Heaven's for Us

Laying in a bed all to himself, with the windows open letting a fresh summer breeze into the room, sat a boy waiting for a miracle to happen. He stared out the window, into the field outside covered in tall grass and small white flowers. The air smelled clean and of warm honey. The boy sighed and sat up on his bed, slouching as he stared at the all too plain white room. The only sound he heard, was the beeping machine that he was attached to.  A tray of food sat in the table next to him, looking the same as it had for the last two years. The same breakfast every day.  Nurses walked in and out of his room, tying to keep him company and brighten his day. He smiled on the outside, but inside he was tired and lonely.  The day came that he was finally allowed to go outside. Today, he would go out to the field and walk down to the beach that hid behind the field. He had dreamed of the day when he would be able to step out once again and inhale the fresh scent of the ocean.  "You may go outside now, make sure to dress appropriately, and wear shoes the whole time." One of the nurses spoke with a soft voice and a smile.  He looked at her, smiling and nodding, and put his shoes on. Everyone smiled and greeted him as he walked down the hallway towards the front doors. Everyone in the hospital knew who he was. He had been here for years. How could they not?  Once he stepped out of the hospital, joy surged through his body, and he smiled the first real smile since he had been brought here. There were many paths leading somewhere away from the hospital, but he took the one he was sure led to the field.  At first he walked, loving the feeling of the wind through his white hospital gown. Then he broke into a sprint, until he arrived at the field he had only admired from a distance, and reached out to touch all of the tall flowers as he made his way to the beach.  He had never actually seen the beach, but those who had, told him stories about how beautiful it was, and how you could find the most gorgeous of shells and even find sea glass.  As soon as he reached the end of the field, his mouth dropped at the sight in front of him. White soft looking sand and clear blue water, with huge waves crashing on the shore bringing who knows what kind of treasures.  He was making his way to the water happily when he looked around to his right, seeing a small figure slouched on the sand. Curious, he made his way towards the person, only finding that he was crying. He approached him slowly, until he was right next to him and plopped down, startling the older.  The crying boy looked at him with wide teary eyes, holding back sobs.  "What's wrong?" He asked the taller. "W-why are you here?" He replied. "This is my first time at the beach!" He smiled, trying to lighten the mood. "What's your name?" Asked the stranger.  "I'm Kyungsoo, what's yours?"  "I'm Kai..." He replied.  Kyungsoo stared at Kai. He looked at his soft brown hair that almost covered his eyes, his small nose and plump lips. He was handsome.  "Why are you staring?" Kai broke the silence, wiping his eyes.  "Why are you sad?"  "I'm in a hospital. Why would I be happy?" Kai deadpanned.  "I'm in a hospital too, but I'm happy to be out here on the beach, talking to you."  Kai's eyes widened slightly.  For a moment, only the sound of the waves crashing down could be heard.  "I'm dying." He answered. Pause. "Me too."  After hearing Kyungsoo say that, Kai's eyes were once again filled with tears, as he threw himself against the younger male, bringing him into a hug.  "I'm sorry" he sobbed.  "Why are you sorry?" Kyungsoo said surprised at his sudden burst.  "That you're dying. Knowing that you're dying hurts more than the reason itself."  Kyungsoo wrapped an arm around the older, and his hair.  "I want to make the most out of my time."  Kai's body shook in his arms. His button down shirt was now wet with the boys tears, but he didn't mind.  Kai was another version of himself when he first was hospitalized.  Except Kyungsoo was worst.  "I don't want to die." He sobbed.  Kai's voice almost broke his heart.  "I don't either."  "Why me? Why did my entire life crash down like this?" Kai yelled into his chest and held on tighter.  "I don't know." Was all he said.         Every day after that, they met at the same spot. T
