Prelude

My Final Words

January 07, 1996  -  The Beginning

"Kris, this is your new sister," his mom happily introduced as she stood behind the clueless 2-year old girl. "Her name is Dahye and she's 2-years old. Why don't you play with her?"

Kris, the 5-year-old, stared at the female who looked around in curiosity. He remembered being told by his father that he was getting a sister, but he didn't think they meant in the form of adoption. He was speechless, and he wasn't sure he liked the idea of having an adopted sister, especially when she seemed to have no interest in Kris himself.

"Go on," his father urged with a smile, "Speak to her, Kris. She likes it when you talk to her."

Kris only stared and gulped. His eyes widened, and he backed away when she carefully walked towards him. She smiled upon seeing his reaction, and instead of walking away, she stormed towards him, causing Kris to run behind the couch and hide.

The 2-year old laughed happily and ran right after him.

Kris, caught by surprise, fell onto his bum, frightened by the energetic child. He swallowed and stumbled to get up, but stopped shortly when he felt her hands land on his face.

The 2-year old smiled and felt his cheeks.

He kept his eyes on the little one as she slowly backed away, before she tripped and fell onto her own bum. She flinched slightly from the shock of falling before she met Kris's gaze. The smile returned to her face, and unknowingly, a smile appeared on Kris's face too.

"Are you okay?" Kris found himself asking as he crawled over to her.

The girl only stared back at him with a smile before she struggle to stand up. With Kris's help, she managed to, and once she did, she attacked him, causing the two to fall over in laughter.

May 30, 1999  -  The Fall

"Kris!" the 5-year-old shouted in frustration. "Give Haena back to me!"

Kris kept his hands behind his back with a smirk and shook his head. "Never!"

"Kris!" she yelled. "If you don't give it to me, I'm going to tell mommy!"

"Go ahead," Kris provoked, "Like I care."

Dahye frowned and threw herself at him, but clumsily tripped on her own feet and fell, causing her to scrape her knee on the hard cement sidewalk. Immediately, a cry escaped her lips and she began to bawl.

The 8-year-old brother ran over to her with concern, setting down the Barbie doll. "Dahye, are you okay?" He asked as he began to panic. There was blood on his sister's knees, and he was sure it hurt.

"Kris, I'm bleeding!" she cried as she was afraid that getting up would only hurt her more. "It hurts."

"Here, get on my back," Kris turned around with his back to her. "I'll carry you home, and mom can put medicine on so it won't hurt anymore."

The crying 5-year-old only shook her head. She was afraid that the pain would only double if she moved.

"Dahye! Come on!" he shouted in frustration. "We have to put medicine on it!"

His shouting only scared her more, which caused even louder cries.

Kris sighed and turned to face her again. This time, instead of panicking, he was calmer, and if anything, he felt guilty. If it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't have been hurt. Carefully, he reached out and wiped her tears away. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "I'm sorry, Dahye. I didn't mean to yell at you."

And with his apology, her cries grew quieter.

Kris glanced at the wound again and winced. It wasn't just a small scrape. "Come on, I'll carry you on my back," Kris tugged on her hand. "After mom puts medicine on, it won't hurt anymore. I promise."

With his assuring words, Dahye carefully mounted his back with her Barbie doll in her hand.

October 26 , 2000  -  Big Mean Bullies

"I don't even know why you're invited to the all school family night party. You don't even have a real family."

"Yeah, you're just adopted. Just because you're adopted doesn't mean they're your real family."

"Your real family doesn't even love you. That's why you were adopted."

"Why did your fake parents choose you anyways? You're so ugly."

"If I were to adopt a baby, I would have chosen a pretty girl."

At the insults, Dahye could only coward down and cry. They were hurtful words, and it was really getting to her. She knew she was adopted. She knew her parents right now weren't considered her real parents. She knew that she wasn't the prettiest girl in her 1st grade class, but even so, did these girls have the right to insult her in this way? Just because she was adopted?

"You should just stay home for the all school family night that's on Friday. If you come, you will just embarrass your family."

"Yeah, don't come."

