears to God that he isn’t some kind of a person who is full of caution and always prejudicing other people. He is not. His mother always teaches him to keep thinking positively about the others, to never think the dirt of the man who lives across the street. Baekhyun is such a happy person, he can be considered as naïve; the petite lad may not seem as a nice human being, because he must admit- he has a lousy attitude and joking around is healthy and fun.

But Byun Baekhyun knows his boundaries. Honest to God.

He also knows his limits, he has set them up ever since in his third grade, when a kid named Goh Daewook made fun of his height in front of the whole P.E class full of obnoxious and ill-mannered children. He’s put red line in his patience-meter of when he’s allowed to get mad and become a jerk.

Because as you know, the unwritten rule in our society is; you kill or you get killed.

And simply put, his co-band mate has crossed that red line more times count than that Goh kid ever had; therefore Baekhyun has

Chapter 3: Furthermore, I believe that reading stories with very good vocabularies will help you in your writing status. I also read that you English is not your first language and it's understandable because people with A+ English could still struggle in writing stories. Like I said, the way you wrote the second chapter wasn't strong but the content got me really reeled in and made me want to read your story even more. However, when I reach the second half of your third chapter, I'm just really confused because you started to mix Lay's thoughts along with your third person POV. Logically speaking, third person shouldnt be able to know what one is thinking, therefore you should, in a way, use a differently style when writing one's thoughts. For example, making it in italics. The flashback when CEO gave Lay the contract really helped me differentiate when is when and what is which. If that makes any sense.

Sorry if I seem like I dont enjoy your story. I really do, and I really want you to continue this. I'm curious of what other ideas you have for them. Also you said this is a baekyeol fic? So there must be a point where their hate for each other benefit for them both in ehm some ways. I hope you don't get pissed off over my long comment and report me. and I hope you update soon

Chapter 3: Hi so I just came across this from the baekyeol fics recommendations on tumblr and I thought it was pure genius to be conspiring against the entertainment industry (just like what I am with my ongoing fic though I'm stuck rn but ignore that). Anyways, I find ideas like yours are pure genius. Making yeol like an arrogant character and baekhyun the nice kid, 2 characters very different from everyday baekyeol fics - especially bc this is a self proclaimed non-au (but could be categorised as a band!au). It's smart, making that choice. There was a time where I was also contemplating on how yeol would be like in my fic and this option has crossed my mind tho I didn't take it and used arrogant yeol as a character in another fic, I have to admit it's a very smart move. Also, I really like how you conspire against "We Are One" and later expanding the idea, making them look more like a puppet, more like a slave to the entertainment industry. How they are staged to do everything else and it makes readers wonder like what the , because I went what the because I am a hardcore chanbaek shipper like why else would I be in a chanbaek fic recommendations tumblr if I wasn't right. I feel that you've done really well on that part. My favorite chapter so far is still the first chapter. It's a very strong first chapter. It's made to look like an article and the little brackets [like these] you used makes it even more realistic because korean translated articles are mostly like that, so I give props for the details.

However, I was kind of lost in the third chapter. Your usage of a third person POV in the second chapter wasn't terrible though I have to say it wasn't excellent either. I'm not that much of a good writer myself (not yet I hope) and I'm still learning a lot and it's comments from my friends and my subscribers about the way I write is what makes me want to grow and to learn.
