He will be Loved

Sehun doesn't think he has seen anyone like Kim Joonmyun. He has seen many men hitting mid-40s, trapped in their own careers, chasing at nothing, drowning in everything - tasteless.

But Joonmyun, or Suho as his boyfriend calls him, was different.

For starters, he had no receding hairline. No beer belly. His face was full of laugh lines - endearing wrinkles that showed he lived a meaningful life of love, laughter and happiness. But those were the only evidence to show that Joonmyun had been happy once.

For the past 2 years he has been dating ZiTao, he doesn't think he has seen his boyfriend's adoptive father smile. It was a pity. Sehun thinks Joonmyun would look really good with a smile on that handsome face. Because those years hasn't taken away the beauty of that man - he doubt it took that away from his smile.

The things he loved about ZiTao, he could find them in Joonmyun. The cute way they shuffles their feet when they're cold, how they takes their coffee with only 2 spoons of sugar, how they tie their tie the wrong way and the minty toothpaste that they use that makes ZiTao so kissable.

Sehun stared at Joonmyun pouring him tea. He wonders how it would be like to kiss Joonmyun. His muscles tightened. Now that was a dangerous thought. He turned to see ZiTao talking with his father - Kris. Mr. Wu laid back on his suntanning chair at their hotel poolside, full attention on his newspaper. Sehun wonders if Mr. Wu realises Tao was talking to him.

He looked back at Joonmyun. His father-in-law-to-be was wearing a sun hat covering his porcelain face and summer shirt and shorts that showed off his fair skin. He appreciated the stark difference between the fairness of Joonmyun and the tanned beauty of Tao. He wonders if the skin taste different too.

Not daring to follow that train of thought, he sipped his tea.

"Careful, it's hot."

He looked up at Joonmyun, who had a tight smile on his face. Sehun wants to stop him - don't do that, that's disgusting, that's a fake smile. He puts his tea down and slid an arm over Tao's shoulder instead, playing with the strands of hair on his boyfriend's neck.

He looked at Joonmyun from the corner of his eyes - Joonmyun was staring at them. And as quickly as he caught Joonmyun's eyes, Joonmyun looked away, staring at his own lap.

"I'm going to take a walk."

Sehun often wonders why ZiTao doesn't talk much about Kris. He goes on non-stop about his 'mom'.

"Suho always tells me to buy these scarves. I hate them. They itch at my neck." Sehun bit back the comment that he loves them - they're pretty, Joonmyun has good taste. He smiles and agrees with Tao instead. "Yeah, I'll buy you new ones."

"We're going to Hawaii. You guys should come too." Sehun looked at Tao - he thought it was private getaway for the both of them since Sehun was always busy with his work. It was supposed to be their pre-honeymoon trip, since they were going to be married soon. Joonmyun looked at his son. Sehun could see the sparkle in his eyes. Maybe this idea wasn't that bad after all.

"You can go yourselves - I have a meeting to attend to this week." Mr. Wu's voice boomed across the kitchen table. Sehun only concentrated on the way Joonmyun bit his lower lip, making it a shade redder. He wonders if he could make it any redder. Sehun looked down at his steak and pushed away such bad thoughts and tried to picture Tao's lips instead.

"..can I join them?" A weak voice came from across the table.

"Suit yourself." With that, Mr. Wu got up from the table and left.

Joonmyun didn't go with them. Sehun felt a tiny bit disappointed. He told himself that it was only because he wanted his father-in-law-to-be to enjoy Hawaii.

"Hawaii was fun, huh?" Sehun stopped putting ice in his orange juice. He looked up to see Joonmyun in a suit. It looks good on him.

"Yes, it was Suho! Hunnie taught me how to surf." Tao grabbed his arm and giggled by his side. Joonmyun smiled, but Sehun hated how sad that forlorn look Joonmyun gave off. It made him angry that he felt sad. He drank the juice in one shot to cool down.

Sehun sees Mr. Wu sitting with another man beside the bar over Tao's shoulder. An attractive man, who was sitting a bit too close. He looked over at Joonmyun who was sitting on a couch at the other side of the bar - it seems like he wasn't the only one who saw the unnecessary touches.

Sehun expected something to happen. Anything, really. But Joonmyun just ordered another cup of whisky, and took a really big interest in the couch he sat on.

"I'll be back."
"Where're you going?"
"Toilet."

He doesn't have to lie, really. Joonmyun was Tao's father. He doesn't know why he lied.

"Long day?" Joonmyun looked like he was about to cry. He looked like he needed to fall apart. Sehun felt another part of the wall between them chip away.

"Yes. A bit too long." Joonmyun smiled sadly and sipped on his drink. Sehun wished there was more he could do than chat. Because he didn't know to say.

What do you say when you need to fix a broken smile?

"Listen, can you do me a favour?" Sehun was surprised to hear that from Joonmyun, but relieved. There was something he could do.

He nodded slowly. Anything for you.

Sehun found out that Joonmyun tasted like Tao - he reckoned it was the after taste of that mint toothpaste. But the similarities ended there. Unlike Tao, Joonmyun's lips were fuller, a bit chapped from Joonmyun biting them too much and not as soft as Tao's, reminded Sehun of his age. But he welcomed the differences. Joonmyun was not Tao.

Joonmyun was not young. He was not innocent. He had lived a long life - suffered through most of it. He had been married, pulling through a bad marriage, but still providing the best he can for his adopted son. Joonmyun faced the stress of pleasing his husband, his son and succeeding in his job.

But mainly, Joonmyun was surviving on a broken heart.

Sehun kissed the tears that had been falling on Joonmyun's face since Joonmyun pulled his face close. Joonmyun continued sobbing into his shoulder.

This was a man falling apart.

Sehun loved Tao.

But he wanted, no, needed to fix Joonmyun.

Chapter 1: That's... I don't even... Normally I would fond such a situation awfully wrong, because of Tao, but here, I just don't have the heart to blame them. A sequel would be great to know what happends next :)