"And what if she does go to the all school family night?" a thunderous voice from behind shouted.

The girls turned back in horror as Dahye continued to cry. At the sight, Kris softened, and at the same time, he was angered. He was never up for bullying, and the fact that his little sister was going through this made him mad. He stormed over and pushed the girls away as he stood in front of Dahye, hiding her behind him.

"You little brats here are the ones who shouldn't go!" Kris shouted at them. "No one wants stupid bullies to go to a school event. Your parents are the ones who will be embarrass for having kids like you who are bullies. All five of you are going against one girl. That's how weak you guys are, you no lives! Go away before I tell the teacher!"

Immediately, the girls scattered, afraid of his threat.

Once they were gone, Kris turned to the 6-year-old, who was still bawling her eyes out. He crouched down and patted her back. "It's okay, Dahye. They're just big mean bullies. Mom, dad, and me, we all really love you. We love you a lot, and you're part of our family. Don't listen to those bullies."

He wiped her continuous tears that were coming to a stop. He gave her a gentle smile.

"Don't cry anymore, or else you will really become ugly," he joked with a chuckle. "We wouldn't want our pretty Dahye to lose to those bullies, would we?"

Sniffing, Dahye shook her head as Kris helped her to her feet.

"If they bully you in the future and I'm not there in the future, make sure you tell the teacher, okay?" Kris told her lightly and ruffled her hair. "Now go into class. Your class just got called in for lunch. Make sure to eat a lot during lunch, okay? If you eat a lot, I'll buy you ice cream after school."

Dahye, feeling much better now, nodded and ran off inside the building. She couldn't wait for ice cream, especially on a hot day like today.

October 19, 2001  -  Kris's New Friend

"I'm home," Kris announced as he entered the house.

Upon hearing about his arrival, Dahye rushed down the stairs. Despite the bad cold she had, anything regarding her one and only brother, Dahye wouldn't mind the cold.

"Kris!" she shouted of excitement as she ran into his arms.

Her brother grinned and returned her embrace before asking, "Where's mom and dad?"

"Mommy's outside taking care of the garden and daddy went to work," Dahye told him before taking notice of the boy standing behind her brother. Immediately, she stepped away from Kris, afraid that her actions might embarrass Kris in front of his friend.

Seeing the girl eye his new friend, Kris grinned and introduced him. "Dahye, this is Luhan. He's my friend that I've been talking about, and Luhan, this is my little sister, Dahye."

Luhan gave a petite smile and held out his hand. "Hi, Dahye."

She could only stare at his hand. She knew he had meant for her to shake his hand, but what if she got him sick by shaking his hand?

"Are you scared of me?" Luhan asked with a blink, taking his hand back.

"No," she answered immediately, taken aback with his question. "Why would I be scared of you?"

Kris chuckled. His little sister is just too adorable. He brought his hand up to her forehead. "You're not so hot anymore," he stated. "Are you feeling better now?"

Dahye gave her attention back to her brother and nodded. "Yeah, Mommy gave me medicine two times today, and Daddy made me some good porridge!"

"That's good then," he ruffled her hair with a great smile before urging Luhan to come in. Dahye moved out of the way to let him through. This wasn't the first time Kris brought friends over, but Luhan was something different.

She remembered Kris talking about Luhan a week ago. He was the new Chinese student that Kris described as awesome, cool, and fun to hang around who could speak Korean fluently even though he came from China.

Luhan looked around the unfamiliar house as he went further in.

"I like your house," Luhan praised with a smile.

Dahye couldn't help but to snicker. Even though she may be a kid, it didn't mean she didn't know things. Who even says that these days?

Luhan looked over at the 7-year-old girl who had just snickered at his honest statement. Dahye averted eyes and went behind Kris. Seeing her actions, Luhan chuckled.

"Now I'm really thinking you're scared of me," Luhan opinionated as Kris pulled Dahye from behind him.

"She's sorta shy when seeing new faces," Kris helped his sister out with a grin. "Have a seat there. I'm gonna grab us a drink. Dahye, what do you want to drink?"

"Wow, thanks for the asking," Luhan joked as he sat on the couch that Dahye led him to.

