Love letters from hell

Minseok was frustrated. The kind of frustration you feel when you've just all but drowned in love-letters.

"Damn it, are you serious?! Again?! This isn't even cute anymore, this is the first step to gaining a stalker!" Minseok didn't care about the snickering students who passed him, laughing at his misfortune. A couple of handfuls of letters were spread out on the floor by his feet and the rest were stuck in his hair and clothes.

Sighing to himself, Minseok freed the stuck letters from his uniform and stuffed them into his bag, the doing the same with the ones on the floor. He would've thrown them away immediately, but the closest trash-can was too far away and he was too lazy. Yes, the soccer-captain of the school's soccer team is too lazy to find a trash-can.

"Still no clue to who your secret admirer is hyung?"

Minseok just wanted to dig a hole, climb down into it and maybe lie there for a while. The last thing he needed right now was another teasing-session from his so called best-fiend, Jongdae.

"Buzz off Jongdae. Don't you have anyone else to bother?" Minseok's voice was quite harsh and filled with annoyance, but they both knew he didn't mean it. That's why Jongdae was able to just chuckle after the harsh treatment, swinging an arm over Minseok's shoulders and squeezing tight.

"Of course I have other people to bother as well my dear Minnie, but you're my number one victim. You should feel honored you know! The great prankster Jongdae has chosen you, a mere commoner who happens to be the captain of the soccer team, to be my number one friend and victim. Feel the power I emit!" Jongdae raised his free arm high above his head, and Minseok couldn't help but to laugh and punch his friend lightly in the stomach.

"Idiot, what did you smoke during lunch-hours? Sorry Jongdae the Great, but I have soccer practice to attend! See you later!" Minseok shrugged off Jongdae's arm, sprinting ahead to get to the changing room on time.

"Canceled? Coach, is anybody hurt or..."

"Unfortunately Minseok, that's the case. I know that the whole team, including you, was looking forward to trying out the new playing order, but I've got to take Kris to the hospital. He's sprained his ankle pretty badly."

Minseok looked down at his shoes and then over at the rest of the team, feeling slightly disappointed that he wouldn't get to play at all today. "I understand coach."

The coach gave him a slight nod and then headed towards the ambulance which was going to bring him and Kris to the hospital. Before he was out of ear-shot, he turned around and called Minseok's name.

"Captain! Could you please clean up the bleachers? Some kids must've had a meeting there yesterday and left a lot of litter."

"Of course captain. Leave it to me!"

When Minseok turned back around the rest of the team was already gone and he sighed loudly to himself as he saw the amount of trash which had been left behind on the bleachers. This was going to be a long afternoon.

"Wah!"

Minseok turned around to face the field, almost breaking his neck in the process. The sudden shout had surprised him, and he brought a hand up to his own neck to massage it slightly. Looking over the field, it only took him a second to spot a boy lying on the grass, a soccer ball innocently rolling away from him.

The boy sat up slightly, leaning back on his elbows and glared at the ball before sitting up completely. Bringing a hand up to his face, he brushed away the bangs which had found their way into his face, then stood up and ran across the field after the ball.

From his spot on the bleachers, Minseok watched as the other boy ran with the ball back and forth across the field, dodging imaginary opponents before shooting the ball towards the goal. It was actually a quite impressive performance if Minseok got a say in it.

A couple of minutes later, Minseok found himself down by the field, having cleaned up all of the trash already. The boy who was playing clearly didn't notice his presence and Minseok wanted to change that. The other boy seemed... interesting.

"Hey! Boy with the obnoxiously pink shirt!" Minseok smiled in victory as the boy halted all of his movement, turning towards Minsoek in shock. The poor ball once again rolled away, before stopping as well, looking quite pitiful at being forgotten.

"Y-Yes?" Boy with the pink shirt shouted back, but his stutter made him sound more cute than demanding.

"Just come over here for a second, I don't feel like busting my throat by screaming over the field."

Boy with the pink shirt quickly ran after his ball, before running towards Minseok with it under his arm. To Minseok's big amusement, the ball was black with pink spots on it. The sight made him chuckle.

"Have a thing for pink do we?" He teased the other, who blushed as he looked over himself, clearly embarrassed. Why Minseok was teasing the other only a couple of minutes after they'd met, was beyond him.

"What's wrong with pink? It's a nice color..." The other boy mumbled under his breath, cheeks remaining red and eyes gazing down at his own feet. His free hand kept on fiddling with the hem of his pink shirt, inspecting it as if he was expecting to find an answer to his question there. No such luck though.

