“Lee Taemin you sit down this instant or so help me I will ground you for a month.  Don’t think I wont!” Jonghyun bellowed from his spot in front of the stove.  He was just trying to prepare a decent breakfast for his family but he was failing miserably.  The room was filled with smoke and the distinctive scent of burnt… well, everything.

“Dad,” the blur of motion finally slowed to a stop to reveal a pouting Taemin.

“You know the rules, no powers in the house!” Jonghyun reminded him with a stern glare.

“But if I can’t use my powers in the house and I can’t use my powers outside then where can I use my powers?” Taemin whined.

“You can’t.  You’re still a child,” was Jonghyun’s less than sympathetic reply.

“Daaaaaaaaaad!”

“Enough.  Find your brother; it’s time to eat.”

“He’s hiding again,” Taemin grumbled.

“Kim Kibum!  NO POWERS IN THE HOUSE!” Jonghyun yelled, his temper getting short by the second.

A faint ‘pop’ was heard and Kibum appeared, lounging against the kitchen counter, a smirk on his face as he silently observed the scene before him.  “I’m right here, no need to yell.”

“Told ya he was hiding,” Taemin muttered bitter and resentful.

“Both of you, finish setting the table.  I’m going to find your father,” Jonghyun commanded, stress bleeding from his tone, it was far too early in the morning for this.

Before he could so much as turn around, Jinki appeared in the dooway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, “what’s with all the yelling?”

“There you are!  Breakfast is almost ready, and please, for the love of god, help me tame these beasts we call children,” Jonghyun went back to juggling the various items he had going on the stove at once, flipping pancakes – only slightly charred on one side – and refilled the toaster.

“Hey!” Kibum and Taemin chimed in at once but both parents ignored them.

“Be nice to our children, baby.  We expect them to take care of us when we’re old after all.  And why are you so grumpy this morning?” Jinki asked, wrapping his arm around Jonghyun’s waist, chin settling comfortably on Jonghyun’s shoulder as the two kids bickering in the background.

Jonghyun sighed, waving a hand at the mess that was their kitchen, “this is harder than I thought it would be,” he admitted.

“Well it was your idea to do American style breakfasts,” Jinki reminded him with a playful squeeze.

“I know,” Jonghyun whined.  “But do you know how hard it is to crack an egg when you have super strength?”

Jinki stifled a chuckle, “What happened to that stupid little contraption the kids bought for you off the tv?  The egg cracker thing?”

Jonghyun’s pout only exaggerated, “Super strength met flimsy plastic.”

Jinki couldn’t even hold back his laugh this time, “How many eggs did you ruin?”

“A whole carton,” Jonghyun admitted sheepishly.

“I had to help him,” Kibum butted in, snickering at his father.

“You poor baby,” Jinki cooed, ruffling Jonghyun’s hair like he was a child.

“Don’t mock me—HEY!  Did you just high five our child?  You think this is funny Lee Jinki?”

“Of course not baby.  I’m sorry about the eggs.  Is the food done now?  The kids are hungry,” he deflected the conversation.

“Yeah,” Jonghyun said, punctuating his words by flicking the last burner off.  Jinki stretched out his elastic arms, grabbing the potholders from the drawer and passing them to his husband.

Together they set the various dishes onto the table, “Kids!  Food!” Jinki called, making both of them appear instantly at the table.

“How do you do that,” Jonghyun grumbled before he stopped, looking at the table with suspicion, “Lee. Tae.  Min.  Where is the bacon?”

“What bacon?”  Taemin blinked at him, picture of innocence.

“Don’t you dare,” Jonghyun growled.  He had slaved in this kitchen all day long and goddamn it they were ALL going to enjoy the fruits of his labor.  He really liked bacon, okay.

“Baby are you sure you even made bacon?” Jinki asked, his voice gentle with that underlying playfulness that Jonghyun was so used to.

“Yes, I’m sure.  I’m also sure that our little Taemin has been using his powers in the house again andstole all the bacon.”

“Well now you are just being paranoid,” Jinki said flippantly.  “Taemin, did you take all the bacon?”

“Whose side are you even on?” Jonghyun growled.

“There are no sides dear, we are family.”

“Ummm… dad?”

“What Kibum?”

“That bacon is right here,” he pulled the hot plate from the oven as further proof, an amused smirk slipping onto his face.

“Oh…” Jonghyun muttered.

“Baby, don’t you think you should apologize to your son?” Jinki reminded him.

“Right… sorry Taemin,” Jonghyun grumbled, still not fully convinced their fast as lightening demon seed of a child didn’t move it just to annoy him.  It definitely wouldn’t be the first time.

“Can we please eat now?” Jinki sighed.

“Ummm… dad?”

“What now, Kibum?” Jonghyun grumbled, shoving a spoonful of eggs into his mouth as he waited for their son to continue.

“The eggs are… crunchy,” he mumbled, scrunching up his nose in distaste as he spit his mouthful out into a napkin.

There was a slight pause before Jinki burst out laughing, “After all that!  You still— still got eggshells in the eggs!”  Soon both kids had joined Jinki, all of them laughing at his misfortune.

Jonghyun pouted childishly in his chair, “You have no idea how hard it is to crack an egg with super strength, okay!”

“Okay dear,” Jinki responded with a giggle, stretching out his elastic-like arm to give Jonghyun a condescending pat to the head.

Needless to say, when the next holiday rolled around, Jonghyun found himself in possession of a new egg-cracking device.  He most definitely did not appreciate his family’s sense of humor.