Dahye, who seemed to have taken his joke seriously, stood up alerted. "Sorry, I think my brother meant to ask you what you would want to drink!" She seemed to be panicking, and Luhan couldn't help but to be amused by her action. "What will you like to drink? I will get it for you if we have it in our fridge."

Kris blinked at his sister assisting his friend and laughed graciously. "Relax, Hye. Luhan was just playing around. I'll just grab us all a can of Pepsi."

"Alright, sounds good," Luhan signaled at him as Kris left to the kitchen. Luhan turned his attention back to the girl that seemed to be quite embarrassed at the moment. "Did I sound demanding?"

"Huh?" Dahye met his gaze before shaking his head. "No..."

Luhan pursed his lips. "Are you sure you're not scared of me? Kris often tells me that you're the most talkative sister anyone could ever have... But if you're this quiet, then my niece must be mute."

"She is?" her eyes widened, obviously not understanding Luhan.

The guest chuckled and shook his head, "She's not. She's actually very loud and energetic."

"Oh, then why did you say she was mute?" the 7-year-old slightly frowned. In return, Luhan freely laughed and ruffled her hair, catching her by surprise.

"I was just joking," he smiled as he saw the toy pony on the coffee table in front of them. "Do you like playing with ponies?"

Daye saw him eyeing her toy and quickly took the object to hide it behind her. She flushed red. "N-no... My cousin came over and she just forgot it. This isn't mines."

"Really?" Luhan could detect the lie, but he didn't push her into the matter, and instead, he went on with interest. "My niece loves ponies, and she's 8-years-old. She makes me play them with her all the time."

"Really?" She was quite amazed that a boy the same age as Kris would play with... ponies. "Does she force you to play with her?"

Luhan shook his head. "I voluntarily play with her."

"Really?!" She was quite fed up with this new friend of Kris. "That's awesome! She's so lucky! I wish Kris would play ponies with me sometimes, but he said that boys don't play with ponies."

"So you play with ponies too?" Luhan grinned, glad that she had unknowingly admitted her love for the animal.

"No!" She denied immediately, embarrassed that she had gotten caught.

"It's okay to admit it," he chuckled as he took the pony from her hands. "I think ponies are very cool and awesome."

"R-really?!" And as much as he had already given her a surprise, Luhan did it again with his confession. "But you're a boy!"

"That doesn't mean I don't like ponies," he grinned. "Ponies are the bomb! If you want, I'll play them with you sometimes."

Dahye squealed in delight and nodded her head as Kris came in the room with the drinks. "Kris! You have the most awesome friend ever!" she shouted as he gave them their drinks. "Why can't you be more like him?"

Giving them an odd glance, he questioned, "Okay, what did I miss?"

"Why didn't you tell me that your new friend likes ponies?" she nudged her brother.

Kris, in return, gave Luhan an odd stare. "You do?"

Luhan laughed, "Yeah, definitely. Ponies are cool, right Dahye?"

"Yes!" she exclaimed. "A thousand times yes! Oh! In your face, Kris! Your new friend is on my side! Bleh!"

Kris gave a smug smile, "I didn't know that. If that's the case then you can have him all you want, Dahye."

"I was gonna take him away from you anyways, just not today. You're lucky I'm sick and don't want to get him sick." Dahye stuck out her tongue at her brother before running off towards the back door. "I'm gonna go tell mom that your new friend's here! She's gonna be so happy!"

She left the two boys laughing in joy.

"I think she likes your company," Kris shared with him, and Luhan couldn't help but agree.

"Your sister's cool. I like her company too," he smiled.

"Do you really like ponies though?" Kris asked, wanting to know the truth now that the girl wasn't here anymore.

Luhan could only chuckle at his friend's desire to wanting to know the truth. "I like video games more. Don't worry."

September 06, 2005  -  Entering a New Level

"How was your first day of being high schoolers?" Kris's mom asked as she let Kris and his two friends through the door.

Kris shrugged, and Chen only gave her a smile.

"We have homework," Luhan stated the reason to why the boys were reacting in such a way, causing Mrs. Wu to break out into laughter.

