Can I have this Dance?
A Poet's First Love (시인의 첫사랑)Can I... have this dance?
Dancing for a chance.
A chance to hold your hands.
Your hands.
So soft, so smooth.
Like a firstborn's skin.
When my hands touched yours,
another on my waist;
When our eyes met...
Sparkly like the stars tonight
I wondered, who you are.
Will we ever meet again,
Or will we never meet, parting ways?
The music played,
One step, two, three...
Following the steps taught in school,
One, two, one, two...
trailing behind the music too.
OUCH! My foot!
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!"
Your voice resounded in worry,
although it was pain,
it felt like worthy.
"Are you okay? I didn't mean it!"
Painful, I must say,
but regardless, I was gay[1].
"Yes, I am totally fine."
You assured me, without
looking at me in the eye.
Your voice -
So sweet, so pure,
Utmostly melodious, so demure.
Romance, I wonder,
was it ever meant to be?
Not even once has it happened
To me,
or to me.
Romeo in Juliet, in retrospect,
was never meant to be.
I will, in unison, they said,
will surely want to see,
and he whispered to himself,
will you one day come to me?
[1]gay: having or showing a merry, lively mood
Yoonjae's comments:
This is the subtle beginning of romance, where the two sections of text represents one's speech, which you may currently assume it as Luhan on the left, and the other on the right. The poet's expression at every moment of the dance is defined at my best. Enjoy!!