Minseok couldn't help but to laugh out loud at the other's expression, startling the other boy who looked up in surprise, chestnut hair parting to reveal big, dark eyes. "Sorry, sorry, I meant no harm. It's just... really cute. I don't think there's anything wrong with a man liking pink."

"Well you're certainly the first person to think that..."

"Sorry what did you say?" Minseok tried his hardest to hear what the other was mumbling, but it was impossible giving the volume of the other's voice.

"Nothing, it's nothing really. But hey, why did you call me over here in the first place? Was it really just to comment on my choice of favorite color?"

Minseok chuckled at that, suddenly remembering that he had just teased the other's color choice without even introducing himself first. And the award of biggest jerk of the year goes to....

"Oh yeah, I'm sorry about that, I just couldn't help myself. I'm Minseok by the way, captain of the school's soccer team." Minseok reached his hand out for a handshake, giving his signature gummy-smile as an apology to the other.

Boy with the pink shirt grabbed his hand firmly in reply, smiling along with Minseok. "The name's Luhan, I'm the... umm... weird guy in my class who likes pink stuff and soccer. Nice to meet you".

"You like soccer? Or, well of course you must like soccer since you were playing it when I interrupted you, but do you like... really like it? Like, enough to join a team?" Minseok realized himself that he was probably looking at Luhan with stars and sparkles in his eyes, but a new soccer-buddy or teammate was always welcome in his book.

"I did try out for the team last year, but I was rejected." Luhan looked really sad and Minseok felt a pang in his chest. Luhan had been rejected? But how could that have happened when his skills were this good?

"Really? Did you play like you just did a year ago or have you just improved  a lot since back then?"

"I try to play as much as I can when I'm free, but my style is pretty much the same. It's no big deal though, I can cope without being on the team."

Minseok became even more sad by hearing this, because it was so obvious that Luhan was lying.

The other's face was like an open book, and it showed everything from sadness to disappointment. If only Minseok had been captain last year...

Sadly, he hadn't even been at the try-outs last year, having been home sick with the flu. He wouldn't have gone there anyway, since he back then had already had a secured spot on the team, the coach having seen him playing solo after school a couple of weeks before the try-outs.

"Well Minseok, I've got to go now. See you some other time... I guess?" Luhan sounded so unsure, as if his meeting with Minseok just now was a one time thing, something that was secret and was never to happen again. Minsoek's eyebrows knitted together in confusion, wondering why the other was acting this way.

"Of course! I'll see you tomorrow okay?" Minseok ditched his dark face and opted to smile instead, waving at Luhan as the other's eyes went wide at his reply. Luhan only gave a small unsure wave back in return and the ran off, pink soccer ball tucked firmly under his left arm.

"What the heck was that all about, asking if he'd see me again. Me being slightly popular has never scared anybody off before..." Minseok furrowed his eyebrows once again, then headed towards the changing room so that he could go home.

"Minnie-hyung! Any new letters from your lovey-dovey secret admirer? Huh? Anything new?" Jongdae was currently clinging onto Minseok's neck, and Minseok didn't appreciate the gesture. Hitting the teasing boy in the stomach with his elbow, hard, he let a satisfied smile take over as he heard the other grunt in pain.

"That's what you get for being clingy. You're not my boyfriend for God's sake, you're a plaster. A sticky, annoying plaster that won't go away" Minseok reached into his locker, quickly locating the small bunch of newly arrived love letters and swiftly stuffing them into his bag before "the plaster" could get a look at them.

"Minnie~ You're so mean to me! Fine, I'll leave you alone then. At least Chanyeol and Baekhyun appreciate my glorious existence!" And with that he was off, trying to locate the rest of the beagle-line in the crowded cafeteria. Minseok watched him as he went, chuckling slightly to himself as he saw the other trip over his own feet more than once.

"Aigoo, such an annoying friend I have. Now, where should I eat today?" Grabbing his lunch-box. Minseok steered his steps towards the exit that lead to the soccer-field. The bleachers would be mostly empty at this time of the day, perfect for him as he preferred to eat his lunch in silence.

"Maybe I should ask him to eat with me after all... But I like to watch him play, he's such a natural!"

Minseok was currently having the dilemma of a lifetime; whether to ask Luhan (who was currently playing soccer alone on the field) to come and eat with him, or to just watch him play.

A difficult decision indeed.

Minseok was just about to stand up and shout for the other boy, deciding to be nice to his new friend (?), when to his confusion, his team-members suddenly appeared and approached Luhan

Minseok beamed to himself, thinking that the other members must've seen Luhan play and was about to ask him to join the team. This was perfect!