"Yup," she responded, "High school's like that, so start getting used to it. I'll prepare some snacks for you guys. Head on up and relax before you start your homework."

The boys happily obliged and ran up the stairs as she went to the kitchen.

About an hour later, Dahye reached home. When her mom spotted her, she could only laugh. She looked more worse when the boys had entered the house.

"Is being a middle schooler that bad?" her mom questioned as she brought Dahye a cup of cold apple juice.

Dahye happily took the drink and gulped it down before answering, "Mom, you said middle school will be slightly similar to Elementary. When I got to my first class, my teacher gave us a pop quiz on our multiplication and division skills, and during gym, without letting us warm-up, the teacher made us run 10 laps around the whole school. I even got homework!" She sighed greatly.

"They're just testing you, honey," her mom rubbed her back with a smile. "It'll get better, I promise. I admit, they have a little more work in middle school compared to elementary, but it's not that different. Now go to your room and change out of uniform. I'll bring ice cream up to your room."

Although she was tired, Dahye happily entered her room. No matter how tired, she always had room for ice cream.

After changing, she rushed into Kris's room to see the three guys playing video games.

"You're home?" Kris asked without glancing at her. He kept his eyes on the screen.

Chen and Luhan waved at her.

Dahye sighed, "You guys lied to me. You said middle school was going to be easy."

"Do you have homework too?" Luhan asked as he handed her the plate of sliced apples that her mom brought up before she got home.

"Yes, I did!" She whined as she slightly pushed the plate of apples away. "And it , because it's the first day of school! Who gives homework on the first day of school anyways?"

Kris only laughed, "Wow, when I first got into middle school, I didn't even complain like you when I got homework on the first day,"

"You could have at least told me that they would give homework," Dahye frowned. "I could have prepared for it or something."

"What's your homework anyways?" Chen questioned, looking over at her.

"I have 4 worksheets, and they're all for math," she emphasized. "One worksheet is a full page of addition problems, one with subtraction, one with multiplication, and one with division. Don't you think that's too much?"

"Wow, that's the homework?" Chen and Luhan chuckled. "Dude, I can't believe they didn't change that yet. I seriously didn't think they meant it when they said they would do it every year."

"I know," Luhan laughed, "I thought they were just joking."

"What do you mean?" For the first time, she stopped complaining. "You guys had the same homework when you went into middle school?"

"Yeah," Kris spoke as he shut the video game down. "Apparently we did, because your homework sounds a lot like what we had back then."

"Dahye, it's that hard," Luhan patted her back. "You're getting grumpy over nothing. Trust me. You'll do fine on your homework. You'll finish in no time."

"It's not 'that' hard?" Kris scoffed. "Dude, it's not hard at all. Period."

"You're only saying that because you cheated off of Luhan's homework, remember?" Chen matter-of-factly stated, earning a glare from the tall guy and an unbelievable expression from the girl.

"You cheated?!" she gasped.

"No!" Kris immediately denied as he fumed red. The two boys that looked between the siblings could only laugh and enjoy the show.

"Liar!" She shouted. "You're blinking a lot. You do that when you lie! Ooh! I'm gonna tell mom!"

And with that, the little girl ran out of the room with Kris right after her as he's willing to try to stop her.

Luhan looked over at Chen. "Chen, you're so dead when Kris gets back," Luhan stated.

"And that is the exact reason why I'm leaving right now before I get murdered," Chen chuckled as he picked up his backpack. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."

"Good luck on seeing us tomorrow," Luhan chuckled after getting a glare from the friend.

First day of entering a new level in school. Dahye was sure she would remember what middle school math teachers like to give on the first day of school.

February 19, 2009  -  Broken Hearted

"Look, you're a great girl. You're everything any guy would ever want. You're perfect... But, I don't think we're going to work out," the young teenager spoke softly, not wanting to inflict any pain to her.

Dahye stood still, firmly, as she took in his words. Anger rushed through her, but she kept calm. Swallowing hard, she began speaking, "Why? If I'm the perfect girl, why are you breaking up with me?"

"Like I said, you're perfect," he slightly smiled. He meant his words. "You're the perfect girl, Dahye, and that's why you need the perfect one. I don't think I fit that role well."

"Why are you doubting yourself, Jin?" Dahye frowned, wanting to flip tables. She's seen many movies and dramas in which the guy always breaks up with the girl this way. She hated how it happens and their words. She despised of it, and thought it was the lamest excuse ever to dump a girl they 'truly love'. *I mean, if you really love them, you would want to fight for them, not let them go just because you think of yourself lowly. Dumb, stupid, boys. If you don't love her, just tell her the freaking truth!* She often spoke to herself when she watched those scenes. "Why are you doubting us? There's got to be more of a legitimate reason than that one!"

The boy hesitated before speaking, "Alright, Dahye, look... I really don't want to say this... Please don't take it to heart or anything. I'm not doing this on my free will, I promise. If I have the choice to continue to be your boyfriend, I really would. It's just... My friends."

"Your friends...?" Her heart dropped upon the mention of his friends. Dahye, honestly, despised his friends. It was even a miracle that the two were dating when his friends disliked her so much. Out of his group of friends, the one who hated her the most was Jungkook. That damn little-- "What did they say to you?"

Jin swallowed, sorrow filled his eyes as she pulled her into his embrace. "Dahye, I really do like you. After dating for a year and a half, everything we've done together, everything we've been through, you can't deny that I like you. You know it yourself that my feelings for you are true. They're from my heart, my feelings."

Despite his touching words, she couldn't get his friends out of her mind. She rashly pulled away. "What did they say to you that makes you want to break up with me?!"

Tears were rolling down her cheeks. Hot tears that were full of pain. Even though Jin wasn't her first boyfriend, he was the first one she had been through so much with. He was the one she had felt true love from. He was her first love. To her, he was the special one, and knowing what was happening, it hurt. She was hurting, but she wasn't the only one hurting.

Seeing her tears hurted Jin himself. To know that he was the one to cause those tears, it hurt. He moved forward and lifted his arm up to wipe her tears away, but he was only pushed away.

"Tell me!" she demanded.

"Dahye, I'm sorry," he apologized, crestfallen. He couldn't tell her the reason. She was already hurt. If he told her the reason, she would be more hurt than she was right now. He looked down, disappointed in himself. He wasn't a man. A real man wouldn't let a girl go like this, but then again, he couldn't even hold onto her, Dahye, and love her till the end. He couldn't even withstand till the end.

"Yo, Jin! Are you done with your trash yet?" Jungkook shouted over to him as they, the rest of his friends, came out from the school. "We're gonna go play soccer!"

Jin sighed and glanced at Dahye. "I have to go," he softly said.

"Don't go," she cried quietly, no longer mad. She was no longer mad. She was just in pain. She was just hurt. She was just disappointed in him. Dahye was just disappointed now, and she didn't want him to leave with them. She didn't want him to go. She wanted him to protect her from his friends. She wanted him to say something to them, to tell them that she is anything but trash. Dahye wanted Jin to continue to stay by her side. "Please."

He brought a hand up to wipe her crestfallen tears, and this time, Dahye didn't push him away. "If ever I get the chance, I'll come back," he closed their distance as he leaned his forehead against hers, fighting back his tears. "I promise, Dahye... For now, just hate me. Hate me and never forgive me for breaking up with the perfect woman."

His touching words only made her tears heavier and her cries louder.

"Jin!" Jimin shouted, impatiently waiting. "Are you even cleaning up your trash, or are you cherishing it?"

Jin tightened his jaw and took a step away from Dahye. "You have to hate me after this," he pursed his lips. He knew he would never find such a perfect match after this, and he knew he would hate himself for this. Even now, he's regretting. "I'm sorry, Dahye."

He turned around and walked off with his friends, who laughed at the scene, leaving a broken hearted 15-year-old crying her heart out in pain.

------------------------

Kris and Luhan continued to call and text her phone with concerned messages. She was supposed by 4PM. She was supposed to be home 3 hours ago, and the fact that she didn't even notify them where she was right this moment and why she wasn't home made them worry sick.