His perfect dream-case-scenario was soon broken though, as to his horrot, the members all approached on Luhan and pushed him to the ground.

The next moment, they were all standing around him in a circle, kicking and beating him for all they were worth.

Minseok was stunned. Were these guys really his own team-mates?!

Suddenly it all became clear to Minseok. This was why Luhan hadn't been accepted to join the team. The other members of the team had been bullying him all along. But why hadn't Luhan just told him?

Running down to the field, almost tripping on his way down, Minseok was over by Luhan and his team-mates in a second, pushing them out of the way so that he could reach the beaten boy.

"Captain?! What are you doing?!" The team-members looked pissed off at being interrupted, but they all stopped beating Luhan as soon as they realized it was Minseok who was pushing them away.

Minseok was pissed off as well, but for a whole other reason.

"I should be the one asking you guys that! What the hell do you think you're doing?! Hold on, I don't even want to know why, you'll most likely give me all kind of excuses anyway. Get the away from here! NOW!" Minseok was angrier than he had been in a very long time, and nobody messes with a pissed off Minseok. I repeat, nobody!

In the blink of an eye, Minseok and Luhan were alone on the field, and Minseok didn't care that his team-mates would probably never look at him the same way from now on. After all, the feeling was mutual.

Minseok quickly kneeled down by Luhan who was sitting up now, wiping his bleeding lip with the back of his hand.

Minseok fished out a tissue from his back-pocket, dabbing it softly against the nasty looking cut on Luhan's lower lip.

"Are you okay? Does it hurt a lot?" Minseok tried to make Luhan look at him, afraid that the boy had hit his head when he had fallen down.

"No, but I'm feeling slightly dizzy... I want to throw up". Luhan was hunching over his own knees, breathing in short gasps, cold sweat trickling down his forehead. Minseok instantly set into action, putting one arm around Luhan's waist and the other bringing Luhan's right arm over his own shoulders. Hauling the boy up, he then set off towards the changing room, praying to someone up in the heavens that his so called team-mates were long gone.

Minseok felt helpless. Utterly and truly helpless.

Luhan had been hunching over the toilet bowl for a couple of minutes now, puking his guts out, whimpering every so often.

Tears could be seen in his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. Minseok had been sitting with him the whole time, his back and trying to calm him with soothing words.

When Luhan finally slumped on the floor, looking ready to faint, Minseok took him away from the toilet and sat down on the floor with Luhan, leaning against the wall.

Minseok was truly worried for Luhan's well-being. The boy was a fairy when it came to his skin, but now he looked sickly pale. His eyes were bloodshot and moist with tears, cheeks an alarming shade of red. All in all, Luhan looked truly sick and broken.

"How are you feeling Luhan? Do you need anything at all?" Minseok was rubbing Luhan's arm now since his back was pressed against the wall, as he couldn't help wanting to comfort his friend in any way he could.

"No I-it's alright Minseok. Thank you for helping me before, you didn't have to do that you know. They're your friends. I don't want them to hate you just because you've been talking to me." Luhan looked so truly apologetic, like he really believed that all of this was his fault.

Acting on some mind of weird instinct, Minseok wrapped his arms around Luhan and brought him closer, lending him some warmth and comfort to help him heal his wounded heart.

"They were my friends Luhan, but not anymore and it's their own fault. They had no right to treat you like that, and deep inside you know that too don't you?"

"I-I always wondered what I did wrong, why they hated me so much. Then I realized that they didn't hate me at all. They just wanted someone to be their punching bag. And I was the perfect choice I guess... The weird, gay and lonely guy who likes the color pink and listens to boy groups instead of girl groups! B-But I still can't seem to understand... what's so wrong about that?"

Minseok hugged Luhan tighter, swallowing his own tears and instead kept on patting Luhan's back. "You did nothing wrong Luhan. There is nothing wrong with any of those things okay? You're perfect like you are, you hear me? Just perfect. Now cry, don't hold it in until I'm gone. I don't want you to cry alone."

Minseok could see how Luhan's eyes became even shinier, how Luhan desperately tried to hold himself together, but failed.

The tears fell, big and many down his cheeks, leaving trails of salt water as they passed. He sobbed and cried into Minseok's shirt, and Minseok hugged him tight, so tight that he thought he'd break the poor boy.

Neither of them cared though, the warmth was nice and comforting for them both, and as Luhan's tears became more few and far between, Minseok loosened his grip to take a look at Luhan's face, now covered in snot and tears.

"Hold on for a second Luhan, I'll go and grabb a couple of tissues from my bag okay?" Minseok left Luhan to lean against the wall, stepping over to his backpack and searched though it for some tissues.