"I'll go search around the western part of town," Kris told Luhan as they both put their sneakers on along with a coat. "You go search the east side. If you find her, call me, and if I find her, I'll call you."

Luhan nodded and rushed out.

He has already searched for the many possible stores Dahye could've been at, yet, there were no signs of her. Even asking around with the ahjummas that were close with Dahye, they all shook their heads, having not seen her come around.

After an hour, Luhan sighed heavily. Kris hadn't contacted him yet, meaning that there wasn't any signs of Dahye with him either.

Just where could she have been?

Running around the neighborhood, Luhan saw Dahye's boyfriend with his friends at the neighborhood's community soccer field. Maybe, Jin might know where she is. Hastily, Luhan ran over to them.

"Jin!" he shouted, earning the boys' attention. They immediately stopped their soccer game and came over. "Have you seen Dahye?"

At the mention of his ex, Jin averted his eyes. There was something about his expression that irked Luhan. Just why was the guy frowning?

"She's not home yet?" Jungkook guffawed. "Wow, Jin. You made the right choice to throw away that piece of trash. If you didn't, you would've had to worry like Luhan sunbae."

Jimin and Namjoon quickly nudged the kid to shut up, but it was too late. Luhan had been going berserk, knowing that Dahye was missing, and now hearing what the guy had said irked him more than ever.

He sent Jungkook a deadly glare in which the guy coward down in fright. "What do you mean throw away? Who are you calling trash!" Luhan stormed over to Jungkook and grabbed him by his collar as the others tried to stop Luhan from inflicting a hit on the guy's face. Knowing that this wasn't his priority, Luhan shoved the guy to the ground whirled himself around to face Jin. "What is the damn kid talking about?!"

"I... I broke up with Dahye today, after school," Jin said weakly, not able to meet the older one's eyes.

"You... what?" Luhan stared in disbelief. It was hard to let the information sink in, because he never thought it would happen. At least not so soon when he saw them happily with each other just a few days ago. "But... why?"

And now that Luhan has asked Jin himself, he felt even more horrible. In front of his friends, he couldn't tell Luhan. Definitely not. It would rub both his friends and Luhan the wrong way. He didn't want that.

"Why did you do that, you ing bastard?!" Luhan lunged for him and socked a few punches to his face before the guys panicked and tried pulling Luhan off of Jin. Funny thing. Jin didn't even try to stop him, nor did he fight back. "Let me go!" Luhan shouted aggressively, trying to escape from the boys' grasps. "Let me go so I can kill this damn bastard!"

Jin sighed and stood up slowly, regret written on his face.

"You ing hurt a girl and just leave her like that?! She didn't ing return home. She's ing missing, you ing bastard!" Luhan shouted, still struggling to get the boys away. When it was 5 guys holding one down, it's not easy to escape their grasps. "Dahye won't even pick up her calls, and we have no ing idea where on earth she is!"

"I'm sorry," was all Jin muttered, because he really was sorry. He knew it was his fault, but with his friends here, he couldn't do anything.

"Sorry?" Luhan scoffed and shrugged the guys off roughly. He walked up to Jin, tightened jaw and clenched fist. "Do you think a ing sorry will work fix things up?" He breathed out heavily. As much as he wanted to beat the guy to death, Jin was someone Dahye cherished. If she knew that Jin's dead due to the hands of Luhan, she wouldn't be happy, and Luhan wanted anything but for her to be mad at him, as selfish as it may sound. "Don’t you ever," he put a finger on Jin's chest and pushed him, "EVER show up in front of her again and ask for anything from her. I don't what your ing problem is to break it with her, but if ever, I see you talking to her, no matter what it's about, I'll send you to your ancestors."

Luhan gave Jin a rough shove before turning and roughly passing by the boys. He wanted to kill the guy right there and then. He seriously wanted to, but right now, his priority is to find Dahye. Now, knowing the possible reason to why she hadn't returned home, Luhan felt slightly at ease. At least he knew that she wasn't kidnapped or anything.

Even still, after 30 minutes, there was no sign of Dahye. In the past, playing hide-and-seek with her, she was never a good hider, so why is it that her skill at hiding must advance so much today.

Luhan sighed in frustration. Where could she be? Then it hit him.

He's gone to all of the places he knew she usually likes going to, but one place he had never thought of was school. He had never checked back at school. Confident that she was there, he ran and ran. She has to be there.

By the time he reached the closed school, he was out of breath, breathing heavily. In front of the school showed no signs of her, but he didn't check the back. Quickly he ran towards the back of the school, and there in the middle of the school's soccer field was a fragile girl, crying to herself.

Relief washed over Luhan. He was so relieved, so relieved to the point where he could cry. He swallowed and walked over to her. She really was heartbroken, just like how he knew she would be.

"Dahye," his hoarse voice spoke quietly.

The female only sniffed and apologized with whimpers. "I'm sorry. I should've been home since 4, and I shouldn't have been ignoring your calls and texts. I'm sorry," she muttered through her cries as she hugged her knees, her face not visible to the male.

He softened at the sight of her. Without seeing her face, he knew she was crying, still. He could hear her silent cries as she tried to force herself to stop crying.

"Is that bastard really that special?" Luhan asked sincerely, though no sense of hate were visible in his words. Without hearing an answer, he knew well himself that Jin was, in fact, very special. Luhan knew he was special, and that was why he was so shocked when he was told that the guy broke up with her. Hesitantly, Luhan lifted his hand and brushed her hair to the side before making her look up at him. Her red eyes and tear-stained face was visible, and she honestly looked horrible. Of course, not physically. "I met him earlier, and he told me. Is he really worth crying for?"

Even the answer to this question was evident. Yes, of course he was worth crying for. The saying that claims 'No man is worth crying for' is definitely one of the most despicable quotes Luhan had ever come across. Jin proved that saying wrong. Just by looking at Jin and Dahye's relationship, he became such a strong sun in Dahye's life. All Luhan wanted for Dahye was for her to be happy, and Jin was able to make her happy.

Dahye wiped her face with the back of her hands. She hated when others see her cry, especially if it's Kris and Luhan that sees her cry. She only hated it because crying shows a sign of weakness, and after going through so much back in elementary, she wanted to show them that she was, indeed, strong. She wanted to show them that she was strong against others bullying her about her being adopted. That was the prior reason to why she hated showing her tears, but this was a different matter, wasn't it?

Luhan sighed and patted her back. “He may be your first, but he won’t be your last. I promise you that.”

June 2, 2010  -  After The Confession

“I promise, I won’t be a jerky boyfriend to her,” Luhan swore with his right hand raised. “I’ll really take care of her and love her the right way. I promise I won’t break her heart.”

Kris sighed heavily, wanting to punch his friend in the face. He wasn’t blind. He had suspected many times before that his best friend liked his sister, but he never wanted to admit it. Now that his friend had confessed to Dahye, there was only one more step. To go through Kris, the older brother, not Kris, the best friend.

“You just really had to confess before talking it out with me,” Kris glared at him. Dahye lowered her gaze and Luhan gave a slight smile. “And you!” Kris glared at his younger sister, “How can you just say yes without giving it a thought?!”

“I gave it a thought, I really did,” she defended herself. “He asked me a week ago, and I gave him an answer today. I really did give it a thought, oppa.”

And Kris knew that was true too. Luhan had asked Dahye to be his girlfriend a week ago, and she told him she’ll think about it and give him an answer. Kris knew she was thinking hard, because she was really unlike herself the past week. That was how he came to even know that his best friend and his only sister are dating.

“Gosh! You guys are so damn annoying,” he face palmed. “If mom and dad knows, they’re gonna be shocked as hell.”

“Mom sorta already… know,” Dahye confessed as Luhan chuckled.

“Are you serious?” And it drove Kris even more mad the fact that he was the last person to know. “Don’t tell me dad knows too.”

“Well, Mom sorta broke it to him earlier at lunch when you were out,” she sheepishly smiled. “But don’t worry! You’re the third person to know about our relationship!”