"Aha, here we go. Now Luhan really, would you like to talk abou-" Minseok looked down at the floor, where a pink backpack was now laying fallen over, it's contents spread out on the floor. A familiar pink ball caught Minseok's gaze and he couldn't help but to smile. Even a pink bag huh?

"Oh sorry, my bad! Hold on a second Luhan I'll just clean this up for you". He kneeled down by the bag to put the contents back in, but suddenly, he froze in place. Luhan, having seen what had happened had his eyes widened in horror.

"M-Minseok, I-I can explain! I-I just-"

"What are these Luhan? What are they doing in your bag?" Minseok turned to face Luhan, a handful of letters in his hand.

A fool could've mistaken them for any kind of letters, but Minseok was no fool. He could easily recognize the pink and red envelopes any day of the week. He had no doubt that these were the same kind of letters he had received in piles for weeks now. "Answer me Luhan, why do you have them? Are you the mailman or something?"

Luhan shrunk into himself a little bit. Minseok seemed really angry at him all of a sudden, but he could understand. His crush had probably hoped for a pretty girl to be his secret admirer. "T-They're mine Minseok. I-I'm the one who's been writing to you. I'm your secret admirer."

It seemed like an they just stared at each other for an eternity, just looking at each other.

Luhan was desperately hoping for two things; for Minseok to accept his feelings, or to just laugh it off as a joke. Sadly, none of those things happened, because suddenly, Minseok threw the handful of letters he was holding in front of Luhan, looking absolutely pissed.

"You really thought this would work?! You really thought that your little scam would work out the way you wanted? Then what? You'd tell the whole school that I accepted your confession and was fooled by this little play of yours? Did you really think that?!"

"M-Minseok what are you talking about-" Another handful of letters slammed down in front of him, effectively shutting him up.

"You're really going to keep using that facade of yours? The innocent and bullied boy who happens to have a crush on the soccer captain? Well, it's not working anymore! Now, who did you have a bet with? Jongdae maybe? How long for me to fall for you? One week? Two weeks? That bastard really-"

Suddenly Minseok felt a stinging pain in his right cheek, hand coming up on reflex to sooth the pain. Looking in front of him aLuhan's angry face, he realized that he had just been slapped, hard.

Damn, that hurt.

"You really think that I'd do something like that? Do you really see me as that kind of a person?! I would have never fallen in love with you if I knew that you were like this, taking other people's feelings as a joke and talking so lightly about bullying, as if it can be faked. You have no idea what I have gone through in my life, so don't you dare try and figure me out just like that!"

Luhan's hard face melted down, and was replaced by more tears and sadness. "I-I really do like you a lot. I have since last year, but I was too shy to do anything about it. So I decided that it'd be different this year. And when Jongdae saw me slipping a love-letter into your locker, he decided to help me, saying that you'd definitely like if I gave you a lot of letters." Luhan looked down at the small pile of letters on the floor sighing deeply. "I admit that I might have gone overboard a bit, but that's because I wanted to gain your attention and show you how much I like you. Jongdae called me a fool when I refused to sign the letters with my own name..."

Minseok stared at Luhan with a dazed look on his face, guilt starting to build up in his stomach. Luhan was really in love with him? It wasn't all just a scam or a bet? H-Had he really just accused Luhan without any evidence at all? God, he felt like such a jerk right now.

"L-Luhan I don't know what to say. I'm really sorry for just accusing you, it was really uncalled for and rude of me. I just-" He didn't get a chance to continue, as Luhan bent down and grabbed his own bag, standing up and walking swiftly out of the room. Minseok panicked, forgetting about his own bag and following Luhan into the empty hallway.

"LuhanLuhan! Please, let me apologize, I really didn't-"

"I don't need to become a pity-case okay?! You don't like me, I know that okay! The bare thought about a loser like me liking you disgusts you beyond limits, and I'm sorry for not being able to stop myself from liking someone like you. Don't worry, I won't bother you again."

Minseok was left alone in the corridor, a single tears sliding down his cheek at the realization that he had just broken his new friend's heart.

Chapter 2: good yet complicated. l am confused as to the fact that, Luhan likes Minseok for more that a year now. Yet when they met, he acted like he had no idea who Minseok was. Also, just shortly after Minseok started receiving the love letters, he finally saw Luhan and talked to him.?

Anyways, it is still good and the story line is not typical. Hope Luhan gives Minseok the chance to explain and make things right. The person is shocked so his reaction is to be expected not that the accusing part is right and justified, that is another matter of its own. XiuHan, fighting!