“Make that the fifth person,” Luhan spoke, “Because my parents know about it too.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Kris rolled his eyes. “I’m about to smack the living hell out of you both right now.”

“You’re the first to know out of the guys. Chen they don’t know anything yet,” Luhan confessed.

They’d be honest, it was quite amusing to see Kris so agitated about the matter. Luhan knew telling Kris about it wouldn’t be easy. He knew how protective of a brother Kris could be, so when he first confessed to Dahye a week ago, he couldn’t tell Kris, but now that Kris was finally able to catch on, it was amusing. He thought Kris would beat the crap out of him first hand, but seeing that Kris was able to remain calm enough to give the two a raging lecture, he can already see the guy’s true and final answer to him dating Dahye. Luhan knew that Kris accepted them both, just like how their parents did.

“Dahye, go to your room,” Kris ordered, earning a frown from the female. “Now.”

She sighed and left the living room, letting go of her boyfriend’s hand.

Kris sat beside him and heaved a sigh. “… Since when did you start liking her?”

“Should I be honest?” Luhan asked with a slight grin. “About a while ago. Probably for the past 2 years or so.”

“Why didn’t you say anything to me?” Kris rolled his eyes as he smacked his friend’s arm.

“Are you kidding me?” Luhan scoffed. “When you first found out that her first boyfriend asked her out, you went berserk, and then when Jin came around to be her boyfriend, you freaking went off at him. I didn’t want to be some type of dinner on you dining table.”

Kris chuckled at his comment. “Yeah, you’re lucky enough that I know you enough to not kill you.”

Silence passed through the two before Luhan popped the question.

“So… Do you accept us?”

Once again, silence engulfed the two, and at last, Kris nodded.

“Yeah, I trust you enough to,” he responded, “But like you promise, don’t break her. She may not be my blood sister, but she still is my sister. Without her, I don’t think I would be able to function right. To the family, Dahye is our miracle. Did I tell you about what happened when I was five years old?”

Luhan raised his brows. Kris wasn’t one to tell past stories, but when he did, Luhan knew they were important.

“I had cancer,” Kris spoke quietly, and with his surprising fact, Luhan’s eyes widen. He never knew his friend had cancer. “I had cancer since I was 3-years-old, and when I became 5-years-old, my family was told that I wouldn’t be able to make it past the age of 6… I mean, we were all really surprised and shocked. I didn’t even remember how to cry. I was just… really shocked. Then one day, when I was waiting in the hospital, my parents told me that I would be having a sister. I was damn excited, because being the only kid was hella lonely. My parents told me that I would have to wait 6 months at least to get to see her. I lived my last year of life excited and happy, because I was only waiting for the day of meeting my sister. I forgot all about my cancer problem. I became worse and worse every day, but somehow, just somehow, hearing my parents speak about my sister, I forgot about all of the pain I was going through. And I just seemed to get better every time they spoke about her. Just a few days before I met Dahye, a miracle happened. The doctor told us was I cancer-free. I wouldn’t have to go through all the pain anymore. I would have to eat medicine I hated and get an examination. I knew my sister was something special. At that time, I knew she was the reason to how I got cured. Even now, I know that Dahye was the miracle. She was the one to help me escape death. Because there’s Dahye, I’m able to live until today.”

“Wow,” Luhan let out a breath of relief, “Are you serious? You had cancer?”

Kris chuckled, “That’s not the point of why I told you. The point is, you break her, and I’ll break you, best friend or not.”

Luhan laughed and patted his friend’s back, “Like I said, don’t worry. I promise I’ll take good care of her. You know me, I always do. Sometimes even better than you.”

And it was the truth. There were times in the past where Luhan had to act the older brother, but that was because Kris could be such a jerk at times.

Even so, Kris knew that leaving Dahye in Luhan’s care was the right choice he made. He knew Luhan, and if he ever had to choose a groom for his sister, he wouldn’t hesitate to choose Luhan.

Kris loved Dahye and would only want her happiness, and he knew Luhan could give her happiness. Kris trusted Luhan with his life. He knew he could trust Luhan with Dahye’s life as well.
